May 2, 201412 yr Don't say "all of them". My bank account isn't primed that much. Looking for, maybe, top 5 or so. I'd certainly like to buy more but you're in and out of them so fast, it's hard to get a huge bang for the buck. I mostly fly PNW. I have Redding and all the freeware ones including the Global freeware. Thanks! Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. May 2, 201412 yr My pick, without thinking too deeply about it: 77S Hobby 3W5 Concrete Darrington Muni Starks Twin Oaks Swanson Walter Sutton's (the only grass strip worth having, in my opinion) I personally wouldn't buy another grass strip given that the standard of the Orbx regions default strips are very good. EDIT: Having thought more deeply about it......Good luck! There are so many good ones. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
May 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member Just get two at a time, fly between them for a bit, then tomorrow, get another two. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
May 2, 201412 yr Check out that vast number of ORBX box clearout sales. Pick the ones that suit your taste and currently are on offer. If that's still too many, check out those addon locations in your FTX region, and compare what you see to the addon airport screenshots: On some occasions you'll think they are worth the purchase, on other occasions, the region will be sufficient for you. What happened to AVSIM
May 2, 201412 yr I guess it depends on which Orbx region or regions that you already have. If PNW, I suggest you get some that you can fly between to make it more interesting. Probably all are worth buying if the sale price is right. My suggestion is 0S9 Port Townsend, and 2WA1 Diamond Point just a few miles away. This will give you 3 total airports, (one grass with 2AW1) with a little water in between. The coast lines are so much better with the airports. Some of the airports are not necessarily outstanding but the surrounding areas are a huge improvement. This would be KBVS, 74S and maybe KORS (better than the other two) I use KBVS as a base airport for the area. I also have S43 in the neighborhood and 3W5, 1S2 and 2S1. My all time favorite is S45 Siletz Bay on the Oregon coast and if you get that one you may look at 7S3 Starks Twin Oaks for the second one in the general area. If you have the region already, then Felts at Spokane is outstanding - look at KSFF. Same for KJAC Jackson Hole. Both have very large coverage areas that are well done. That new A2A C172 Trainer of yours will fit nicely with these recommendations. Of course the Flight1 Citation will also handle those with a little over 3,000 feet of runway and no obstacles. I fly the Baron and F1 Mustang into S45 all the time. Southern Alaska has a few good ones as well. Make sure you get all the freeware one. Some are as good or better than some of the payware one. May 2, 201412 yr The first recommendation I would make is to aquire all of the Orbx Regions. I think the region packages provide the best value and greatest amount improvement to the FSX environment. If you don't have CRM (Central Rocky Mountains) or the Alaska (PFJ, SAK, Tongass [not Orbx] ) regions you are missing some great addon scenery that is a blast to explore in Flight Simulator. You asked specifically about Orbx airports. I am a bit of an Orbx addict and have quite a few. There is one Orbx developer whose airports I always get and more importantly that I frequently return to. If Jarrad Marshall is the developer then it is almost always an automatic "buy" for me. Here are my favorites KSFF Felts Field KJAC Jackson Hole KBZN Bozeman YBRM Broome YBCS Cairns Orbx has transformed FSX for me and it is hard to fly outside their regions. A few of us are currently touring the Northern California region in multiplayer. You are more than welcome to join us if you would like. May 2, 201412 yr The only one I use regularly is KORS.. but then again, I fly out of Vancouver Island airports.. Bert
May 2, 201412 yr Author I have NRM, PNW and NCA...not CRM. I also have KSFF (KSFF is why I got NRM, though, I have to admit I've done precious little flying up there). I look at CRM and scratch my head: it's big but there's not much there...it always seems like it would be a bland place to fly. That's why I didn't get it. Bowerman and Jackson Hole look really nice if I do end up going that route. NCA is brilliant. I've been looking at 77S...close enough to Redding to fly to. I've also been a fan of the KORS scenery for as long as I can remember. As you guys allude to, getting the airports in the same vicinity is a good idea. For me, with all these sceneries, it seems like the areas around the airports is much more important than the airport itself, if that makes sense. May 2, 201412 yr CZST Stewart Airport is simply a work of art. Only problem is that it's in the middle of nowhere. KJAC Jackson hole is a worthy buy, imo. edit: err mevermind, I realize that you are only flying PNW, these would be for NRM and CRM. May 2, 201412 yr I have most of the PNW airports..but the only one I use for the most part is KBVS..cause this is a fairly large size airports and I am tending towards airliners more and more... If GA flying is you cup of team then you are spoilt for choice. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Gregg KHQM is great for the price free haha but if performance is a concern stay away from KBVS ,s43 harvey field and Monroe first air they bring my system to it knees one of the best I've found is KCMW and 11s. Also Walter stuttons is nice ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
May 2, 201412 yr Author Okay, I got 77S Hobby, KORS and KBVS. First impressions from a couple quick flights: 77S is an upgrade but not sure it's worth that much $$? I took some screenshots from the pattern before I upgraded it. The biggest difference seems definitely after you land...some nice stuff. Also, the add-on airport is supposed to be unpaved, I thought. Meh...not a big deal. KORS...somewhat better than 77S. Still, pretty pricey. Took a screenshot at pattern alt there too. Thought there'd be more difference there. Again, need to get to know it on the ground. The things I like the most are the boats and people. KBVS...I didn't take a screenshot there but this has a real airport feel to it and a real upgrade. The treelines off in the distance, even from above you can see it's done well. Seems like the best for the $. Framerates were fine at all of them. I'll get to know them better over time and learn what more there is to like. Gregg Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. May 2, 201412 yr I bought Orcas, Walter Sutton's farm and Goheen this last week and so far Walter Sutton's is my absolute favourite. I haven't flown around Orca too much yet so I'm still holding my verdict on that one. Goheen was a little bit disappointing, maybe because I liked Walter Sutton's so much more. That little grass field just oozes with atmosphere, everything about it is what I love the most with Orbx GA airfields. Early morning, a little misty, you crank up that little Continental engine on the A2A J-3 inside the small DIY hangar (yes, the GA parking spot is in the hangar) as you watch the sun slowly rising over the mountains. Hear the birds tweeting and you can almost smell fresh hay in the air as you taxi out on to the "runway". So yeah, as Ron said, want a cosy grass airfield? get Sutton's no doubt. I've been eyeballing Cushman Meadows a bit too, looks great but how is performance? Also, any recommendations on any other "cosy" PNW airfields (doesn't have to be grass field)?
May 2, 201412 yr Cushman Meadows? Nice, interesting approach, quirky additional strip which runs across a bridge! But not a real world airport. Performance? It just sits there. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
May 3, 201412 yr Author Just wanted to follow up. Took some more flights around these airports. I guess the trick is to understand that, for these airports where the coverage area is smaller, the detail up close is better. Personally, I gravitate towards the airports with more coverage (e.g. KRDD and KSFF). But, looking at these airports and surrounding areas with a careful eye, you get what the creator was doing. At 77S and KORS, in perhaps a mile around the airport, the details are crisp. The buildings, ponds, shorelines and other landmarks are crisp and accurate. At 77S, that little strream to the side of the airport is just beautiful...well done. One would wish for streams and rivers like that all over FSX. I wish that they might have extended the coverage out on the extended runway centerlines...most certainly the area that you're going to fly over (that hill by the final to 77S would have been brilliant!). Ah, well. The coverage around KBFS is, somewhat, larger. So, they're not KSFF nor KRDD...they're something different. Pretty happy. Some cozy places to fly.
