My wallet hole is too big to afford a scenery for 40$, and a requirement to buy the base pack on top of it. I'll stay with my default, or just avoid flying into Calgary :(. Flightbeam KSFO for 20$, CYVR for 23$ were amazing prices, but eh.. eh?

Best Regards,

Interesting run on this thread - I do hope the developer has a chance to see it, and take away from it the info that there a lot of people who would be interested in purchasing some of his airports were they only sold standalone.

I know I would definitely consider purchasing both CYYC and CYWG if they were available separately.  The trouble I have is that even though I know you can buy CYHZ as a 'Lite' version, it really is somewhere I'd never fly.

I do appreciate that the developer has made P3Dv2 packages available, but until there's a wealth of native aircraft in P3Dv2, I really have no use for bigger airports there.

He can look all he wants because I won't be buying no matter what the price now.

Using default runway textures? I have seen freeware that looks better than this.

This looks terrible IMO, and asking $80 for it (after requiring you to buy the base package) is just a rip off.

Adam Bentley's old CYYC for FS9 looks better than this IMO (and works in FSX with a patch, sadly not with ORBX NRM installed)

What with Haneda from Technobrain on sale at approximately $66, this could be a worrying trend! Also it could be counterproductive for the developers in the long run as many of us may be forced to stop buying addons.

I have pretty much all the simaddon stuff and have to say it's worth every penny. Top notch products and support to match.

I've had Ralph's sceneries for years. Started off with Halifax then got others from the Maritime's. I also have Toronto Island and Ottawa and when you couple them with Montreal and Buffalo of Fly Tampa, the excellent Quebec City freeware you have some excellent shorthaul routes that you can do in everything from Majestic 400 to PMDG's aircraft. I've found I enjoy these sceneries for a long time. For me the outlay has been worth it in long term enjoyment. I'm just now starting to collect Ralph's western Cdn sceneries.

I badly wanted some additional Canadian airport scenery so I went for some of these - as well as the Halifax pack, I have purchased St John NB, the Nova Scotia small airports pack, Calgary and the St John's, Moncton, Deer Lake pack. Overall I have to agree these have provided me with some very enjoyable new Canadian scenery.

Are they worth the price? This is debatable - there is no doubt that they are on the expensive side but in many cases you get multiple airports for your money and, in the case of Halifax, you get 5 airports and quite a reasonably modelled autogen city which mitigates the cost to an extent. However I think Simaddons could achieve a lot more sales if they reduced their prices somewhat and changed the requirement to have the Halifax base pack.

Are they top notch? I would have to disagree here, but I would describe most of the ones I have bought as varying in quality from good to very good. The weakest ones were some amongst the Nova Scotia small airports pack but  these work out at less than $1 each! I have been particularly impressed by St John's NF, Moncton and Calgary but to describe an airport to be "top notch", then, for me it would have to be of FlyTampa / Aerosoft Mega quality which these are not, although Calgary is perhaps not far off.

Would I recommend them? I would have to say yes to that, particularly if you are interested in flying in this area or if you want a few more Canadian airports as international destinations. I certainly do not regret buying these and will probably be looking at adding a few more as time goes on.

Orbx freeware airports look better than some of this stuff. I would pay about 20 bucks tops for YYC and zippo for the rest.

I suspect you have reached your opinion on the basis of the available screenshots and, from your comments, I assume you have not bought any of 'this stuff'!

My opinion however was on the basis of a selection of Simaddons 'stuff' which I have purchased, installed and experienced. As I indicated, the quality is variable particularly in the small airports pack and, although I would certainly not describe any of the ones I have as top notch, most of them are pretty good. I should add that I have a huge number of payware addons with almost everything produced for FSX by the top notch (IMO) developers like FlyTampa, Aerosoft, FSDT and UK Xtreme as well as huge numbers of addons from up and coming developers such as Latin VFR, Taxi 2 Gate, Tropical Sim, Drzewiecki, Imagine Sim and Thai Creation and have even bought a few from Blueprint (!), so I think I am in a strong position to know good scenery from bad!

I personally have no issue with the quality that I can perceive from the screenshots.  The major airports all look more than decent, and if you spend any time flying in or out of the major Canadian hubs (which I do, whenever I'm not flying small GA or military), they are miles and miles ahead of the very sad default scenery.  I've spent my fair share of time working on AFCAD's and trying to make custom models in GMAX; I can safely say that the Simaddons stuff on offer is far above what I could ever hope to do.  (I'm currently working on CYXE. Trying to texture the terminal has been making my hair grey going a bit rough, so it's unlikely it'll ever see a release.)

As I've mentioned before, my only issue is the pricing scheme - I'd love to be able to make the decision as to whether I want to pay $39.99 for CYYC, instead of deciding whether I also want to pay $29.99 for the 'Lite' CYHZ pack.  I have my regular budgeted allotment of funds earmarked for simming coming up once again at the beginning of the month, and sadly, I think once again Simaddons won't see any of it.

(edit)

I just wanted to add, that if they're so keen on having a base pack so as to not have to redistribute resources, perhaps they could consider making a 'Western' base pack in conjunction with the CYHZ base pack, so that us simmers who really only want to fly in Western / Central Canada can do so without being forced to purchase an airport somewhere where we will never fly.  I might be a lot more inclined to jump on board if they were to do this.

Just checked the simaddons website, and the pricing hasn't changed.

I guess this guy just doesn't like money.

My wallet will remain closed on this one, to expensive nor am I interested in CYHZ, secondly, the quality is just not there, buildings look ok, but ground textures just ain't there.
