April 3, 201412 yr Or when clouds are moving over the water it looks better ... adjusts some of the sheen. Indeed... the build I have (2.1.10201.0), which has cloud shadows in an older incarnation are a little buggy on the water, but still look good... I've seen screens and vids of the later builds with shadows looking much better on the water, which adds quite a bit to the realism and general look of the oceans. I would ditch the 3D water 'if' that is an issue in getting it to look good from altitude, but LM are building a complete world sim to cater for many tasks, not just us fussy 'home' flight sim users, where visuals outweigh other considerations.
April 3, 201412 yr Moderator Other than those mentioned, my two main gripes with the water are the "patterned" look of the waves at altitude and the overall darkness of the water, which I believe is an Orbx/P3D issue. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
April 3, 201412 yr Let's hope this 2.2 release will be stable enough to entice third party developers to start investing serious time and energy in P3D. Once credibility is established, you can bet a tsunami of fixes and adjusted installers will follow... it feels like an entire industry is sitting on the fence . Rob, I hope you realize how your efforts are valued and how you will be the focus of intense judgment once this release is out. With your background in computing I'm sure everything will turn out great. (ps... I still have my beloved TRS-80 model 1 4k... upgraded to 16k (1981) when it became available LOL)

I still have my beloved TRS-80 model 1 4k... upgraded to 16k (1981) when it became available LOL) I'm pretty sure "intense judgement" towards me was performed long ago ... hehe ... hopefully I've covered my buttocks with endless disclaimers I gave away my TRS-80 color computer many moons ago ... I paid about $800 (+ a few accessories) for it new and from what I've seen today, they are worth considerably more to collectors. I remember the days of ASCII characters moving across my TV/monitor as I connected to a BBS ... 300 baud ... it seemed fast at the time ... didn't even have to worry about hackers or viruses back in the day
April 4, 201412 yr I gave away my TRS-80 color computer many moons ago My first PC was a Dragon32 which was based on the TRS-80 and could run some of the same software [it was build in Wales hence the name].. it was a great machine to learn on, with a very easy to use version of MS BASIC, with logical graphics commands, meaning I could quickly make images, something I loved to do... and importantly it was my first experience with a flight sim, with Microdeal's 'World of Flight' so it started it all off for me... I too gave mine away, maybe twenty years ago, and have always regretted doing so. Anyway, way OT... Hoping LM are able to get the update out today :Praying:
April 4, 201412 yr TRS 80 with a beautiful green and black screen and a %#^><|\€ tape recorder as mass storage device. PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
April 4, 201412 yr TRS 80 with a beautiful green and black screen and a %#^><|\€ tape recorder as mass storage device. You're forgetting the awesome flickering stars (top right of screen) as the program loaded and if you had a cheap radio set up beside the old Tyrex-80 you could actually hear the powerful Z-80 lol. Can't believe I actually compiled some assembler on the thing lol
April 4, 201412 yr Yep, it was the time when you were looking at the Zilog processor instruction set to develop your own drivers. I remember having connected a Novar terminal to this antiquated rig.... No RS232 serial interface or USB 2.0 at that time, I had to do with the parallel port and transform it into a kind of serial device with some Transistor Transistor Logic (TTL) chips ... No RS232 serial interface or USB 2.0 at that time, I had to do with the parallel port and transform it into a kind of serial device with some Transistor Transistor Logic (TTL) chips ... My first encounter with a computer was less er... heroic. I bought an Atari 1024 STFM in the mid-eighties and when I got home I started to read what I thought was the manual. After getting totally depressed because I didn't understand a single freaking word of it, I discovered it wasn't the manual for the computer but for some programming software that came for free with the Atari and that I could simply buy a program and run it... which is what I have been doing ever since. What a joy that was and is. EDIT I have to add though that I very quickly developed some sort of subconscious feel for computers and that people always come to me when they have a problem with one. Even if I know nothing about it, I somehow know where to look or what to push to solve the problem. And believe it or not, it happens quite frequently that a problem is solved already when I only get NEAR the computer...! (But that probably has to do with people focusing more on what they are doing when I am looking over their shoulders LOL. Most problems with computers are user errors.)
April 4, 201412 yr This all looks like waiting room chit-chat. But we are in the waiting room. Hopefully not for more than a couple more hours. Is it going to be a great weekend or am I going to have to do something else  Rob, do you feel like you are missing out on the anticipation that the rest of us are feeling right now? Edit: Looks like its going to be a sad weekend for all of us: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6292 All of us, except Rob that is.

Holy Batman ! ... we've got cold and long winters up here LOL Believe it or not I still have my first electro-mechanical dial-up (klak-klak-klak) 300baud rate modem (LYNX) that I used to connect to the university's server (PDP10) back in the early 80's in the days when there was a line-up til 3AM to use dumb terminals. Those were the days.... not!
April 4, 201412 yr Rob, do you feel like you are missing out on the anticipation that the rest of us are feeling right now? Not really, I want to see people's reactions to 2.2 as well as any additional issues that were reported and fixed. So there is definitely some anticipation.
April 4, 201412 yr i remember seeing a sticky on the p3d forum listing all the bugs and their statuses. has anyone got a link please?
