P3D V2.3 Beta 2 Testing

Featured Replies

I have used FB KDEN in v2.2 and I didn't notice those issues ... however, I have not spent much time at that airport.  If you can get Humberto or Mir to get me an updated couatl.exe and bglmanx.dll that will work in my v2.3 beta 2, I'd be happy to test it out for you.

Cheers, Rob.

You have to be at a very low angle with camera to the aircraft to see this - you may not have ever tried that - Mir is looking into it Monday - I have pretty much ran out of things to try other than uninstalling all my addons - this only happens on the concourse - does not happen lets say on runways at FB KDEN

Here you go Rob - 60 fps over FB KDEN - 512 cloud entry into cfg. file I think your on to something it was almost like they were not loaded - excellent

Oh that looks VERY nice!  Good to know that setting works in v2.2 also ... you will see cloud shadows edge are less defined but IMHO that's sorta how they look real world.  You can probably bump up the ground shadow value to 1024 (leave clouds at 512) and not notice much of an fps hit.

Trying to debate if I want to do the AXE or iFly 737 ... I don't have a short/medium range commercial jet.

Cheers, Rob.

AXE no brainer - just keep in mind controls setup takes a bit to setup correctly - detents are very touchy you may have to call on me to pass on some settings

I used migration tool also to install the AXE like most of my stuff actually

Hello Rob,

You wrote in post #245 default value for terrain shadows is "2048". So a setting of 1024 for ground shadows means a reduction of the shadow resolution.

Nevertheless I think diffuse shadows of the clouds will look more real. So I will try the 512 value for the cloud shadows, too.

By the way: What do you think about the distance slider of the cloud shadows? Are there very noticable performance differences between the different options? I saw in your screenshots that you use a full right setting for the cloud shadows. I use the lowest setting at the moment.

Thanks for sharing this tweak.

Patric

Edit: Ok, I think you refered to your "initial" tweak setting on post #245 with a "512" value for the terrain shadows. So a "1024" value would be an increasement.

Hi Rob, if you go for the AXE (which I also strongly recommend) you might want to wait a little bit as Aerosoft is about to release the A318/319 probably by the end of this month if all goes well, and then a bit later the A320/A321 which will be like an updated AXE but clearly an all new product considering the features list, the biggest one being a weather radar !

As Richard said the co-pilot option is great, and for these new products they will include several voice packs with different languages (well, all in spoken english with a different accent and a few sentences in the native language). For the little story I did the "french accent" recordings for the PIlot Flying, can't wait to hear the results :-)

You have all the info here: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/82081-airbus-projects-preview/

PS: thank you for all your posts/videos on the beta status, I rarely post but I read a lot ;-)

also I just luv the immersion the AXE offers with the co-pilot experience just amazing - wish all my heavies had this offering  :)

You can, everybody can.

The program is Multi Crew Experience (see my signature) a truncated version of which is used in the AXE. The Ultimate version covers most of the payware aircraft you are likely to own including the Dash 8 and shortly the 777. Works with default ATC, Pro Flight Emulator and Radar Contact. Installer covers FS9, FSX and P3Dv2.2.  I'm just a happy user.  Check out the dedicated forum here under Commercial. IMHO it is well and truly superior to the other well-known competitor.  You can modify it to suit yourself using scripts.  Highly recommended.

looks great but yikes 80 dollars - will this work like the axe as in I do not use voice control it will flow along like the axe version - as it works for CS777 thats good and it seems it works in P3D - Thanks for the heads up

I haven't used cloud shadows yet due to performance issues. However, in the screenshot in #254 it seems that the shadows don't properly cover the airport runways and taxiways.

It can be seen on some parts but most of the time they seem to be cut off were the tarmac starts. Is this new to V2.3 or due to some of the settings being tested?

I tried P3d when it came out and went back to fsx.

Now I have a new PC coming next week(in sig) thinking of coming back to it when 2.3 is out and installers fixed for 2.3. But the one thing I hated was not having full screen, not windowed full screen or the bottom windows task bar showing but true full screen. Is that possible now? I bought the academic version.

I watch frogles thoughts on 2.2 and even he said about the windows task bar showing at bottom as odd.

You can have the taskbar automatically hide until you drop your mouse cursor down there. But P3D can cover the entire screen just like like full screen mode.

So a setting of 1024 for ground shadows means a reduction of the shadow resolution.

That is correct ... it's a compromise between performance and visuals as are most of the graphics related settings.

This one has me a little confused, 80,000 seems to perform better than 30,000 in "most" situations, not all.  I need to investigate what is going on here.

Hi Rob, if you go for the AXE (which I also strongly recommend)

I actually already purchased the AXE some time ago and had just forgotten I had it ... downloaded the latest installer and installed, FPS are VERY good, had to make some changes to get the Throttle working with my TQ6, but that's sorted out now.

However, in the screenshot in #254 it seems that the shadows don't properly cover the airport runways and taxiways.

That's a Richard question for v2.2 (that's his screenshot) ... I currently can't confirm since KDEN is not functional in my 2.3 beta.  But cloud shadows were functional of default airport Charles de Gaulle.

Not sure what you mean by this?  I'm not aware of any installer issues going back to 2.0?

It will always be "window mode" as long as multiple monitors are supported ... I've never had an issue with the task bar showing but you need to make sure you select the option in the Graphics settings screen "Black-out Desktop" and "Auto-fill Main View" see image:

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Rob,

Sorry need ask in a bit more depth.

I do use two screens, one above the other, best explain in fsx and the NGX. The main screen the nornal VC view. The lower screen blacks out after fsx loads, I then drag the pop up FMS etc to bottom screen.

Not sure if you would describe this as multi screen as the VC scene is not over two screens. But within fsx not bars or task bars show it's "full screen"

From your SS above I do not remember "black out screen" or "auto fill" but it has been some time. I hope I have explained that well?

Could this work the same in 2.3? I really hate windowed in any mode.

Thanks for you help Rob

I am not using multiple monitors but I would bet its even easier in P3D hence you will not need to worry about windowed mode at all - P3D screen process is much better than fsx - its very cool for instance I do not have to go to window mode anymore to bring up ezdok or accu-feel studios

Odd, the textures for shadows being at 512 provides the OPPOSITE effect compared to any other game/simluation.

Usually the lower the resolution, the more blocky the edges are. The higher, the smoothher.

But p3d is providing the desired result on the LOWEST setting, which is odd. The default setting is quite blocky.

Hi Ryan,

Your speed and relative motion (panning views and/or TrackIR) is the primary relationship or need of FPS.

This was demonstrated here: https://frames-per-second.appspot.com/ -- set the velocity low (50px/s on both balls) and the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps will not be noticeable.  However, increase the velocity to 100 px/s and the difference between 30 and 60 fps does become noticeable.

That's great in a small display but 30 vs 60 in FSX for very distinguishable.  I'm just saying for the people who don't believe 60fps is overkill.... well it isn't.  I certainly can't run at 60fps most of the time in either sim (or XP for that matter) but the difference is nice at least for my eyes!
