For a long time I thought that you have some good knowledge, and you do (I guess), but your word doesnt mean s**t to me anymore and I wont use any of your guides and products anymore, just because you act like a kid and gone completely nuts. What's pathetic is that you would bash someone on a public forum that you obviously don't personally know .  This is getting to be like the mob mentality of an old US western  where somebody says "boys get a rope, we'll give him a fair trial then hang' em !"

Who is right or wrong? 

 

Nick or John, or both, or neither? Which is which? So far I am having a difficult time finding who might be right from who is wrong...not as to which side they are on, but why and how they ridicule others.

 

I can't believe how many people I have respected for a long time are having fun insulting Nick N. or John V., when both of these leaders stand head and shoulders above anyone and everyone else taking the cheap shots.

I am surprised and disappointed with some of you. No, I am not going to shut the thread down. Maybe someone else will., but I won't. However let me warn you. You are laying possible charges of forum abuse against yourselves.

 

Laugh at me or carry on the poison if you like, but be careful. Whether you earn a long rest might depend upon what is written already, and/or the clever point you want to make next.

I agree with this almost totally    JV has traditionally been the punching bag on this particular forum,  sometimes brought on by himself, sometimes not.  This episode though, has me disappointed in Nick.  No matter what Nick says at this stage, and no matter how little I find his advice personally helpful to me,  there should be no denying that without Nick Needham this hobby would be worse off.  he's helped a lot of people,  he's developed what was until two weeks ago the premier texture product in FSX, and still is the premier texture product in FS9.  I bought GE Pro for FS9 and four GEX regions.  I don't regret those purchases, even now, when I am very sure I'll never install them again.  It also should be said that Nick has had a habit of obliquely criticizing other developers repeatedly.  this isn't new.  Also if you read Nick's "bible" you can tell that what ORBX does is anathema to Nick's methods.  Nick wouldn't have made a scenery like ORBX does, simply because it's not in his philosophy to change core files like that.  He also doesn't believe scenery eye candy is very important, which is odd for a developer of scenery textures, but no matter.

 

The problem isn't so much one of him trying to help his customers revert to GEX if they want,  that's all well and good.  Slandering a fellow developer, though definitely crosses the line.  comparisons of orbx to tyranny and malware do not put Nick in a good light with me at all.  Especially when in comparison to what we have from the other direction.  JV has his faults and they have been discussed at length in this forum in particular.  he will tell you off bluntly if you criticize him, he will ban you from a forum if you're being a pain in the a$$,  he'll lock a thread and delete posts in a jiffy (Nick will too, it seems)  One thing he will not do?  criticize another company's products or methods.  nor will he permit his forum members to do so.

 

In an ideal world, what I would like for Nick to do is use this as motivation to make an even better GEX.  One of the reason's GEX in my opinion is not as good as FTXG is that simply, it did not have to be.  it was light years better than default or FScene, and that was the whole of the market.  It seems, though that he's made several hints that he's retiring.  if so, that's OK; but he is definitely struggling to find the door marked "graceful exit"  I think it would be a wonderful thing if this sorry little episode was not the last thing we hear from NickN.
