August 21, 201312 yr So, I just installed FS9 and the update 9.1 My system is Q6600 clocked at 3.4 GHZ with 4gb of RAM and a 8800GT 512MB. I have used nvidia inspector to set the AA etc..... Will this run everything ok? My questions are:- 1.) Whats the best way to start installing addons? 2.) I need weather program, ground class, traffic, a 737 aircraft, and a small GA aircraft (the two best please?) 3.) Anything else I'm missing? I remember years ago I used to have loads of programs running! Cheers Ian

August 21, 201312 yr Since your starting with a new install can I ask why you are not moving to FSX? It seems that version FSX is the future and most new products are only made for FSX. It could save you a lot of time and money just to start with FSX. Of course, if you prefer FS9 that's great and I respect that. I just think it makes a lot more sense to start with FSX and build on it's strong future. I'm just trying to be helpful, not to bash FS9.
August 21, 201312 yr Author Thank so far! I was away learning to fly, working, travelling.... I am not loading fsx as my system isn't good enough for it. I plan on using xplane 10 in the next 6-7 months, but in the meantime I think I can still get enjoyment out of fs9 with the right addons, hence the call for help. I need fs9 looking as good as is possible, I believe my system can handle it?

I need fs9 looking as good as is possible, I believe my system can handle it? I have the exact same CPU and it runs my FSX without a hitch. Only suggestion I can make is another stick of RAM and a better video card and should run FSX okay, if not at blistering pace, but as I average 22-26FPS, no complaints from me. Although I have 2 rigs with a SandyBridge-based i5-2500K and a Haswell-based system in the wings to be built when I can snap out of lethargy, for the time being, the Q6600-based rig does me. So, give it a go and enjoy all the benefits of FSX. Rick Almeida
August 21, 201312 yr Author I remember trying fsx on it years ago when it came out. I didn't like it much, it was no good for heavies flying?
August 21, 201312 yr Commercial Member http://forums.flightsimlabs.com/index.php?/topic/2493-fslabs-texture-fix-utility-v11/ FSX should run fine with your system, on my specs I run it maxed with heavy weather and all the high end scenery packages, however I dont use AI except for vatsim aircraft. part of me wants to say stick with FS9 since you plan to move to x-plane, you will start seeing FSX packages like FTX global, PMDG NGX etc and your credit card will start smoking... August 21, 201312 yr Author Well now I'm super confused. Fs9 or fsx?! I really don't know what to do now. I just remember fsx on my system being very stuttery! What's changed?!
August 21, 201312 yr Your system will run beautifully with FS9.5 (the thing you get when you spend a bit of time on FS9.1) 1.) Whats the best way to start installing addons? Aircraft, take your pick there are 100's (and see below) Textures for water/sky/ground (see below) Airport sceneries, take your pick there are 100's Mesh (Depends where you fly as to what you get: various pay/freeware available) 2.) I need weather program, ground class, traffic, a 737 aircraft, and a small GA aircraft (the two best please?) REX or Active Sky Evolution, it's a matter of personal preference really. Ground Environment Pro + Zinertech water World of AI iFly B737 Carenado F33A_BONANZA and Carenado B58 Baron for a twin 3.) Anything else I'm missing? I remember years ago I used to have loads of programs running! Now the fun starts... PS Don't pay attention to the FSX crowd coming in here... there will always be a rejoinder: my sliders are not set for AI, my sliders are not set for weather blah blah blah. Go with your own experience: FS9 can do it all.
August 22, 201312 yr FS9.5 (the thing you get when you spend a bit of time on FS9.1) Do I see 9.5? What that means? Ian, I have already posted this into another same topic. Not too related but will give you a good ground. For GA Carenado and PMDG and iFly for 737. WOAI for AI as already mentioned, and a personal tip, try SweetFX for getting best visuals from your FS9. August 22, 201312 yr Do I see 9.5? What that means?I know it annoys some, but it's what is used to describe the result when you make FS9 look like something much, much better than stock, using some of the addons listed above.Often you can't tell an FSX screenshot from FS9.5.
August 22, 201312 yr Moderators. Any chance of a sticky? It seems many members are either unable of unwilling to SEARCH in this very mature thread for information on How to Install, what are the BEST addons, WHERE are the etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum Now the regulars have to date been polite, welcoming and helpful whilst endlessly repeating similar advice. This however, is wearing thin with me. If people are unwilling to put brain in gear or even make an effort why should we waste our sim time spoonfeeding them? Instant gratifcation does have its limits. I know I'm a grumpy old so and so but ... Seems to me a sticky (or multiple stickies) covering the info typically sought would be of major benefit to all members. What say you?
