January 18, 201412 yr I've been experiencing some occasional FSX random CTD's and realized I never installed this program. I'm not interested in any of the functions it provides but have heard it may help with certain CTD's? If installation is a must... Can this be installed and will it not override my weather and joystick controls? Thanks! Chris Camp
January 18, 201412 yr I heard FSUIPC helps avoid some g3d.dll crashes, and even the free version does that. If those are the crashes you are seeing then it's worth a try. The free version does not do control assignments or weather smoothing so you should be safe. Barry Friedman
January 18, 201412 yr Moderator Gerry, you are absolutely correct. FSUIPC, unlike breathing is not strictly necessary. However, as usual you oversimplify things to being either black or white. FSUIPC has proven itself to be extremely useful, even if it is not "necessary..." Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 18, 201412 yr FSUIPC is not necessary. Very necessary for my setup, could not get all my hardware and addons working together without it. But.... if all you have is a simple Joystick, probably not needed for you
January 18, 201412 yr FSUIPC is extremely useful in so many ways ... I only recently discovered how to make it work with all my GoFlight modules and the various Aircraft I use ... but it can do so so much more. It's memory footprint (VAS usage) is tiny also, 7MB. It can also AutoSave flights - HUGE benefit for people like me that OOM frequently. Several 3rd party products do require it (freeware version), but I highly recommend you buy the full version. If you run your flight simulation in a multi-PC networked environment, you may want to use WideFS also. Rob
January 18, 201412 yr Would uninstall FSX if FSUIPC4 was no longer available. Yes it is that valuable, especially the registered version. Ric Elmore
January 19, 201412 yr From the OP Is FSUIPC absolutely necessary....? No it isn't. If installation is a must... No it isn't. Gerry Howard
January 19, 201412 yr Commercial Member I would echo that whether it is a necessity would depend on how complex your hardware requirements are. For myself, with quite a bit of various hardware controls, including some home-made bits running on arduino, yes, it is absolutely a necessity. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
January 19, 201412 yr Yes it is if your having ctds plus its free so whats the harm of installing it I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
January 19, 201412 yr Really, if you don't specifically need FSUIPC for any kind of hardware management, I don't know why you'd pay so much for a simple add-on module. In the old days FSUIPC was the only way to tame the weather problems inherent in Microsoft Flight Simulator(s), and also the only way developers could interface with FSX via external controls. Today, however, the latest weather programs incorporate these features internally, and Microsoft's own Simconnect is now the universal standard for external module interfacing. FSUIPC can manage joystick and keyboard macros in FSX/P3D, but there are freeware utilities like Joy2Key that accomplish the same thing. Again, if you have a really complex, advanced hardware setup, FSUIPC is really helpful I'm sure, but if not I just don't see the need for average use simmers to pay so much for it (around $40, U.S.).
January 19, 201412 yr some addons require you to have fsuipc installed I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
January 19, 201412 yr It's not necessary if: You only ever want to play with your sim in its out of the box basic form. Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 19, 201412 yr Really, if you don't specifically need FSUIPC for any kind of hardware management, I don't know why you'd pay so much for a simple add-on module. There's no need to use the payware version, which indeed does all you mention. However, even the free version can reduce the amount of CTDs, IIRC. Florian
January 19, 201412 yr It's not necessary if: You only ever want to play with your sim in its out of the box basic form. That's not true. I've developed aircraft and scenery for FS9 and FSX without using FSUIPC Gerry Howard
