Microsoft Flight Simulator 2014

Featured Replies

What is "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2014" I have been hearing about and how does it compare to FSX?

Thanks

Wilbert

A new flight simulator was announced yesterday, so its not an Aprils fools:

After years of waiting and the flight sim community having given up hope of a replacement for FSX being released, it has just been announced that a team has been put together to work on a new version of Flight Simulator!

The brief for the team is to make the first ‘APR’ (Assimulated Pilot Reality) Flight Simulator truly immersive using the latest technology like the virtual reality headset by Oculus Rift and Sony’s Playstation 4 headset combined with ‘glove tracking’ hardware for tracking hand, arm and finger movement. The user will be able to look around the cockpit as if they were really there, flick switches, move throttles and control the aircraft TOTALLY in the virtual world around them.

The scenery view out of the window will be real-world too as a deal has been agreed with Google to use the real world images from their street view technology and google earth images, which when combined with NASA satellite terrain data, presents a totally plausible 3D world. Every building textured to match its real world appearance and height to within 0.2 metre accuracy. This incredible technology has been developed for the US military but a ‘lower resolution’ 2.0 metre version has been approved for commercial use.

Those of you with low end PCs will still need to upgrade, but not as badly as the shift from FS9 to FSX. By combining two or more computers to spread the load and using all cores of modern multi-core machines plus the power of modern day graphics cards, the sim is expected to achieve frame rates in the twenties even on one moderate spec computer, and in the hundreds using multiple computers networked together!

Release date expected April 2016.

Now, depending on where that post exactly was made, it could well have been 1 April local time for the poster and still 31 March UTC...

Hmm...

I wonder what first ‘APR’ could mean? I'm betting Assimulated Pilot Reality is not the real answer.

Cheers

Now I wonder what APR could also stand for?

Sounds like a lot of wind to me...........seeing is believing.......

I'm calling this one an April Fool's joke too. Good one and shows a lot of imagination.

Thank you.
