New Calgary SIMADDONS CYYC available

Featured Replies

Simmaddons scenery is very good and you need to look at all the areas done. In he east it starts at Toronto Island and finishes with St John's Nfld. The east coast is really well covered. Halifax covers a large area including the city and the military base downtown.

In the west  the sceneries include Calgary and Kelowna, Castlegar, Banff and Prince George are done as well. If you're looking for good quality Canadian scenery this is it - and imho it's worth the money. Also, I have never experienced and OOM which is more than you can say about others.

dbw1 - I don't think anyone is questioning the quality, just the ridiculous pricing. As it was pointed out in this thread, just to get YHZ and YYC will cost you +- $84 CAD (the person who corrected me was actually wrong, FSX sceneries are in CAD dollars). Again, no one is questioning the quality or the coverage but the high price tag. Also, I don't suffer OOM's using any other add-on scenery and I'm really sorry, if that's a key selling point, it's a pretty weak argument.

Hi Mike, I agree they are not cheap when factoring in Halifax as a requirement. To have Cdn sceneries available available and good ones at that well to me that's worth the extra cost. As to the OOMs not having them is a bonus plus they have good Frame rates. Also, I get a lot of enjoyment flying in fsx places I used to in real life. Cheers.

A question, since there seems to be a few fans of SimAddons in this thread:  Are the western Canadian releases compatible with the Orbx regions?

(Obviously, I'm still on the fence here.)

Orbix is definitely in a class of it's own. Having said that Simaddons is pretty good. For example winter scenes in Halifax are great. Deicing is available though I have never used it.

Wow @ $40. No thanks. I would spend $40 for 2 sceneries but asking $40 for YYC is a tad too much. Thanks for posting because I'm always looking for high quality Canadian airports.

I do alot of flying in Canada and I have the Hamilton and st John's scenery so I bit the bullet and got it today. Cost me 21 GBP. I'll be flying in at 1700z today if you watch the twitch channel

It's Sim Addons pricing scheme that has this Canadian flying more in Europe & The U.S then in my own country (Aside from FlyTampa Montreal).

I'd love to purchase all these airport as they're supporting a market which most developers ignore. But if he's happy with a small market while developing for the worlds second largest land mass I think he's losing out. I almost guarantee that if he changed he pricing he'd see his sales soar.

I've voted with my wallet many times on these and will continue to do.

I've actually sent the developer the link to this conversation.

Did he reply to you? Interested to see if anything came of that

I just installed FSX (haha), and I'm interested in the BC and AB airports, but I don't want YHZ at this moment. What a dumb pricing model! He is missing quite a bit of business!

The developer is very nice and accommodating with any questions by email so I hope he sees this topic and changes his mind about the tiered pricing.

It's a terrible pity that a more reasonable pricing policy has not been introduced by this developer. By all accounts, his airports seem good (screenshots of Calgary certainly look very good), they come with plenty of autogen and unique features like deicing and the developer himself seems to be a nice person. I do however agree with all those above who make the point that Simaddons are probably losing out on a lot of sales because of their pricing structure. In my opinion there are probably many thousands of simmers out there like me, who like to have good quality airports to fly to in as many countries as possible around the world and who are willing to pay a fair price for good airport scenery. If the price of an airport addon is deemed excessively high however, only a small proportion of simmers are likely to fork out the extra money - perhaps people who live in that area and just have to have it or people who just like to fly in a specific area - and as such the developer is really restricting the number of sales he is going to achieve.

Don't get me wrong - I think people who go to the trouble to produce good addons for FSX or any other flight simulator deserve to be financially rewarded for their work, like anyone else and deserve a profit. However, I often wonder why developers don't follow the philosophy of low cost airlines, who cut their profit margins on seats but nevertheless make huge overall profits by attracting vast numbers of people to fly with them. Likewise a modest drop in the cost of flightsim addons could result in huge numbers of extra purchases and, at the end of the day, much higher overall profits for the developer.

No Nothing Yet, I hope he really does get to see that alot of people are intereseted in his product, but just can't get past the pay structure.

I'd fly from east to west if I had payware (don't fly default airport EVER!) airports supported.

Quite clearly people are starving for a descent representation of Canadian airports, I remember George from Flytampa stating he was amazed at how well Montreal sold, Above there expectations!!

Just have to play the waiting game I guess.

I never understood why they do that pricing scheme, seems they cut off their own chances at sales

Because the developer got lazy and did not separate out the common objects, textures etc. into a separate library a la ORBX libs.  I know because I have the CYOW airport.  Fortunately for me I also sorta like CYHZ.  Btw, you can buy the lite CYHZ package to get the common library, but it should have been separated.

40$ is still too much for me.  The quality is good, not great.

the update to the CYHZ runway, that'll cost you another $10

No kidding, you could just open up ADE and change it yourself.  10$ for an updated AfCad is indeed outrageous!

So i went into cyyc yesterday, if you look at the below video then scroll along to 4hrs 35 mins in, I tried to pan as much as I could around the airtport scenery,  the ai traffic isnt include its ut2.

But I do feel its a tad to basic for what I paid for it.
