November 21, 201312 yr I'd suppose the pilots were some of the more experienced ones in the industry? And Dreamlifters don't fly to new/unknown destinations every day? They're factory-to-factory flights, more or less?!? What happened to AVSIM
November 21, 201312 yr That is one very expensive mistake. Be interesting to see how they get it out of there. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
November 21, 201312 yr Author Commercial Member Getting the aircraft out empty is no problem, the question is what cargo is onboard and how will they get it to its destination? Oliver - Apparently Atlas crew fly the Dreamlifter. Rob Prest
November 21, 201312 yr Pretty unbelieveable. They stayed calmer than I would have! November 21, 201312 yr Atlas Air fly the four Dreamlifters for Boeing - Boeing have a factory near Wichita. It's pretty much a Dreamlifter "hub": "Atlas Air #DreamLifter pilots have flown to #McConnell at least 26 times since August 23, 2013 according to #FlightAware @ricktillery" What happened to AVSIM

November 21, 201312 yr How much does this type of cargo typically weigh? Would/could it be possible to fly her out there on a minimum fuel load with the cargo still on board? If I remember correctly, the quoted runway length is for an MTOW take-off. Seeing as these planes fly quite some distances, are they near MZFW when loaded, or not even close? November 21, 201312 yr Can't they just slew it outta there? You just won the internet, sir! Name available upon request

If I remember correctly, the quoted runway length is for an MTOW take-off. Seeing as these planes fly quite some distances, are they near MZFW when loaded, or not even close? All good questions. Keep in mind it should be carrying 787 fuselages or wings. Probably not too heavy compared to dense freight, just bulky. But the runway may not be stressed for this kind of weight and may crack under her weight.
