P3DV2.2 Beta 2 info/video

Rob,

I'm in transit at the moment and just picked up your post. I havent had a chance to watch your video however I'm keen to know what aircraft you're using. Is it default or payware?

Cheers mate, I have been sitting back waiting to see if I want to make the switch from fsx. I love my pmdg birds and am anxiously waiting to see what performance is like with complex payware aircraft as well as scenery, airports etc.

I have watched the downloaded video several times. Although at those setting the expectation of the sim being silky smooth is a bit to much, respectfully I have to say that there are stutters. For most of the video they are very minor and barely noticeable but in some parts like flying over Downtown San Francisco and toward KSFO they are more obvious. You have to bare in mind that this is a video and not the sim itself. I have made lots of FSX and P3DV2 videos and no matter what format the video ends up in FRAPS nearly always introduces stutters of its own. I would easily believe that the Stutters in this video are entirely caused by FRAPS Mostly because Rob said that the SIM was locked to 24FPS but he was recording 30FPS in fraps. Not saying I know better than you Rob (I fact I am sure I don't  ) but that seems like a recipe for FRAPS induced stuttering to me. If the sim is locked to 24FPS I would record at 24FPS too for a smooth playback.

Again respectfully I don't by that the stutters I am seeing are low FSP related. What you see as a result of low FPS I more like motion blur not stutters and you only see that motion blur on fast moving object at the Low frame rate. You also see double. For example If you fly by a lamp standard and look at it as you are flying by you will see two lamp standard side by side. The lower the frame rate the more pronounced the effect but if the playback is smooth otherwise you won't see stutters, object move smoothly but appear to be blurred The faster the frame rate the less the blurring effect.

You can see exactly what I mean in this video Touted as 100% stutter free recorded with FRAPS at 30FPS. There is a download link in the video and in the download it really is 100% stutter free but the double vision and the blur of fast motion is a real give away of slow frame rate.

Is it default or payware?

This is a long thread, but the original video short was done using the LM's provided Carenado A36 Bonanza.  The 2nd video (long flight) was done using Quality Wings BAe146/RJ100 - I'll get that video up tonight.

I also want to return to the MJC8 Q400 and see how it's working in this 2.2 beta 2 build.

OMG I am so excited to hear about the wall of OOM being pushed a lot further.

Yes, OOM's have been pushed out much much further ... I'm guessing I could have done a 5 hour flight even with these rather extreme settings and all my installed 3rd party products (some of which are not intended for P3DV2.x).  Not suggesting OOMs can't happen ... I know they can given enough time or at an airport like Aerosoft's Dublin.

Cheers, Rob.

I rest my case, which was that processing overhead for delivery HQ video & VAS limits are somewhat in sync, making the issue of emphasizing the (ultimately troublesome) VAS limit in the 32-bit sim somewhat moot today and for the foreseeable (i.e., several years) future.  Hardware isn't developing for the desktop quite as fast it seems to me, and w/ SLI coming, well, you get the drift as me Mum was prone to saying.

Yes, probably not the best to lock fraps at 30 while the sim is locked at 24 -- a mistake on my part.  I can set Fraps to record at 24 fps (or uncheck lock) but Adobe PP seems to have a problem with it if I do and I need to use Adobe PP to convert to a format YouTube can handle.

Also it's worth noting that I'm recording 2560 x 1600 @ 30 fps ... that puts A LOT of stress on the bus ... thats data transfers happening at 234 MB/s  (note MB/s not Mbps) sustained!  What you see on my YouTube videos is 8Mbps - 16Mbps ... as you can see, that's a VERY drastic difference.

I'll play around more with FRAPs/Adobe and see what I can come up with that might help on the movie making side.

Cheers, Rob.

Since we're on the topic of video ... here is a video I made last weekend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M07RqpdACTE - I see stutters in it ... what do you think?  It was recorded at 30 fps 1080p.

Cheers, Rob.

What game is that? The graphics are incredible

Now you're just showing off Rob

Stutters? When your bouncing around like that nobody gonna see those stutters.

Sure if you're looking hard enough you will find stutters in the real world with your eye's

That's some nice driving Rob.

I always wanted to do that!

It must be fun being a race car driver for a living.

When are they letting us have V2.2

I won't tell anyone else!

Why don't you just try 1080 at 30 fps and fraps at 30fps.

You have to set your monitor to 30FPS to if you can but since 60FPS

is a multiple of 30 that should be good too.

Can you set you Monitor to 24Hz?

And maybe just try Windows movie maker.

That's what I do.

It must be fun being a race car driver for a living.

It would be, but I'm not sadly -- at least I don't do it for a living, just for fun ... I just head up software development at my company (and lead programmer - it's a small company).

2.2 has a few things to be sorted out, all I can say is LM crew are working VERY hard at it and I'm working late nights to early morning testing and reporting items -- fortunately I only seem to need about 5 hours sleep per day.

That video sux!  Too much stutter....  and the autogen line was waay too shallow!  ....and talk about the blurries!  The sky has no clouds!  Shadows are unrealistic...too dark!  With all that shaking and bouncing I couldn't read the gauges!   Epic fail!!  Only there was no OOM...so that's a good thing.  You just missed a cone though! ;-)

I know, no matter how fast, I just can't seem to get rid of those stutters.

Thanks for all your efforts Rob, fantastic to have someone in our community doing so much to test the sim platform so more people can enjoy it.

Hey Rob-

I went ahead and got P3D and sprang for ORBX Vectors and the other stuff.  Gotta try to get that effect you showed off so nicely in your video.  Forget these guys... you did a great job with that vid!

By sharing your settings, you make the setup task much simpler!

I'm willing to try P3D v 2.1 (and waiting on 2.2 which I gather from your comments should be out in the near future...)  Thanks again.

Good job!

Only there was no OOM...so that's a good thing.

As Rob already made perfectly clear that whole point of the video was to demonstrate that V2.2 beta VAS management was so good that you would not even get close to an OOM placing all the setting in P3D very high and to let us see some new features like cloud shadows etc. Not to Produce a video of showed off how silky smooth P3D V2 can run with the right settings. If Rob Set out to do he could do it in a heart beat.

Based on that fact that he demonstrated exactly what he set out too,  the Video is an epic success.

Apart from that you're basically full of it

Caution....     Clearly you missed the punchline....so here's the replay, the video in question is this one :-)
