You can paste any flight plan from the net into the pfpx  flight plan box, you don't need to use the pfpx flight plan auto route

I just want to see the auto route of "ACTUAL REAL LIFE AIRLINE JETSTAR AIRWAYS AUSTRALIA OR VIRGIN AUSTRALIA AIRWAYS FLIGHT PLANNING PROGRAMS* and whether it creates realistic routes *WITHOUT EMPLOYEE INTERVENTION AND RESEARCH*.

 

The answer is: PFPX comes out pretty favourably.

 

Anyway here's a PFPX flightplan I made a few days ago for RJBB - KSFO

The middle portion is the PACOTS track 3 for that day.

 

PFPX does far more than "Routing" though.

I was flying a long 5 hour flight on the weekend, and the PMDG 737 was using within 0.1 metric tonne of what PFPX was suggesting. We actually ended up using 0.1 tonne less than PFPX predicted. 

 

The exact Minimum reserve + diversion fuel was calculated along with the 5% fixed and an extra 15 minutes, entered as minutes and added to the fuel (which, by carrying fuel, means your fuel burn increases).

 

 

The trip length is based on the real world winds at altitude, and all the step climbs are calculated.

 

EET times for FIR boundaries are also calculated to perfection.

 

There's a 2 button press to send the full flight plan to the FMC's CoRoute database.

Another 2 button press to send your entire flightplan including remarks, EET/ SEL/ REG/ PBN etc data to the Vatsim Prefile website... all filled out.

 

The only thing it can't seem to do on it's own is some of the stranger off-airway routes you sometimes find in the USA like http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt?origin=KEWR&destination=CYQB  GREKI JUDDS CAM J222 PLB YSC ROGSA ROGSA4

PFPX is a one stop and all in one flight planner for anyone who is serious about simulating airline flying.

 

It can be a simple as pushing a few buttons or getting really complex.

 

Was maybe the best all around purchase I made in 2013. Completely simplified my pre flight preparations.

Nothing even comes close to it. Simbrief scratches the surface, but it's not even fair to compare them in functionality. The advanced route builder is amazing, I find myself building my own routes sometimes. You won't regret it if you enjoy realistic flight planning.

Im just curiouse how simbrief just scratches the surface?

You can plan your own route of Plug in a real world route or simply select the flight plan that is loaded by default

Fuel burn calcs are very accurate

and its free

It's excellent. It does all that for free and that's amazing. But PFPX is so customizable and complete that it was totally worth my $50. It's that good.

There are a few thing more  you can do with pfpx   edit your route,  change your departure rwys  and sids as well,  on the map it shows the airport tafs all the rwy  and distance of  such,  when flying  you route it will display your aircraft on the map to your route, there are more  you can do which you cant do with simbrief.

I've never used Simbrief so I don't know what it does, but I used FSBuild before I purchased PFPX.  PFPX is very heavy into ETOPS and real world planning and it does everything by the book (even as a real world pilot I gasped at the huge amount of flight planning customizations and capabilities).  There is a ton of ETOPS stuff that I will probably never get into beyond the basics, as I'm not a huge ETOPS guy.  You're correct that PFPX pretty much does what you can find elsewhere in some form or fashion.  However, there is no other program that does it all in one program and also integrates with TOPCAT.  You can customize every single aspect of each and individual aircraft, incorporate NATS, weather, select SIDs and STARs easily (based off direction), etc. 

 

To accomplish my flight planning prior to PFPX I'd have to use FSBuild, Active Sky, TOPCAT, browse the internet to find real world routes and weather charts, and a Scratchpad to write everything down and incorporate it all together.  PFPX does everything all with a few button clicks.

 

I took your position before it came out as to why it would be worth the money but I saw the efficiency of it and I was getting tired of using a bunch of different programs to do everything, so I purchased it and I'm glad I did.  It's a very nice program and I don't regret purchasing it.

Actually if you are looking for a software that creates realistic routes I cant tell you that you may wait forever, even real life flight planning systems doesn't always give you correct routes all the time & that is why you have to check your route segment by segment everytime you create a new route, as you might be overflying tempo restricted route, may be domestic route etc... the flightplanning systems doesnt check notams or tempo restrictions etc...

 

PFPX is a very advanced flight planning system not all users are really able to use all features.
