MegaSceneryEarth and X-Plane
It's like building a house really. I could learn all the stuff to do it myself, but in the end, I'd rather just buy a built one.

Asks to login to view. Is this intentional?

To FSX users on the fence for P3D 2.5
Compared to the five bucks I paid for FSX:SE, it looks expensive. I don't need a commercial simulator with the attached commercial price tag, so I'm backing the FSX:SE horse. If it turns out I've wasted my five bucks, then so be it.

unable to uninstall FSX
You may need to make sure you are logged in as an administrative user / or administrator for the uninstall, just in case there is some kind of permission thing going on. It may not make any difference, but it can't hurt to try. Also see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910816

Carenado's .V3 Aircraft
Is there a way to permanently turn off the new scroll wheel support, without having to click the "C" (I think) and then de-select the red circle each time you open the plane. (C172 / F33A) Probably something I need to edit in a config file somewhere I'm guessing. Thanks in advance,

Is P3D 64 bit on the Horizon?
64 bit will mean nothing is compatible and everything will have to be re-purchased. If you don't already have it, I'd wait. That's what I'll be doing. Can't be more than a few years away.

Ignore - TrackIR does not recognise OpusFSX 3.50.2
Hi Guys, Just upgraded OpusFSX to the latest 3.50.2 from 3.44.? and TrackIR software is no longer detecting the title OpusFSX is running. Previous configuration options are still in place and Enable TrackIR is ticked. The bar at the top of the Opus software says Opus FSI Server - .... 3.50.2 not Opus FSX Server - .... 3.50.2. I don't know if this is an indication of the problem. Unfortunately I didn't save the previous installer, so I can't check what the previous one said. Has the name that the TrackIR software uses to determine the title changed accidently in this version. I also tried the OpusFSI demo as well and TrackIR doesn't recognise this either, but TrackIR doesn't contain a title OpusFSI, so that was expected. Thanks in advance, Edit: Just pulled a copy of the 3.44.2 upgrade from my backup server, and TrackIR is now picking up the title. Still says Opus FSI Server ... in the title bar, though. Edit 2: Just ran the whole uninstall of 3.44.2 and install of 3.50.2 again, and now it's happy. Can't explain that, but all is well now.

MS Flight continues... new rumours
Wouldn't it be funny if they just took the content from FSX and placed it into new flight and charged $5 for each one. Australia $5, New Zealand $5, US $5, Europe $5 (might have to split that one up a bit). If a million people download each one (just to have a look) they just made $ 20 Million Dollars - Yeah! It's all about volume.

How are yearly months defined in Australia\NZ versus Europe/USA?
Another thing with driving and distance. When you ask someone overseas how far is it from place A to place B, they will usually tell you x miles or KM. When you ask someone in here how far is it from place A to place B, we will usually tell you x hours. We really don't care how far (distance) it is, we just want to know how long it will take to get there. That's because the distances are huge. Where else can you drive for 10 hours and not leave the state.

"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
Lockheed Martin purchased ESP, training software. FSX is gaming / entertainment software. Why would a jet aircraft company suddenly want to start writing gaming software, is what I should have asked.
-
"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
Not until I read his reply. It went from "I'm special, I've got inside info", to "I didn't know as much as I thought", to "simmers have a bright future", to "now I don't know what the future holds" all in one post. Why would an jet aircraft company suddenly want to start writing software for a simulator? Doesn't really make sense.

"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
Sure did. Every word of it. Looks like you just got home. You think most people here are stupid Your friends company got it, or maybe they didn't. You don't know the full story. So you don't know the answer either.
-
"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
So if it turns out this company has purchased it to create a training sim for their jets, there's nothing in it for the simmers.

"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
Unless the new owners are a bunch of lawyers, who see the upside profit, without ever having to write a single line of code. Somebody we wouldn't expect - tick Somebody with no relationship with the flight sim community - tick Somebody with deep pockets - tick Likely - probably not, but who knows.
-
"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
The licence servers will be shutdown. Microsoft can't run licence servers for products they no longer own. LMOC will be embroiled in a lawsuit with the new owners - billions will be at stake. LMOC stops selling to simmers and strictly enforces their licence - simmers abandon(ed) in droves Re-activations of MSFS requires payment to new owners New owner brings back Flight and DLC Previous un-released DLC put up for purchase - money rolls in Simmers up in arms Riots in the streets Governments declare marshal law Third party developers go bankrupt The economy slumps ...

X in front of FMS TGT ALT (Q400)
I think X means cross at that altitude. So you should descend down to that altitude by that waypoint, so that you cross the waypoint at that altitude. Down arrow mean below that altitude. This is what I undersatand fom what I've read, but I'm by no means an expert.

ALT SEL..... Why?
I read somewhere when the real Q300 version of the plane was built, having to arm the altitude via ALT SEL was a bug, and when they built the real Q400 version of the plane, they made it the same (didn't fix the bug) so pilots would not get confused when swapping between planes. Can't find where I read this, though. Might have been one of the tutorials or FAQ's at Majestic. Edit - Found it in the detailed tutorial WARNING! The FD will not capture an altitude unless it is preselected on the AFCS with an ALT SEL displayed on the PFD. This is a peculiarity of the aircraft- ALT SEL does not come on automatically. It is a Bombardier design flaw that was never fixed (I heard that it was because it kept operational commonality with the -300 and -200 models).

Prepar3d and Orbix Scenery
You can't have it both ways. It is what it says.
-
Prepar3d and Orbix Scenery
I looked at the Iceland demo, and the documentation said it was for FSX and P3D, but also stated it was for entertainment only. Maybe that's just the demo. Haven't read the Global documentation, or any of the documentation for other recently released products. Appears to be mutually exclusive. Perhaps the Orbx documentation will be updated at some point.

P3D v2 pricing
Looking at the LM Web site, a developer licence for Professional Plus is 19.95 / month. So $2300 gives you 115 months, which equals 9.5 years. I suspect V3.0 will be out before then, and if you find it's not for you in the first month, it's only cost you 20 bucks. The $200 Professional Version only gives you 1.5 years at $9.95 / month. That makes a Professional Plus developer licence look very attractive if you need the functionality.
