A hidden FTX Global phenomenon

Featured Replies

So today, I tried something with FTX global in FSX that I haven't done for 7 years. I did a flight with autogen on EXTREMELY DENSE.

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT! Yes, EXtremely Dense!!

Usually before If I even mentioned this word, by FSX would OOM! I couldn't believe my eyes...

Not only that, but I did a flight with:

The PMDG 737NGX, at FSDT CYVR, with ORBX PNW, and Cloudy rainy weather. No OOM! AND in DX9!!!

I am soo stunned. Try this out you guys, serously.

I am so glad I bought this addon!!! Best addon ever.

Incredible. That is all.

Ya man,
FTXG is some badass stuff. I bought KMIA and KIAD this past weekend and tonight did a flight between the two and it was awesome. Since you fly the NGX try this flight planning tool out, you'll love it, I used it tonight for the first time and it is awesome, I'm never using FSBuild ever again.   It's called simbrief and its free, you just have to register with them and if you want a current AIRAC you have to purchase the access code from Navigraph.

I don't think it's FTXG that is saving you from OOM. It only replaces default textures with same size other textures (but much more beautiful).

So maybe on a longer flight you will suffer memory shortage again unfortunately.

Every post where people said they had an OOM the Orbx guys told them it couldn't be FTXG, because it only replaces default textures. So I doubt it is Global, unless you deactivated some add-on scenery now you have Global installed. And that isn't all too weird, because at some places Global + landclass add-on is nicer than some of my add-on scenery.

Yea they replaced those too, so are you implying that the new autogen textures cost less memory to be able to make the difference between OOM or not?

I doubt it, but I honestly don't know.

Yup with FTXG I am running everything almost maxed out. Autogen is maxed and I'm gettinf a smooth 30 FPS. It's amazing. Can't wait for the updated 1.1 patch that will further improve the night lighting.

it may be true, there is a confirmed better performance and no stutters with FTXG

If you were using Orbx PNW, that would have taken priority over FTX Global textures anyway.

As I've said, I'm not talking about ground textures i'm talking about textures with the autogen, the textures in autogen ORbx PNW are not any different than FTX global textures, and were the same textures as default autogen, pre-FTX global.

Orbx PNW would actually have more chance of an OOM, due to custom ground textures, and even more autogen than normal.

Its sorta funny I have had no problems with FSX crashing or having OOMs until I got FTXGlobal. Its always been maxed out performing perfectly with all my other scenery addons...

My 2 cents worth since i dont have FTXG and cant check myself is check your VAS. Check the VAS with it enabled and disabled to confirm your findings. Just a suggestion.

I doubt it, but I honestly don't know.

Orbx uses more efficient draw calls for the autogen and texture loading.

Before FTXG I would have cities not loading autogen in heavy load situations. Now I have no issues at extremely dense. Autogen keeps up much better.

Whether this affects OOM specifically, I don't know. But it's a perk visually.

Where'd you get the info on the 1.1 patch?

It's interesting how individual these results are.  I'm truly enjoying FTXG but I've had to reduce my autogen from Very Dense to Dense - was getting slow texture loads at the higher setting.  Have had one OOM at the lower setting (had none before FTXG), though I can't say that FTXG was to blame - I suspect other programs, but I need to do some testing to see what's what.  Overall, for me at this point, FTXG is demanding, but worth it.  And the autogen at Dense is just as satisfying as the default autogen at the higher setting, so I don't feel like I"m missing anything.  Just reporting on my personal experience for whatever it's worth.
