Does this LOD affect land class textures (eg. photoscenery) too?

Autogen vegetation only.

Great testing work Rob... very impressive stuff.

The video was great, but why is p3d so dark. One scene shows right into the sun and it seems overcast? Just asking!

Rob,

Just to make sure that I understood...all the above tests had been done in 4096 resolution with max LOD. Is it correct?

Ditto,

My question too... Please confirm if these test results are based on 4096 texture settings?

I don't see any immense stutters in the video?

The clouds and Orbx textures look great - I do miss those. But are you kidding about the stutters? From the get go I see constant stuttering. You have a monster rig, terrain shadows off and it's a 6 min video. I'm afraid I still see lots to be sceptical about maintaining a good visual experience over a long flight for the majority.

Rob - Installation Question

Out of curiosity, are you testing by way of a full, fresh installation of the v2.2 beta, or are you testing with a fully outfitted v2.1 installation with addons which was then updated in place with a patch?

Thanks,

-Greg

I wonder if what your seeing is not just a consequence of the video conversion, which is low.

Lots of people cant see micro stutters, Rob is one of them it seems, I've watched the videos on three different platforms, I downloaded them as well as streamed them and they all stutter.

Cheers, Andy.

The stuttering is clearly visible for me aswell, it's quite bad actually.

Ah, glad I am not the only noticing the stuttering. But 1. maybe it indeed has to do with the video conversion (but in that case everyone should see the stutters…?) and 2. since I don't have stutters on my PC right now I am sure I won't get them with 2.2 since everything seems to have improved. So it's not a real problem. I was just wondering about it. On my computer it is very obvious: you can see the trees down there don't pass by fluently but the movement is constantly paused for a millisecond. Maybe some people can indeed see this more clearly than others. (I wish I was one of them LOL)

Anyway, thanks for all the reports and tests, Rob! Much appreciated!!! :) I hope LM won't take too much time before they give us the update!

Do you see any increase in performance at night (<- sorry if that question sounds weird :P  )

Rob, in your conversations with LM have they mentioned how things are going with Nvidia and P3D driver tweaks?

Ken

Ah, glad I am not the only noticing the stuttering.

Did you download the source video file from the link I provided earlier to my google drive and then view it?  Interested to see if you still see stutters?

I'll disagree with you here, I see stutters when I don't lock my frame rate below what I know my system can handle.  I lock frame rates anywhere from 24 to 30 pending location, but I always record at 30 fps.  Obviously when I record at 30 fps and lock at 24 fps, there are going to be repeated frames so perhaps this is what some of you are seeing as stutters?

Out of curiosity, are you testing by way of a full, fresh installation of the v2.2 beta

There is no "fresh" install available ... it's the same process I go thru with each beta build, delete EXE/DLLs and replace with new, wipe out my programdata and appdata (local and roaming) ... per LM instructions.

Yes, please see here for settings used: http://www.robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html

No, did you download the source video file from my google drive (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw0Q-fAfEZwyd2VfUEZqenpJelE/edit?usp=sharing) to confirm you still see stutters?

If you cannot see what we are talking about when you watch the same video as us then you clearly cannot see micro stutters, they very visible to people who are susceptible to them. Like I said I tested downloads and streams on iPad, Mac and PC just to placate your theory, they were all the same.

Cheers, Andy.

To be honest, I think what you are calling stutters is just a low frame rate (this video is locked at 24 fps with fraps recording at 30 fps).  Maybe the better question to ask is what frame rate are you folks typically running at and what settings are you using to achieve those frame rates?  If you can post your settings similar to how I do here: http://www.robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html all 5 pages and NI (if you use NI) then please do and I'll test with those settings.

But again to clarify, my focus is VAS usage not frame rate performance.  I've used settings that I consider unrealistic (at a performance level) with Today's hardware ... but i used those setting simply to push VAS usage.  With the exception of whatever is going on at Aerosofts's Dublin, VAS usage has been drastically improved.

Cheers, Rob.
