A2A Accu-Sim Cessna 172 may be out "within the week"

Featured Replies

Let me be clear that I have nothing against GPS's but in FSX I recently started to fly only with VOR and NDB simply because it keeps me entertained! I like to plot a flight and then fly it while keeping my eyes on all the relevent gauges all the time. Everytime I find my destination it gives me a satisfied feeling. Funny thing is that I used to do flights that were 40 to 80 nm with GPS but with VOR and NDB's my flight are getting longer and longer (around 150 nm) because it's so much fun staying on course for a longer period! The further away the destination is, the more fun it is and the more rewarding, specially when it has no VOR or NDB on site.

I would nevertheless had been disappointed if this new 172 or any new addon plane had come without a GPS (unless it's a very old plane, obviously) and I certainly wouldn't DREAM of ever flying in real life without GPS. Not that I ever fly in real iife but I am certain I wouldn't want to fly without a GPS (unless I was only flying circles around an airport!).

So my statement was just about my current personal preference when it comes to flying in FSX! Nothing more. Anyway, because of this I like it that apparently the GPS can be removed completely from this version. In the Legacy (the only plane I fly right now) I simply leave the GPS turned off but I always thought it would have been nice if I could completely remove it.

Thought so Jeroen, but i assume my wording has been a bit misunderstandable - English is not my mother tongue.

If any misunderstanding has occured, then i fully apologize.

Cheers, Christoph

And just to be clear (for Wolke85), this A2A 172 is coming with a GPS.... .... the guys are just talking about an option not to have the GPS in the panel.

Totally aware of it!

My fault, have to choose my words more specific next time.

I apologize for any confusion i may have caused.

Cheers, Christoph

Other than that thoigh: Looking very much forward to this sure great plane - and PMDG's 777 too - ... i want to fly them all!

... just need enough time ... but that's another story, which i assume many of us just know to well!

Cheers, Christoph

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

I bet this will end up being A2A's best selling plane.  I know some find the 172 boring but many simmers were waiting for a DETAILED c172 or other trainer type aircraft.

Hey guys,

you will have many panel config options including no GPS, GPS, GPS, RXP GPS and RXP GPS

thanks,

Lewis

I'm wondering why so many people are referring to '90kts' when talking about the 172.   The 172R that I flew in had a cruise of 115kts at a sensible power setting in cruise.     It seems this poor old 172 has been relegated to the performance of a 150 or 152 in some people's minds!

If you are flying at sea level on a cold crisp morning, with a fresh engine, the 172 will perform as advertised.  However the 172R did first appear in the late 90s.  Those late 90s 172R airframes are pushing 15years old, and then if you factor in flight school abuse....they will be like old airplanes :)

If you are in a typical beat up flight school 172 with a worn engine.  If you are flying from higher altitudes, especially in the summer, you will typically see 90-100KIAS

Wonder if the airplane can be pre-aged or if it always starts out brand new?

I hope it ages, like the Katana 4x.  You even have to vacuum the carpet to keep it clean!  Look forward to this more the T7!

No, that's not what I meant.  Since the discussion went towards old beat up school planes, I was wondering if there was an option to start off the airframe or engine with x amount of hours or wear and tear, instead of getting something straight off the showroom floor.  I've seen similar wishes for the NGX too, because many people simply don't have time to fly a plane for hundreds of hours in order to get something to wear out.  Seems like it might be a desireable option for some.

Indeed.  And it goes beyond just having a tired engine.  Rigging may be slightly off, gaps a bit wider, different pitch prop installed (remember these are fixed pitch props on these planes) and so on.  The flight school I trained at had a small fleet of them (as well as a host of 152s), and we all learned which ones to try to sign out pretty quickly.

Install those optional flap-gap seals mentioned in the video.  They'll help as well! :-)

Don't ask where, but I read that there will be a 'used' option.

Yes we have a random 'used' button. Push that button once and you will get a random generated wear and tear through the accu-sim system on all systems modelled. In some of the PR screenshots you can see the engine hours at 3400 hours and above from using this for example.

Cool

O, no problem at all, no need to apologize. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew what I meant when I said what I said. ^_^

Er... help me here. You mentioned GPS twice and also RXP GPS...? So far I see there are three panel config options, is that correct?

Cool

VERY cool! But of course the wear and tear is only related to the systems: the VC will still look very clean.

Great, I'm gonna buy a lemon and see how she runs!

All I am asking for is an option to remove the GPS. If I were a CFI these days I would remove the GPS fuse from the fuse panel and disable the GPS for my students.

Strongly disagree. The pilot should be familiar with all tools available to him/her, including GPS. It's like any other technology. If you rely on it fully you'll be in trouble. If you use it as a supplemental tool you'll be a better pilot for it.

Well that was the position of ERAU too, they wouldn't let student pilots use the GPS until after they earned their PPL.  The learning of basic fundamental flying and navigational skills is very important.  Those skills must become instinctual for any student pilot.  After the PPL is passed, then the GPS can be introduced as a navigational aid.  I wasn't allowed to use a GPS until my IFR training, and even then it was only used for approaches.  I am glad it was done this way so I learned the basics first.   I wonder if G1000 pilots these days even know how to read a sectional.

Cheers

TJ
