February 25, 201412 yr Moderator Autogen. Alex is working on a set of autogen that will greatly improve the coverage, variety, and correctness of US autogen  You can tell the rest of the world isn't a priority here.
February 25, 201412 yr Good to hear some official news, but it is light on specifics as always. A healthy amount of "I don't know", "not sure how", and general hopes and wishes, but that's not surprising. I'm happy to see some of the topics that were at least mentioned, but that's kept strongly in check by the uncertainty of it all.
February 25, 201412 yr "...,so we are trying to focus on high quality for what X-Plane 10 does, not on expanding X-Plane 10 into (even more) new territory." wow ! that´s a big f++k you to the community, for me it means, no new features like seasons, atc, ai, weather for xplane 10, which are so strongly needed to outperform fsx/p3d FINALLY ! And even now where the market is changing and p3d is at a weak state, xplane come with those uninspired news. Thx for nothing... Very disappointing I must say. I can´t believe it !For me only ATC, AI, Weather and seasons are missing for a stable x plane platform which can then succeed and atract more 3rd party devs. Xplane does so many things right but some things are just years behind and/or simply not there. Theres so little what have to be done to get this sim up in the air...maan Don´t they see it ? Do they want it at all ?Am I completely wrong ?
February 25, 201412 yr Moderator Don´t they see it ? Do they want it at all ?Am I completely wrong ? This has been pretty much discussed every time X-Plane vs FSX is bought up, I don't think we'll see any improvements in this area until X-Plane 11. I'm disappointed they are concentrating on yet more US buildings for the autogen, and completely ignoring the rest of the world. Hopefully the datarefs they are adding will allow someone to create a weather plugin and also control ATC/AI. The only way we'll see these getting fixed soon is by a third-party developer.

Three features out of four you're listing are existing X-Plane features, and as such qualify as points that Laminar probably wants to improve. Oh well, sorry to interrupt the complaining, please go on... Pascal
February 25, 201412 yr I can't disagree with the fact that they're doing their best to optimise whatever they have right now instead of bogging down the simulator with lots of new features, but they really need to work on some areas where X-Plane is really deficient compared to the competition. The lack of seasons is something they have to get to. Another area I'd really like to see improved is the GUI. I keep coming to the X-Plane 10 demo, only to run away immediately because of how hard for me it is to use it, coming from FSX. I still can't figure out how the heck to set the hat switch of my joystick to pan the camera in the virtual cockpit or spot plane view. It's good that they're improving what they have, but if they want to become more competitive, they badly need to fill some gaps.
February 25, 201412 yr Wow, relax people. The very fact that it is light on specifics means you need to be careful on the conclusions you draw. Let's see what the final list is, and then you can pass judgement... until then there is not enough information available to come to any sort of conclusion. Kind of reminds me of the P3D folks shouting that PMDG will not support P3D, and then Rob came out with a lengthy thread stating they would... let's keep conspiracy theories to a minimum and be careful how much we read into things. February 25, 201412 yr Moderator As bad as the UI is, and the lack of some things such as seasons, etc.. I still can't force myself to go back to FSX or P3D. I still have them installed, but even with all the addons and planes I have for them, it doesn't look anywhere near as good as X-Plane. So it isn't all bad :-)
February 25, 201412 yr As supposedly bad as FSX and P3D are, I still cant force my self to reconsider an empty X-Plane! There both still far more realistic.

So it isn't all bad :-) I've been watching the development of X-Plane very closely lately, and I've got to admit that it's starting to look really good. Prepar3D will never have towns, neighbourhoods and roads looking this good, for sure. But all of that is destroyed when I see how unusable it is for me. It would be nice if they made it a little easier for FSX users to get into it, maybe strive for a more "out of the box" experience.

I agree with you, the UI looks really bad and is quite difficult to use if you're not used to it. When I first got back into X-Plane 10 after using FSX, I found the interface really clunky and the virtual cockpits really difficult to use. I now have a range of plugins installed which help me use the virtual cockpits, and it was until only recently that I realized that there is an ezdok style view system built-in. Once I got used to it and have everything setup, it works well for me. One plugin I really miss from FSX is OpusFSX. For a really nice basic UI and ease of use, you can't beat AeroflyFS :-)

If you gave it more then a minute you would be able to figure out the HAT switch. It really easy ! If you need some help shoot me a PM. I like the UI a lot better then FSX ! February 26, 201412 yr Commercial Member I still can't figure out how the heck to set the hat switch of my joystick to pan the camera in the virtual cockpit or spot plane view. You can't. You can only set it to "glance left", "glance right", "forward view", "look behind", but not real panning. Use the right mouse button instead, it's a very quick way to move around (and one which I really miss in FSX). Mario Donick .:. vFlyteAir
