November 22, 201312 yr I think it's all about covering their butts legally.. LM MIGHT have some agreement with some other contractors who would be turned away if LM were making "entertainment" software... I think it is just a bunch of lawyer/legal legalistic marketing "thing" they (LM) have to do.. that line there pretty much sums it up. Ciao!
November 22, 201312 yr Really sad that a few lawyers in some room have this much power. I hope it gets sorted out. PMDG is hands down my favorite add on company and I wish them continued success. Phil Long

November 22, 201312 yr now that is NOT GOSPEL.. that is just MY GUESS I deal with the legal implications every day in my line of business, so I think there is a good chance you are correct Watch this vid and here is a SS of the text at the end. http://youtu.be/NrKH_x6-ZEk This video appears to have been made by Flightbeam, NOT Prepar3d; as such, I would take anything you see in the form of text with a grain of salt. November 22, 201312 yr From the youtube info text (I would have chosen my words more carefully than they did): "(...) Prepar3d is specifically created for customers wishing to learn about flight simulation, and it's not intended to be a "game" (hence, the license lingo used). The rumors about home customers not being eligible are 100% false, and originate from users from X-Plane series. We are blessed to have choices when it comes to Flight Simulation, and props to X-Plane for making a great simulator! We should encourage mutual development and competition, and not immaturity. We hope this video was useful in demonstrating P3D v2's exciting new lighting visuals, we look forward to more features and enhancements from the Lockheed Martin team.Cheers!Flightbeam Studios" What happened to AVSIM
November 22, 201312 yr Commercial Member I think it's all about covering their butts legally.. LM MIGHT have some agreement with some other contractors who would be turned away if LM were making "entertainment" software... I think MS simply sold the ESP source code to LM to be used for training/learning/professional use only, after all this happened years ago when FSX was probably still selling more than it does today. That's why Prepar3d isn't allowed to be used just for entertainment as far as I know. Regards Joona L
November 22, 201312 yr As others have pointed out, that is from a third-party developer, not Lockheed Martin, and so is not authoritative. A third-party developer would say that wouldn't it? it wants lots of Prepar3d users to sell its products to. Also, what's the connection with PMDG? Gerry Howard
November 22, 201312 yr Gerry, There isn't one. It's a tenuous connection made by the OP between a completely casual non-binding YouTube statement promoting FlightBeam scenery in P3D in which P3D is promoted for "home simulation use" which he mistakenly infers to mean "an entertainment license", which P3D has not. The entertainment licensing issue isn't the only barrier standing between PMDG and LM. That's not to say it won't get sorted out someday, but certainly not because someone said "for home simulation" on YouTube lol Nothing to see here but ponies. J
November 22, 201312 yr I don't think that NyxxUK was implying that P3D has been cleared for "home entertainment" purposes. The fact of the matter is that the "simulation" part really does mean that every single existing user of FSX can purchase a copy of P3Dv2. November 22, 201312 yr That may be. I hope to be one of them But a blurb from a YouTube promotional video from FlightBeam does not make it so, nor does it have anything to do with PMDG - which is silly.
