June 5, 201411 yr Hi All, So today i decided i would update some drivers With that i didnt relise that it would actually turn off some of my settings in Nvidea inspector E.G - Frame rate limiter ( which i had set to 30 ) and it also had turned of my Maximum pre rendered Frames and set it to Use the 3D application setting. I have no idea why those settings changed by them selves. But without knowing what it had done i Started up FSX and was about to go for a casual Afternoon Fly! Where in the NGX sitting at ORBX YMML i was getting 40+ FPS When i got up to cruise, in the VC i was getting 40 - 60 FPS and in the wing views 150+ FPS. So it made me ask this question - Is it better to Have NVIDEA INSPECTOR lock my FPS to 30 ? Or let FSX run wild and free ? Any queries im happy to hear Kind Regards, Jack Dutton
June 5, 201411 yr I would lock FSX to 30 FPS and enable V-sync to 1/2 Refresh Rate (if your monitor is 60hz) in NI. This is what works best for me and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Its very smooth! George Kyriazis | www.georgekonline.com
June 5, 201411 yr Everyone's experience seems to vary, so I suggest trying completely unlocked, locking frames via Nvidia Inspector and try locking frames using the FSX limiter. See what works best for you. I would recommend keeping vsync turned on as that prevents screen tearing when rapidly panning your view. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
June 5, 201411 yr Keeping frames unlimited works best for me. I use NI because without it I noticed the scenery kinda shaking around when looking at different wing views. With NI this is gone and the sim is very smooth.
June 5, 201411 yr Unlimited every day of the week for me. Tried every possible combination and range of settings and always go back to unlimited. Higher frames and smoother.

Its very smooth! The same here, plus I don't have to stress anymore over irrelevant things like a frame rate dropping from 65 to 55, because it stays rock solid at 30, plus I didn't buy a simulator to stare at frame rates all day. June 6, 201411 yr Commercial Member It's amazing how so many different things work for so many different people. I generally lock my frames to 30 and use the 'v-sync to 1/2 refresh rate' option in NI as well. Runs smooth enough that I haven't worried about framerates for quite some time, regardless of weather, scenery, or location. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
June 6, 201411 yr Moderator Unlimited every day of the week for me. Tried every possible combination and range of settings and always go back to unlimited. Higher frames and smoother. Unlimited here too when flying heavy metal and locked at 30 when flying less demanding g/a planes. Unlimited has always worked better for me in heavy metal at complex a airports with lots of AI. I can usually maintain greater than 25 for in those situations and smooth. If I try the same thing locked in those situations I usually will get 20 fps or less and not smooth. August 5, 201411 yr Hello all. I'm new to AVSIM! I've used FSX for a long time and recently upgraded my system to a i7-4770, 16 GB RAM with a NVIDIA 620 (sub par...I know). While I have much better performance and graphics than on the laptop I used before, I want to increase FPS. I have tweaked the settings in FSX a little and seen some improvements, but how are some of you guys getting 30, 40, 50 FPS? With maxed out settings I get a stuttered 15-20 FPS most of the time...worse when inclimate weather is introduced. Any suggestions would help.
August 6, 201411 yr The best advice I found somewhere was to ignore the FPS reading (turn off the FPS display) if FSX is running smoothly! That is what I try to do now unless I have some specific problem that I want to monitor. Bill
