February 15, 201412 yr Decided last night to take the Level-d 767, out of the hanger, and make a flight from, Juneau, to PAEN, Kenai Municipal airport, and an ils landing on 19r, which is 7,830 feet. This is what happens when you don't fly a plane often enough, or just too little, you seem to loose all that experience. Anyway the flight was going pretty smooth, theirs a shot over Anchorage Airport, which is about 50-60 miles out. As I was descending and getting close to Kenai Municipal airport airspace, weather changed drastically and became snowy and foggy. Theirs a shot showing the runway and I'm a bit too high, I could have gone around, that would have been the easy way out, instead I tried to land, well the last shot will show you the results.
February 15, 201412 yr Beautiful pics, even the overrun lol, but hey, you did miss the lights! \Robert Hamlich/
February 15, 201412 yr We've all done it mate, you are not alone :-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
February 15, 201412 yr At least you got 'er on the ground safely but um.....dude.......I do not see your thrust reversers deployed in any of those shots....? Also, did you have autobrakes set to the max? Just wondering... M bad if you did the above. Awesome shots, though. Cheers.
February 15, 201412 yr Author autobrakes set to three, lot of great scenery in this package by Orbx..
February 15, 201412 yr Nice looking bird and shots. I've done it too by either triggering the TOGA switch accidentally or just plain approaching the runway too fast. On the flip side I've forgotten to set the trim a time or two and the next thing I saw was trees and buildings filling up the cockpit glass while trying to rotate lol. I've since learned on approaches to get my speed down well in advance and have never had any more problems with stopping in time. If I'm ever in doubt on descent, I select a higher flaps and or autobrake setting. So far, so good! Chris Sunseri
February 15, 201412 yr I did exactly same thing yesterday. The weather was a touch worse than yours. Picked up the lead in lights at mins and screwed up the turn. Went so far over that the sim fired me back into the air to have another go... Ugly day - two runways with erm... four approaches required. Mike Dryden
February 15, 201412 yr Once landed at Gander at night, low visib. I was new to FS at the time, was not well versed about reverse thrust, etc and after landing I couldn't figure out why i haven't stopped, and why there were no lights around. So I changed the time of day to daytime, and found myself floating in the ocean!. It was pretty funny at the time, and it taught me to read manuals, and follow procedures more carefully in the future. Rob Rob Marton

Wouldnt make any difference deplying the thrust reversers in terms of stopping distance! James Bennett
February 16, 201412 yr Wouldnt make any difference deplying the thrust reversers in terms of stopping distance! nevermind...coffee caught up with the brain.
February 16, 201412 yr Author First of all thanks for everybodies comments, we are all allowed to make a mistake, but in the real world you have to be perfect up there. With that said, did the same flight from Juneau, Alaska, into Kenai Municipal Airport, land on the same runway, which is about 7,800 ft. long, 19r, but this time the weather is much improved, and as you can see on 2 shots fro a comparison I am a bit lower. To make things interesting I used the PMDG Queen of the Skies 747, landing full flaps out. autobrakes set to max, and hit the ground at a little less than 140 , more like 130, these changes definitely help me land the 747, as compared to the 767 wihich ran past the runway. Hope you enjoy them, and feel free for any comments:
