It is important to have a warmed up engine before going to full power even before a run-up.  I grew up in Wisconsin.  It is important to get fluids warm before moving, that's for sure.

I played trumpet for 12 years.  Many people don't know there is a warmup process for the embouchure to be at it's peak.  But even fewer know that the instrument itself has to be warmed to it's "operating temperature" to be at it's "tuned performance",  there is a measurable tone difference. Something you learn playing in marching bands in the frozen tundra (yes Lambeau field too).  That is what I think of anyways when you talk about warming your cars up, because they're kind of tuned for those temperatures.

A relaxing flight out of 3W5 at dusk ... (available 1440p)

Cheers, Rob.

Something just came to mind.  CCR has their own airport! I wonder if John Fogerty is a pilot.

Either way, hes gonna need to sing more rain songs for California.

Dont ask me why I brought that up. Maybe just itching to try 2.2 p3d. Autogen is definitely more fluid.

Are we close to release?

Another sweet video. I was wondering if its me or what, but the water looks blurry. Or is it just that particular texture?

Hi Rob, has this been resolved?

This only happened on my setup after installing the later nvidia drivers...not too sure who is to fault here -- P3D, or nvidia.

Nice video, Rob!

Although it reveals some of the weak points of P3D, like the fact that not all light source cast light onto the objects. This becomes obvious at the end of your video when you taxi under the light poles and there are no (cockpit) shadows from those lights. And I see that the windsock still don't wok in 2.2.

Anyway: It’s great to see that P3D 2.x makes good progress! Looking forward to install 2.2 myself.

Thank you for your time and efforts with testing the beta and communicating with LM.

X-Plane 11 latedt version on a Samsung M.2 SSD for speedy loading times

Hopefully we will have 2.2 by Friday

I have a feeling that this is going to be amazing

with the VAS improvement and other great features

and the expected release of the NVidia 337.XX drivers

this month and the fact that SLI may be just around corner.

I think we are going to get what we were all hoping

for with the initial release.

I cant wait!

I'm looking forward to v.2.2, with its VAS improvements (and the new NVidia drivers).

My OOMs are rare with v.2.1, but after installing FTX Vector (on top of FTX Global), I have to avoid some urban areas, but I'm still loving P3D (as I mostly fly in mountainous regions).  If v.2.2 reduces VAS usage enough, I'll be adding Orbx's NCA and PNW soon.

No problem to install NCA and PNW into 2.1 today.

The only thing to do is to keep the vegetation density at medium or below. So if you are a little careful with your settings it works great already in 2.1. Buildings are not that much of an issue! I can fly into the Vancouver area or around SFO with max autogen and no OOMs for hours.

And I can tell you: PNW never looked better as in 2.1 (except for Rob's video ^_^)! The shadows of the mountains are nothing less than amazing!

Thanks! But I also need to wait until a bit later in the month (due to my budget).  Besides, I think it will be very cool to experience PNW and NCA for the first time with v.2.2 (with cloud shadows).

I was wondering if its me or what, but the water looks blurry.

The blurry is the hefty coat of satin Varathane LM has generously painted on top of all water :(

OK, Hightowers, if you are using P3D V2.x, please, please share the source and exact set of water textures you are using if they don't have the 2" thick coating of satin finish on top of them!  Some angles aren't bad, but I have yet to find a water texture set that really looks good!  Oh they look great from 300', but up in the air it's not so pretty, except as I say from certain angles of light reflection.

I was wondering if its me or what, but the water looks blurry.

Angle of the sun seems induce this ... I've tried different water textures from REX 4 and they all seem produce this effect at certain angles and sun position.  Was hoping REX folks would come up with a solution here ... wondering if this can be managed via shader edits (similiar to how rain.fx can be change to be less drastic).  Anyway, room for improvement for sure.

If v.2.2 reduces VAS usage enough, I'll be adding Orbx's NCA and PNW soon.

I was able to get VERY close to OOM using NCA, Vector, OpusFSX, REX 4, dusk, QW RJ100, AccuFeel, FSUIPC, with my extreme settings, and some really nasty weather (like we had recently in SF/BayArea, many clouds and clouds layers) ... hit 3.9GB VAS, I didn't OOM, but it was close.  So I think OOMs are still possible and I'm almost certain people will find ways to make it happen with the right settings and combination of add-ons and weather. ;)   But like I eluded to early, the OOM ceiling has been raised, but there still is a ceiling.

Although it reveals some of the weak points of P3D, like the fact that not all light source cast light onto the objects.

I think that's dependent on the 3rd party developer ... I seem to recall Oslo 2.0 (aerosoft) night lights did cast onto objects (will check tonight).  Wes has indicated there is still much in the works in terms of new features ... I don't know if this is one of them and I don't know it's GPU processing implications.  But I do know development isn't stopping at v2.2 ... it will continue to evolve as a product.

Hi Rob, has this been resolved?

I don't have that aircraft, so I don't know, sorry.  I did see some strange black shifting texture squares on the QW RJ100 when using a certain view ("flyby") but only with the QW RJ100 (which is technically not fully 100% compatible with P3DV2.x) and only in "flyby".

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks for the new video.  Can't wait to get the new version and turn up my settings.

Maybe those GA pilots with C-172 experience can chime in on how/if they do full throttle check prior to takeoff?

In real life you'd do a taxiway run up into the headwind (they're are usually places to pull over to do it). 2000RPM, mags check, carb heat check, engine instruments, amp meter, gyro suction, etc.

On the runway it's different depending on the situation. If you are on a long runway, a roll to full power is fine.

But in your 3W5 video because of runway length, the proper procedure is 2 notches of flaps and full brakes while you power up. Once you see you have a good engine you release at full power and start the roll. That's a short field takeoff.

Where I fly is a shorter field so we do this. But when we do pattern work at Maryland airfield (jet length runway) we just roll onto the runway and run it up as we are going.

Another thing most simmers probably don't realize is that flaps are optional on takeoff depending on runway length for most small GA planes. If you've got the length, no flaps is better and the plane will be much smoother on climb out. 2 notches of flaps is going to bounce the plane around a lot more on initial climb out.

Something just came to mind.  CCR has their own airport! I wonder if John Fogerty is a pilot.

Either way, hes gonna need to sing more rain songs for California.

You will find that the only flightplans out of CCR go to 1O3, where upon landing your engine fails and they are unable to get replacement parts any time soon.
