Happened to me twice now that FSGRW becomes unresponsive en freezes FSX. Happened with the #12 and now with the #14. My mouse pointer stays active moving away from fsx to the taskbar or to the second monitor. Didn't happen with previous versions. Gonna do a few flights with Opusfsx to be sure that FSGRW is the culprit.

I've had some problems since build 12, albeit in FS9. Seems I now get some stutters when it downloads, something I've never seen before with this system, or with ASE. Until now I never, ever saw below the locked 30 FPS.

I let my fsx.cfg rebuild and this time, I could fly the same flight without a lock up.

I have a nagging problem related to my weather engine and need some help and you guys know what you are talking about.

 

I use REX and watch my ai flying from one place to another using STB. If i use REX weather engine then there is a layer where I can't see the ground I am flying over and if I use default weather engine with REX textures then I can see the ground fine which I prefer much more. Does any of these weather engines fix that visibility problem because I will gladly give up REX if the others fix this problem. I know there is probably a correct aviation term for problem this, but I can only explain it the way I see it. Thanks in advance

 

also, has anyone have a problem using fsx default real world weather lately? I have not been able to use it for 2 days which means that someone is telling me that I need a new weather program!

Sounds like you have a visibility layer set in REX, try deleting it ... open REX, Configuration Manager tab, Visibility Tab, Set Global Visibility Layers ... delete any layers you have in the list.

I do prefer FSGRW as a weather engine over REX, neither are perfect.  I often climb to about 4000 ft (I do a lot of mountain biking and have a local mountain I climb) so I have a pretty good idea of real world visibility at that altitude on any given day.  REX does seem to reduce visibility (more haze) more than actual real world compared to FSGRW, FSGRW is closest but still a tad off (just needs to add a little more visibility). 

Thanks, but it didn't work and there are no visibility layers only the slider which always stays the same. No matter how many times I save to the right and save to the left. Maybe the best is just using rex textures and default fsx weather but i cant test it out because i still cant download real weather.

You still should be able to use weather themes or archived.  If you are unable to download then check your firewall settings, I don't recall the exact port REX weather engine uses to communicate to the weather servers ... I think it's in the 9000's (9002, 9003?).

sorry, I mean that I can't download real weather from default. That's another issue that I will soon be posting help soon. I can use REX but with that ugly haze layer it bugs me to no end. Should be something "easy" huh (haha) Thanks

If you want something as easy as the default real weather in FSX but that at the same time will do a much better job the answer is equally easy...FS Global Real Weather.

 

Also the guys at HiFi announced they are working on a new weather engine that might be interesting once it's released.

So far I've been very impressed with FSGRW, it's not perfect, but I like the way it does weather fronts.  But I did notice something strange and I'm assuming FSGRW is doing this but I get flattened clouds?

 

 

I also don't get wind data sometimes (flight from KIAD to KJFK) I had no winds at all.

 

This is running in Standard Mode with Static Weather Download.

OPUS needs to correct the windshift problem, instead of just blaming it on FSX.  After all it is a weather engine!  Sometimes the wind shifts 3 of 4 times severely within 30-40 miles.  Causing a very unstable and not to mention unrealistic flight experience.

I don't see anything strange in your picture, they are just stratus clouds.

After all it is a weather engine!  

 

....that still relies on the internals of a buggy FSX. Don't hold your breath.

Very seldom get wind shifts. Maybe you have not set it up correctly, or your system is not up to it.
