Totally agree - no brainer IMO

60 fps or the same as your monitors refresh rate is amazing in FSX - and the difference is quite noticeable compared to 30 fps. This assumes both instances are smooth and stutter free.

Rob, the default Clouds in P3d V2.3 , are they real 3D and volumetric ?  Are REX also 3D clouds, or REX is 2D high resolution flat textures?

The wait for a new PC is torture! It's been two weeks now, but hopefully I should be getting it this week. It is apparently in testing, so fingers crossed! I will make a final decision regarding P3D when it arrives, but the chances are high that I will be forking out another $60

It's only £35 after conversion!

If you don't like it there is a no quibble 90 day refund policy

True but refund will not be needed - he will not be going back to the crashing mess fsx is

FSX worked well on my old PC, but I am keen to see how much better P3D handles VAS management. Then there are the real time shadows in the VC, cloud shadows, and (hopefully) less of a "washed out" look to the terrain in broad daylight. I never totally enjoyed flying at noon in FSX because the world just looked too bright (even with a completely overcast sky). Hopefully, P3D will be better in that department.

Anyway, as others keep saying, P3D is a "work in progress". There will always be improvements and fixes, which is something that will not happen with FSX. I am slightly concerned about compatibility with some of my existing addons, but I think it's time for me to accept some compromises, and then work from there.

Can someone running FSX at 60 fps with everything maxed out in the same location (Chales De Gaulle) with overcast and similar AA/AF settings at 2560 x 1600  with the same Orbx add-on and CS L1011, please post a video?  -- and not a 1/4 speed one, I know what to look for ;)

Maybe I just never figured out FSX settings?  But my experience in the same location (with fewer add-ons, Vector and OpenLC EU wasn't around back when I was using FSX) with less visuals (no HDR, tess, or cloud shadows, etc. etc.) and I got about 14-20 fps in FSX and then it would OOM about 10-15 minutes later.  Only way I could get around the OOM in FSX was to drop LOD to 4.5 and reduce AutoGen.

I thought I was pretty good at getting the most out of FSX, but apparently not ... but would really like to see ... I typically don't like making platform comparisons but folks seem intent on it.

Cheers, Rob.

I don't understand it either Rob, it turns into a pissing contest with a "my sim is better than your sim" attitude.

If a simmer is happy with what they are running (FSX/P3D/XPLANE) then just get on with it quietly and enjoy it.

Clouds (both P3D and REX) are flat and 2D. You can turn on volumetric fog though. How well that works depends on your PC.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'll be driving through the Show Me state tomorrow.  I'll ask them too.

LM have made changes to the cloud system ... I unfortunately don't know the extent of those changes.  The cirrus clouds to feel more "volumetric" but it could just be my imagination or it could be some adjustments they did to make them seem less 2D (well not really 2D).   Cirrus is certainly still 2D, not sure about Stratus.

The Fog does look like it has changed, it seems to have greater variance (less flat) and far less performance impact.

Cheers, Rob.

Umm.I havnt had a crash with fSx for yrs. Ive had for more R6205 errors with the professional sim P3d.

Rendi - I think I had that once but it was an unstable overclock - after I resolved it - P3D has been solid and I have put it thru its paces especially after all of the starts to check my repaint progress
