August 29, 201312 yr Particularly Arizona, one is called Oatman. found it interesting, the old route 66. I thought Route 66 was between LA and Las Vegas, but it was decommissioned years ago. Anyone driven around Arizona, California and New Mexico, and seen some of these touristy places? The scenery is amazing! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oatman,_Arizona Signed Daniel PS. This is a non controversial topic and no animals were harmed in the filming of this movie....... :-)
August 29, 201312 yr Daniel you need to take a road trip to this part of the world. Unfortunate I have not yet. My USA journeys include driving from San Diego to Vancouver on the west coast and driving from New York down to Georgia on the east coast so I haven't seen old Route 66 yet. USA is so big I doubt very many actually get a chance at visiting all 50 states in one lifetime. August 29, 201312 yr USA is so big I doubt very many actually get a chance at visiting all 50 states in one lifetime. Not trying to brag or anything here, but I have been to all 50 states. It was a dream of mine since I was little. I finally visited Vermont in July 2006. That was the 50th state for me. I have a pic of the "Welcome to Vermont" sign somewhere. Again, not trying to brag but it is something I am very proud of saying that I have done. And, yes, there are some very interesting places to visit in that neck of the woods and along route 66 which, I believe goes from Chicago to LA if I remember correctly? August 30, 201312 yr Moderator Anyone driven around Arizona, California and New Mexico, and seen some of these touristy places? I'm from Arizona and don't remember hearing of that one. In the mid to late 90's I used to compete in rodeos mostly in Arizona and New Mexico which led me to a lot of small and out of the way towns, probably the most notable from the "Wild West" days was Tombstone. It's really cool to do to some of these famous old towns and think about the legends of the old west that used to walk the streets. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 30, 201312 yr Not trying to brag or anything here, but I have been to all 50 states. I wouldn't call that bragging, I would call that a very good tick on the bucket list. I have been to 20 states so far, Hawaii is on that list so I need Alaska as well. After that it just takes a few more road trips to see the rest of it. It is planned! From seeing massive freight trains and some glorious stuff like Mojave and Grand Canyon I am sure there are dozens of these Wild West towns. As well as Monument Valley. Now that is a drive! Just need to find a Diesel car I can enjoy. Anyway there is nothing like a self drive holiday! Old Route 66 as seen in Springfield, Illinois, taken exactly five years ago. Been to 46 states so far. Wow Captain Kevin, even a photo to prove it!!!! I have been to Illinois. Regards Daniel Go here. http://ghosttowns.com/ Have fun. Ralph I went to a 'ghost town' in QLD last year. Gold Rush of the 1890s you know blah blah...... Mt Britton town site in picturesque Homevale National Park in QLD. Probably not as lively as the one in Oatstone and no pavement either! Signed Regards, Daniel
August 30, 201312 yr Go here. http://ghosttowns.com/ Have fun. Ralph Go here. http://ghosttowns.com/ Have fun. Ralph That's cool. When I was at ERAU in Prescott, I went up and over the mountain to Jerome, which is on the side of a 7,000 foot mountain. It's actually an artist community now. Looking at NJ my home state, I'm near Long Pond Ironworks and they have some tour guides there once in a while. Asbury Park is slowing raising parts of it. The boardwalk is in great shape and has quite a few restaurants (some are getting expensive). It gets flooded with beachgoers in the Summer. I'm surprised they don't mention two towns (one is Monksville http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monksville,_New_Jersey) under reservoirs in northern NJ. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
August 30, 201312 yr As a child, my family drove to Texas every summer. We took 66 to Albuquerque. Then the drive really started. Arizona was very interesting. New Mexico has some interesting volcanic sights in the southern part.
August 30, 201312 yr When someone mention ghost town I always think about this Lj. Prodanovic
August 30, 201312 yr I have been to all states except the one out in the ocean. My favorite are the ones in the Rocky's. They are the closet to us and they are beautiful. Colorado is the easiest to get to and one of the prettiest. There are a lot of ghost towns and don't forget your gold pan. You can still find a few flakes now and then. California is great also, but a little far for the drive.
August 30, 201312 yr Come to think of it there is a modern ghost town (city actually) in Turkish Cyprus. It's easy to find on google, very interesting too. Regards Daniel
