October 12, 201312 yr Just upgraded from GTX 580 to GTX 780. Both tested with same cfg settings ( using Word Not Allowed's tweaks ) and same in-game graphics settings with every slider maxed out except for water. Running at stock Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3.2 Ghz with Hyperthreading on. ( Affinity Mask 84 ) Scenery - Flytampa Dubai Rebooted 2.0 Aircraft - PMDG 777-200LRF View - Inside 3d cockpit > 0.80 Zoom > Wide view Frame rates- GTX 580 - 20 ( With mouse cursor on the screen ) GTX 780 - 27 ( With mouse cursor on the screen ) Money well spent ! October 14, 201312 yr What do you mean by "the ouse on the screen?" Does it makes any difference in performance if the cursor shows or not on the screen ?
October 17, 201312 yr What do you mean by "the ouse on the screen?" Does it makes any difference in performance if the cursor shows or not on the screen ? Yes, a well known quirk of FSX. Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
October 19, 201312 yr I have a 580 with a 2700k OC'd and am wondering now if I should upgrade. Hmmm....
October 19, 201312 yr Noit sure how doing a flight and comparing is a real test? WAY too many variables to consider.
October 19, 201312 yr i have changed my graphic card to 760 OC and haven't so spectacular result. Hard to believe to gain 7 fps ..., but - every computer is different so... Artur
October 20, 201312 yr I have a GTX 580, its being put aside for another rig for my son.I have an EVGA 770 SC 4 gb arriving tomorrow. Will be interesting if I gain anything or not.I believe it's about 30% in games so I'm guessing about 10% in the sim. Maybe higher AA. If nothing, no big deal as I needed the new card anyway.
October 20, 201312 yr Running at stock Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3.2 Ghz with Hyperthreading on. ( Affinity Mask 84 ) Off topic maybe but Affinity Mask=84 is for a quad core CPU with HT on. For a Hex core CPU if using an Affinity Mask setting in the cfg you want to be running AF=62 for HT off or 1364 with it on. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
October 20, 201312 yr Hi Martin, that will be a great comparison if all you're doing is swapping the cards. Looking forward to hearing how it works out...
October 20, 201312 yr And what I have noticed, while testing my old card, is a huge increase in frame rate set to unlimited. I was aware of this phenomenon of course, but I wasn't expecting a 35% increase in frame rate set to unlimited. No stutters either, which I've noticed before with my system, even banking the PMDG T7 in dodgy weather at low altitude. Frame rates at various AA settings [frame rate locked at 60] seem more or less the same, regardless of AA settings. VC 35 outside 49. [NGX 3 frames less. Will test at unlimited tomorrow, but as I say, looks like 35% higher frame rate at unlimited. Battlefield 3 was 47-65, most of the time at 65 FPS. Im looking forward to testing the new card when it comes tomorrow
October 20, 201312 yr Author Hard to believe--anyone else experienced this? Mike You don't have to believe it. It's just my personal experience. FSX works differently on every system. It just so seems that FSX is performing marvelously on my system now with the new 780. I have also heard some people say that they didn't get a single FPS gain moving from 460 to 760. Off topic maybe but Affinity Mask=84 is for a quad core CPU with HT on. For a Hex core CPU if using an Affinity Mask setting in the cfg you want to be running AF=62 for HT off or 1364 with it on. Thanks i'll try 1364 ! Baber My Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/HDOnlive
October 21, 201312 yr Okay chaps, this is what I see... Scenario is PMDG 737, at EGLL runway 27L. Weather is FSX grey and rainy. Frame rate is set to unlimited. I'm using BP=0, AF=14 and of course HIGHMEMFIX. I should mention, with frame rate unlimited, some scenarios result in artefacts when panning in an outside view, due to the massive amount of data the GTX 580 has to deal with as a result of BP=0. GTX 580 8XS Combined 2 x SGSS VC 45 8XS Combined 4 x SGSS VC 41 artefacts outside view, when panning. 8XSQ Combined VC 45 8XSQ Combined 2 x SGSS VC 44 8XSQ Combined 4 x SGSS VC 42 artefacts outside view when panning. BF3 Strike at Karkland. 47-78, mostly 65. New EVGA GTX 770. 4 GB Duel BIOS. 8XS Combined VC 45 8XS Combined 2 x SGSS VC 47 8XS Combined 4 x SGSS VC 45 No artefacts with the GTX 770. Due to the 4 GB memory perhaps. 8XSQ Combined VC 46 8XSQ Combined 2 x SGSS VC 45 8XSQ Combined 4 x SGSS VC 46 artefacts outside view when panning. BF3 Strike at Karkland. 96-120 Mostly 105. So... 3 or 4% increase in performance without SGSS. And 10% increase in performance with SGSS. BF3 an astonishing 90% increase in performance!
