Yes.

It's not as simple as pressing the compile in 64-bit button, or else it would have been done already :) The baseline has multiple languages, and while you all have mentioned most of the benefits of 64-bit, there are drawbacks, one of the biggest is certain things like BGL (most of the addon scenery you likely use use BGL) won't be 64-bit compatible. So developers will really have to redevelop a lot of their content for a 64-bit P3D.

Whilst I appreciate all the super work being done, it would be very good to keep users updated on the status of the SLI and general DX11 issues - preferably with an estimated date of release of fix as this seems now to have moved to a 'future date'

Also I would like to know if 64 bit support is on the cards for V2, or in the near future in a different version.

It would be very interesting to also get an idea of LM's roadmap for the simulator - are they planning a 'world' simulator for Air land and sea, or mainly a flight simulator with some small goodies such as the submersible. It is hard to understand what is going on and where the potential money earner is for LM. (no disrespect to the team !!). As 'users' we seem to be more paying alpha/beta testers. I am ok with that as hopefully the end results will justify things.

I doubt if the money coming in from this at the moment is paying the dev teams wages, but I could well be wrong.. there must be some 'plan' - what is it ?? :) - where do you see the business developing ?.

I thought I commented before that the 2.1 features like SLI, cloud shadows, etc, are on hold for the moment til we get all the issues resolved. We haven't announced anything on a 64bit version yet , and it's not that easy with this code base being as large and dynamic as it is. And if we do release a 64 bit version, keep in mind a lot of current addons won't work directly wmith it and will need to be recompiled or in some cases re-engineered completely.

Which is it actually saying - "We haven't announced anything on a 64bit version yet , just that we're looking into it...?

They are actually looking into it, which is more that we could potentially get with p3d than we will get with fsx

That's what I just wrote.

And he is just as annoying and condescending now as he has always been in the past...

That's great!  Rob, if and when you get up there again give me a heads up might be fun to watch & say hello!

Hallelujah we are seeing some real rain & snow albeit a bit late we will take everything we can get!  I am deciding which landscaping may have to go this year too...

Are you recording any of these flight Noel?

I hit the video record button in FRAPS but I don't know how to post this big files.  I don't operate a server so how does one post a video that is say 350mb in size?

350MB isn't big ;) ... when I record full size (2560 x 1600) at 30 fps I'm working with 70GB file sizes.  Typically I record to my SSDs, use Adobe Premiere CC (there are many other products that can be used to do the editing/compression) to edit and compress them down to a suitable YouTube format, then upload to my YouTube account (YouTube account is free if you haven't already created one).  Pending the duration of the video, final compressed results are anywhere from 300MB to 2.4GB ... I use 16 Mbps target which is pushing it for YouTube and end user bandwidth, I believe YouTube recommend using 8 Mbps target.

Since I run P3DV2 at 22 fps locked, and record at 30 fps, I run into frame rate mismatch problem so I enable frame rate blending ... side affects is that it tends to make the video appear less "fluid" when in fact it is actually very fluid even at 22 fps locked.  I may change my locked fps with the new 2.1 patch, will just have to wait and see but I'm not expecting performance miracles from the 2.1 patch.  When/If they release a SLi patch, that's when I'll try to bump my locked fps up to 30 so recording and locked frames match (should provide for a much more fluid YouTube watching experience).

I'll be back at Thunderhill in June 7/8 with Lotus Cup folks, hope to see you at track.

I noticed Snave had surfaced over there, those mods are going to be busy.

I would think that the real question of a 64-bit version is; "Would Microsoft Allow It"!

If you think logically about Microsoft giving LM limited rights to further develop the SIM, completely rewriting it in a 64-bit version would kill Microsoft's chances at re-releasing this sim as a new improved FSXI version.

Right now LM has an enhanced version to sell to the DOD but they aren't in competition with X-Plane or Microsoft in the game market.

In short, Rebuilding FSX to 64-bit would make them a direct competitor to MS SDK for FSX future game market possibilities...

Who would buy another MS flight sim when LM has an option just as good if not better?

Chris Camp

Microsoft isn't interested in PC gaming in the least. Maybe they would consider something for the XBoX1, but it probably wouldn't be a volume seller.

It seems unlikely Microsoft had any affect on 64-bit's  Prepar3D development. Lockheed Martin chose to develop Direct X 11.

Wes Bard's last statement was clear "We haven't announced anything on a 64bit version yet, just that we're looking into it"

That's an older statement from Wes, a more recent statement from Wes was "Yes" to the question of there being a 64bit product ... as far as I know Wes has not retracted that answer.  Yes is a yes, it's not a "No" and it's not a "Maybe" it's a positive "Yes".

Agree, Microsoft have nothing to do with 64bit development and I'm almost certain that conversion to 64bit would deem enough of a product change to probably remove LM from many (if not all) of the ESP agreement restrictions or at the very least allow for a re-construction of the agreement.

Microsoft are doing their best to "forget" the desktop computer (and that means desktop specific entertainment) and focus their energy on Mobile and Enterprise -- Xbox One was $3.9B revenue vs. overall at $24.5B ... Xbox represents about 6-7% of Microsoft revenue  (note this is revenue, not net income, overall net income was $6.5B) but I don't know the operating cost of Xbox.

Microsoft still appear to be on the "Mobile or Bust" train which could mean they drop future versions of XBox in order to try and aim more resources at a longer term goal of mobile market penetration ... if I were to hazard a guess, I'd dare suggest the next version of XBox will actually be a mobile device given how long it takes to get consoles out to market -- and Microsoft do like the 2-for-1 process.

Just a thought.

I had a good laugh today. As you know, MS purchased Nokia, but the sale hasn't quite been finalized. Today Nokia announced that they will be selling an Android phone, but it won't use the Google store, rather MS will provide the apps.
