If you had $3000 for your flight sim ...

Featured Replies

A magic fairy just dropped $3000 cash in your lap, but said you could only spend the money on your flight simulator.  What would you get? (This includes computer components)

I made my list:

Flight Deck Solutions CDU - 1000

ASUS GTX 780 GPU- 670

GoFlight Throttle Quad - 560

VRInsight Boeing EFIS/MCP/Com - 327

Crossfire Rudder Pedals - 260

FSDT Sceneries I don't have:

KJFKv2,KLAX,KDFW,KLAS,PHNL,KORD - 183

Yeah, baby

Some liquid nitrogen so I could hyper-cool my CPU.

That or new hardware. Cause no one can have enough hardware!

I have EVERYTHING already.  The only things left to get are the Concorde X, Flight1 B200, and Milviz 732, and FTXG.  For now I'm not sold on all four for different reasons so I'm waiting.  The Concorde may be too intense for my 3.4 ghz.  The Flight1 B200 may not be so much better than the Carenado to justify $60.00.  The milviz 732...well I have the NGX and CS 737 and don't fly them enough to justify another 737 but I want to be convinced.  As for FTXG I'm still not convinced of how great it is over GEX etc.

Hello

Don’t need new hardware and I already have most of what I want and certainly have more of what I need.

Nowadays I am mostly a GA/Bush flyer but also do some hops in a business jet.

So if I had to spend that money and if available I would buy top quality NE USA, Eastern Canadian, Caribbean and European sceneries that focused in rural, small and midsized airfields.  (Not interested in endless summer photo-scenery).

Cheers.

Ramón.
Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

I would add another 2G's and go for a phase change cooled Haswell / Titan rig with all the trimmings :)

I am actually close to decide, I am promised a steady 5,4 Ghz w/o HT, -40C on the block and 60C the CPU from the builder. No cure - No pay. They are mocking it up now, and will go through a batch of Haswells to find the golden one ;)

Whatch out for another build thread when I get around to it, just got the preliminary component list yesterday afternoon.

$3000?

Hmm... I'm happy enough with my pc, and I already budget (sort of) for the planes and scenery I want, soooo...

I saw very recently a person parting out an extremely rough looking 172; maybe scrounge up as much of the cockpit as I could, order up some Bodnar boards, and start wiring.

Actually, there's almost always controls & hardware I'd want.  I fear $3000 wouldn't actually go that far. A good yoke, maybe some standalone radios - and then maybe a nice cyclic and collective. Nope wouldn't go far at all. ^_^

I think I'd get a new monitor and better suited desk for FS, then the rest on airports and AES credits.

Ró, if you have the chance, grab a Dell Ultrasharp U3011 30", it is awesome, it transformed the experience for me when I swapped my 24" :)

Cheers,

I only have a 19" monitor right now from abut 2008/9, so anything would be an improvement...

Thanks for the recommendation though, replacing my monitor is the next thing to do on my todo list but I don't have much experience with them compared with things like chips and graphics cards...

If your room is big enough why not treat yourself to a nice big 50 inch TV?! I have a nice 27inch monitor, but it seems too small at times  ^_^

If you have a good GPU you can run the U3011's native resolution, which in FSX terms will be 2560x1600x32, the NGX VC look awesome, actually, coming home from a MD-11 level d session at Lufthansas training center, the glareshield and instruments felt to be in their correct position and size. My eyes are about 60 cm from the screen.

I'd need a new desk before I could get something that big, also seeing as both the TVs in my house are CRT displays, I don't think the best TV in the house would be allowed to be used with FSX for some reason...  The playroom where the PC is though is pretty small anyways, so I don't think that'll be manageable unless I move it to another room, but I'll see, I can put that down for a long term project...

I have a GTX570, which I'm guessing is good enough at the minute, was top of the range 2 years ago, so can't have gone down that much since.

Level D MD11 sounds fun...

You're still using CRT TV's? I think its about time you treated yourself ! Going from an old CRT to a lovely crisp, thin and clear smart TV will be an awesome experience. Get yourself on down to PCWorld
