November 20, 201312 yr I have a GTX260 1.7 Mb video card. Best I can tell it will not run DX11. So that automatically counts me out because my card will not run P3D v2 according to the specs. Darn shame, but I'm not buying a new card nor upgrading my computer at this time. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
November 20, 201312 yr I've got one of those as well. But ASUS GeForce GT 630 Silent 2GB $69 AU is DX11 and will get me going. I might even cough up $100 for a better one.
November 20, 201312 yr http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130902 $99 for a 2GB DX11 compat card not bad EVGA makes great cards I have their 660TI FTW and had a 560ti from them before it and haven't ever had an issue I'd feel fine buying a refurb card from them as it has a 1 year warranty ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. November 20, 201312 yr Author Hi David, gees I clicked on you link and Google took me to the Newegg Canada site from whatever you had posted. Gees I hate that. I don't know how to clear that cache so I can see what you were identifying. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3

November 20, 201312 yr Author LOL...now I feel really bad..."a very old card"...gees, a three year old computer and it's now antiquated. The card works super with my FSX, and I get great 3D performance with my Samsung monitor. I have found that if I use the most recent updated drivers I get some scenery tearing and spikes so have rolled back to earlier drivers and everything is tickety boo. I just hate the thought of upgrading just the video card. Davids recommendation above is for a GTX 650 2GB 128bit card ...looks nice for $100. But one thing leads to another, the best thing for me should most likely be a new PC all around to last the next three years. Don't have the finances for this yet, too bad. So I guess I'll just watch from the sidelines and cheer on those who are lucky enough to get this new version of P3D. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
November 20, 201312 yr That's a VERY old card isn't it? It was pretty good at the time. Interestingly, they require more power than the newer GTX600's. Was a bit of a shock when I looked it up. Originally I thought 400 - 450 watts for a video card, that's rediculous. Then I looked up the specs of the one I had. H'mm, I can run that new 450 watt video card, no worries.
November 20, 201312 yr I feel for you, but it's always been the same I'm afraid. If you want the newest software then you need the newest hardware to run it. Let's hope it's not too long before you can upgrade. Blackrat
November 20, 201312 yr Ye its very weird tbh, No other game is "DX11 only" ... you will just lose some effects like tesselation if you have a non dx-11 card. A hard requirement for DX hasn't been around since the dx8.0 T&L lightning if I remember correctly...but at lease that was something significant. John doe
November 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member Technically, P3D is not a game. But seriously, if you can focus on single DX version instead of providing support for older ones, this means you can remove much of the legacy code and also build some core functions around latest DX features, rather than just add a few meaningless features on top of existing code. November 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member I just hate the thought of upgrading just the video card. Well, to be honest your system as a whole is just fine... if you upgrade your video card your system will be decent for another 5yrs or so. Your thoughts regarding entire system replacement are a bit overboard, in my opinion. I really don't think you need that. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69

There are PC games that do require DX11, such as F1 2013, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Crysis 3, Watch Dogs, And DX11 exclusive games are going to become much more common as the newer games are released (blame it on XBox One). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
November 20, 201312 yr Prepare3D V2.0 is a new release which requires both Windows 7 (or better) and DirectX 11. Why constrain it by using yesterday's technology? Gerry Howard

A hard requirement for DX hasn't been around since the dx8.0 T&L lightning if I remember correctly...but at lease that was something significant. i don't think it's really that weird... if you think about it... dx9 has been around since 2002. dx10 was first released in 2006, that's 7 years ago, which is an eternity in computer years. we're talking like a year before iphones were around and the ps2 was still king. if this was a mass market game i could see wanting to maintain compatibility, but the whole point of it is to use a modern engine so that would kind of defeat that purpose.. tessellation perfectly lends itself to the kind of terrain engine that would be used in a sim like this! it may not be quite the jump that T&L was but it's a logical requirement when one of the main things it does is draw huge amounts of world geometry. not to mention you can get a dx11 card for half the cost of the license for the sim anyway so it's not really like they are some exotic new tech. dx11 itself has been around for almost 4 years now... cheers -andy crosby
November 20, 201312 yr Bryan, I too will be waiting on the sidelines for awhile. My computer is four years old with a gtx 285 video card. When I saw what the minimum requirements were back in october for p3d versoon 2.0 were I begain planning my new build. So far I have the new case with all the components for water cooling. I will order more parts in december and then the final components in january. The new rig will cost me about $3700.00 so it will be february before I finally get to enjoy versoon 2.0. Even though I could buy a newer card now I'm not sure I would get all the benefits of the new card cause my cpu is an old one. My understanding is that the cpu and gpu are dependent on one another. Anyway by febriary orbx will have vector and open lc for north america and I'm sure developers will work out their installers to be compatible with version two.
