I have a guilty pleasure, usually when drinking: taking the SR71 for low level speed runs. It may be ridiculous but it's silky smooth and great fun. The cockpit is also one of the best in XP.

That's a great idea, I'll have to try that (with the drinking and all  ).

I too am in an FSX phase this month.

After a fair few recent updates the X-Plane world seems to have gone rather quiet, I was hoping that core development would be moving on at a faster pace and we would be hearing exciting news about future updates.

I got that feeling recently. A few months ago it seemed like barely a day went by until there was a new product or important update to an old one but recently, nothing.

I guess the next one will be Alpilotx's HD mesh v2.

XP10 with shipping costs around $100, I sure hope Austin is hard at work if he wants to sell more copies

I was specifically thinking of LR. We still don't have any true idea of where XP10 is going, and what will be improved/fixed. Some sort of a development road map from LR would be great! The initial momentum of the "FSX killer" that was supposed to be XP10 seems (and I stress "seems") to have run out and Austin apparently lost his way getting bogged down with other things. I guess he thought customers would come flocking naturally as FSX reached End of Life which just hasn't happened, as the latter is still very much alive thanks to Orbx and other innovative developers such as PMDG, Majestic etc. So LR will have to get a few more people on board and kick a$$ if they want more of the leisure market!

Nice shot from P3D there. Interesting, it's the first time I see this ELITE sim you speak of. Obviously not much of a looker so it probably does some other stuff quite well since you're into it.

About developments in XPX; when does that WED contest conclude? I'm really curious what feature the winner will pick.

It's pretty awesome to own and use both sims

Yeah if you're really into flight simming owning both is really the only option as they still excel in slightly different areas. Owning all three actually (DCS) if you like military stuff too. Nobody said it was going to be cheap...

I do miss the autogen buildings in FSX. Not the lights though, papi's and runway lights are th size of beachballs...

There are fixes for those, I simply didn't install any this turn around. I am using plain vanilla P3D scenery hugely enhanced by ORBX FTX Global!

Jcomm I love the 3rd one, almost feel I'm there.

Believe me, ELITE is not the looks ( basic but effective for IFR / IMC and even VFR training regarding roads and water courses ), but superb in exact aircraft performance and systems modelling.

A pitty the B200 requires their TQ to be properly operated ( we can always use the keyborad, but... ) because it's engine modeling is the best I've ever seen of a PT-6....

With my new EUR1 scenery I believe I will spend even more time in ELITE, planning my flights and examining my procedures, using their simplistic but rather effective and precise (in as far as, for instance, visibility goes..) real world weather downloads.

In P3D I am really enjoying FSG-RW - a very nice weather injector, simple, light, effective ( probably much more in some aspects than any other I have used... ). Also FSG-RW plans future support for X-Plane 10, and their team is rather dynamic and perfectionist in trying to get everything done as perfect as possible!

P3D wins this round :good:  FTX Global is beautiful.  BUT XP10 still wins in Nigh OPS :P

I wonder what's going on in the XP world. Over the last months there was at least one enthusiastic post every day about XPX. XP has slowed down in progress and I can see very honorable members of this board flying "different things". Is XPX on the usual road or is it just the summer time?

it's the summer, even last year around this time it was quite.  10.23beta will arrive soon :Worried:  :Praying:

DCS Batumi looks best imo, XPX is really weak in that area.

Can you make more comparison images of DCS area? Sochi, Tbilisi...

DCS World is free to download (and use) and comes with the SU-25 ... just a thought if you want to see more of it ...

DCS has a lot of potential but it's actually the clouds and weather where it fails to compare (imo). If they could model some civilian aircraft and widen the world a bit it could give civie sims a run for their money. While flying the A-10C in DCS is an awesome experience, the 'fighting' part of the equation has no appeal to me at all. But I'd love to fly transport and/or supply .. as long as it's not choppers ;).

Yes I will!  You gave me a very good idea!

But DCS beats hands-down xpx and even p3d with default scenery ( that ftx thing works miracles in p3d though... ). The level of detail of the aerodromes is huge! I also really like the way they ( DCS World ) render the sky, clouds, weather effects. Looking fw for their new scenery engine which will bring, probably before p3d v2, the real taste of dx11 :-)

Also DCS IS 64 bit, not that I think this should be a factor - after all I am on a p3d phase right now, and ftx global, as well as fwgrw ( the new kid in town in terms of weather syntheis ) are making it difficult for me to start xpx.

I am having a great time flying around my usual places, but also crowded cities all around the World, with what we would call insane building / objects density using typical xpx phraseology, greatly rendered skies, with my fps way above what I get in xpx where the OSM-based scenery starts pushing too much for my not so good i5-based rig!  It's fluid as silk, and beautiful, by day and by night!

I like airliners. There is simply no airliner fully simulated, or at least to the level we have in p3d, from the aerosoft axe to the pmdg ngx 737. There are nice tentatives, worth the merit, but that's about all they are...

I should make an exception to Peter's a380, but it can only be used for procedures. mainly takeoff /departure / arrival / approach / landing (more or less the same way I use the MD-80 in ELITE...), although it does have an fms that extends the default xpx fms ( very poor compared to what fsx and p3d offer by default... ). Also, for what is offered, it is very expensive IMO!

As I have once said, 10.30 can be a stone marker in the live of xpx - I hope it is :-/

The thruth is, nothing can yet substitute the extension / coverage / detail / usability of the MSFS platform. I no longer use fsx, but I could. I do find advantages in p3d in terms of stability and smoothness, and I really can't give up using it, and when it comes to a flight under crowded skies, scenery now enhanced by ftx global, aircraft of a quality that pmdg has acostumed us to, there simply is nothing like fsx / p3d -  I have to admit! Even a GA using the default GPS ( GNS430-based ) offers a lot more funtionality than the rather basic instrument that comes with Xpx!

Even the most basic things in ifr flying are more concisely / plausibly modeled in fsx / p3d - things as VOR / DME / TACN range with altitude, using the built in map to place your aircraft and follow your flight beyond the current scenery tile, even the basic, but a lot more useful atc, AI aircraft, specially if created by 3pd products, etc... The whole environment is a lot more involving in fsx / p3d right now than in xpx, and it has been like so for quite a long time, and that's why people can't / shouldn't simply jump from one platform to the other. Xpx is walking in the right direction ( we suppose, because there's really not that much information about what we can expect in future releases...) but it has a long way to walk until it matches the offer fsx / p3d + add-ons already make.

And yes, there is the argument regarding how much you spend in fsx / p3d to get what you like, but the fact is - you get it! Until now my only good investment in xpx were my x-aviation aircraft and the two carenados ( a surprise given I never had bought a carenado for fsx... ), and some other add-ons were very expensive, compared to similar price tags of excellent add-ons for fsx / p3d, while not being comparable to the level of detail, quality, sophistication of their fsx/p3d counterparts!
