"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2

Featured Replies

Just one more?

Avsim is leading a conglomerate of fsx developers including pmdg, aerosoft, a2a and hi fi who have bought the flight simulator franchise. Bill gates actually outbid them but due to a comical sequence of events involving 3 apples, a milkshake and a cat, the arbitrators of the bidding process misread bill's offer as being their lunch receipt and so our heroes won out.

Elementary

If you have AI traffic off, don't use ATC, use weather themes, and don't use the flight planner, are any of those features really affecting performance? The globe still exists in Flight, but no landclasses or objects are applied. Even still, a region you are not in is not going to be loaded in FSX, so flying in Hawaii in FSX is the same as not having any other scenery in the world.

To be fair, traffic does quite substantially affect performance, at least in my system it does. Random question but what is the difference in terms of complexity in what iracing simulates and what fsx simulates? On one I get over 100fps with all the bells and whistles, the other erm not anywhere close.

I like my 3-some. Disney can have their own Ice Age release using Aerosoft's Antarctia and used as demo for Orbx.

I would be surprised if MS sold the rights to MS Flight without some language preventing it's porting to any other consoles. MS has been losing the "war" between the XBox1 and the PS4, at least in terms of both hardware and app sales. I don't think that they have any affection for Nintendo either.

I wouldn't be absolutely certain that microsoft as a corporate body even remembers what fsx is, let alone cares if it's on a Nintendo or not. I think in the time of bill gates and that other chap it might have held a bit of a place in their hearts, but definitely not anymore.

Maybe some rich flightsimmer passed and his estate purchased the franchse in trust for the community.

Is it me or does Mathijs have a lot of class - I have noticed throughout His posts in the Aerosoft forums - just a thought

Picture a large conference room with all the top dogs from PMDG, Aerosoft, ORBX, Majestic, Real Air, Carenado, FlyTampa, A2A, Milviz, Eaglesoft, Quality Wings, FlightSimLabs, Flight 1, FSDreamteam, FlightBeam, Sunskyjet, Pete Dowson, HiFi Tech, Opus, etc, etc and of course, Tom Allensworth.

Richard Branson walks into the room, pulls a cord and millions of dollars in cash rain down from the false ceiling onto the table.

He just smiles and says:

"Let's build a flight simulator"

I like Train Sim but the DLC model is absolutely horrible. Total cost for all the DLC is over $2,000.

Which is still less than I've spent on FSX  :P

I don't go there often, but yes he comes across as a very classy act, even going back to his Lago days and how he handled that problem. He is a real asset to both Aerosoft and the simming community at large and appears to be very forward thinking.

I agree. He's one if the few leading figures in the flight sim game that doesn't seem to have borderline personality disorders

Oh boy....may be Google

Freeware developer Pompeii, Italy and Mount Vesuvius (pompeii_italy.zip) and A380 Flight plans (ai_a380_flightplans_redux.zip).

Thanks for your thoughts Guys - very professional in all of His replies - I respect that - ok I'm done lol

Oh I forgot, the other random thought I had was that the buyer is one Mr William Gates

Or perhaps another billionaire familiar to both Microsoft and aviation. Anyone remember Paul Allen, the gentleman who actually collects warbirds?

And he's also involved in technology business ventures.

He would make more sense to me than Mr. Gates or Mr. Branson.

Then again, I'm probably way off target. Interesting to see what actually happens, if anything.

I think if you managed to get all those developers in a room together it wouldn't be long before there was blood on the walls

Then somebody could mention the EULA.... and Tom would get up on the table in his gladiator outfit and start screaming "Are you not entertained?"

If nothing else it would probably go viral on Youtube.
