They changed a lot of the pictures on the FTX product page: less urban and less default FSX POI's and more rural, Things are looking good. JV also said the are 'a week or so' from release: sounds good too!

Sorry buddy but no more Orbx DVD's as far as I know. It will be download only!

######, then I probably can´t get it. I´ve got a pretty slow 2 Mbit (6 Mbit starting from middle August) connection so this would take days to download...

Best regards, Steffen

Orbx products won't be released on dvd anymore but in the Flight Sim Store you can always (afaik) choose between Instant Download or Download with DVD rom (Digital Media Service): in that case you get a downloadlink (which you obviously won't use) but they will also send you a simple dvd with the software burned on it for 8 AUD (plus additional shipping costs maybe, I don't know). So the fact that FTXG won't be released officially in a boxed version doesn't mean you won't be able to get a hold on it if you have no or a bad internet connection! You aren't the only one out there who doesn't have a internet connection that can download a few GB's!

If you are lucky you might know someone who lives near you and who has a better internet connection so you can use their PC for the download...? If I knew for sure someone I knew had bought FTXG (proving it with receipts and perhaps a confirmation from FSS) I wouldn't mind helping along and burning the download on a dvd. That would save shipping costs and time. ;)

@Superpilotv2: Use a downloadmanager, this one is good:

Even with 2Mb speed, you should be able to get it, bit by bit, chunk by chunk.

At least FTX Global is apparently finally going to bring Southeast Asia correct textures and landclass, something that GEX + Custom Landclass addons never managed to do. That alone gives me a reason to buy it, Thailand looks just horrible right now no matter what addon combinations I've tried.

Bought one of their product back in 2008. ( Orbx - FTX: AU Blue ).  The scenery did look nice but the traffic, such as the cars, they were all over the place, they were even going through the building.  Had to remove it from my system.  Now this new package is coming out soon, is it going to have the same problem?  I haven't seen any of your video showing flying around the city with all the cars moving around.

Ah, this is disappointing to hear. The DVD is, for one thing, an instant backup device. And even using a download manager, this is going to be an all-day affair.'

Sigh. I guess my fondness for tangible things (several thousand CD and hundreds of books in my library) is falling to the digital hordes...   :(

This product contains no traffic.

Traffic is contained to vector data roads which lay over the ground textures. Whatever your FSX default traffic is already producing on real rendered roads (usually highways or major streets, not textured roads like city blocks or neighborhood streets) will be seen. Products like this (FTX Global, GEX) don't affect car traffic. UTX does because it adds and renders more roads from vector data.

Road traffic isn't generated by the placement of vector road data. Road traffic is created by adding a line vector and tagging it with the Freeway Traffic tag. This way you can create traffic over photoreal roads.

However it's technically generated, it's mostly confined to vector roads in default FSX which lay over the ground textures, default or replacement. GEX and FTXG don't mess with that traffic. That answers his question about it being a problem or not.

I guess this is just one thing of preference. I just love downloads because I don't have to fill my already crowded shelf with another CD/DVD rubbish. In digital form they consume a lot less physical space, which is absolutely nice. I have a home server with mirrored HD's and all my downloads I want are there, always available in my network, if not 100% safe, at least 99% (in case I lose two mirrored HDs at the same time, I lose the data).

I also love my Kindle as it has decreased tremendously by book purchases which fill a pretty large bookshelf already. I still like to some of them in the old analogue form, it depends on the book.

I'd probably buy my games and other computer software more in physical form, if those CD/DVD versions would be the same they were in the first half of the 90's and earlier: you got full manuals in beautifully printed form, maps and other necessary stuff. Now DVD versions are just the same as downloads with some rubbish installation guide at best on paper added with some advertisiments: everything else is on PDF for you to print if you want it on paper. Also PC game box art was at best just beautiful on those large cardboard boxes of the old days. Nowadays DVD boxes are just unimaginative and dull.

Do we know anything about performance impact?
