737 NGX weather radar

Featured Replies

Maybe they should ask the guys over at I-Fly. They have had one working in their 737 for some time now.

Does it  show  the actual rain like per  the t7  weather  radar

No, it does not.  Never has.  We all know who the first company was to come up with something like this.  iFly is not it, nor is it Majestic (theirs is actually pretty terrible).  Heck, even RXP's radar was just a cloud map.

...but they all look pretty, and the average simmer doesn't have a clue in the slightest of what weather radar is actually there to do, so if you paint random colors on the display then OMG IT MUST BE REAL!!!

If you can implement it in the T7 it won't be rocket science to do so in the 737? If it's a different code Ok, but why is PMDG so lousy in communicating?! Many of us are waiting for years. Of course you can say a few months extra won't hurt but communicate! PMDG is great in simulation. less in communication!

Lousy in communicating what?  They've clearly stated that SP2 will get a weather radar multiple times.  They've also very clearly stated that SP2 was meant to incorporate some of the enhancements learned and incorporated in the 777.  I'm not sure if that's a failure to communicate, or a failure to listen...

Nice edit there.  The email that hits my inbox when people quote me contains the original text, by the way.

To address the part of the text that got edited out: it has nothing to do with defense.  It has everything to do with my own wish to keep people accountable for doing their own due diligence.  This is only accented by the fact that you literally just said "communication on WHEN it's going to be released," because if you know anything about anything, you'd know that PMDG doesn't give release dates.

I'll do that for anyone, honestly.  Doesn't matter what developer.  If people are making poor points, I'll step in and defend them.  I'd do it for you, too, if someone misquoted you.

It's been stated more than a few times that this is intended to be in SP2.

I thought everyone knew that?

haha - I think a lot of people know lots of stuff, but I'm usually not too surprised when I find out that assumption was incorrect.

As in, I'm pretty sure I'm going to come home to some neighbors complaining that their cars got towed, even though there's been a sign at the entrance to our community about re-paving for two weeks.

I've been using Bryn's radar gauge in conjunction with ASN in multiple aircraft and it works great. Not as "pretty" as a in-panel 3D radar, but all the functionality is there.

I am not familiar with the latest generation of 737 cockpits but what else does the latest real versions have that is missing from the current cockpit layout of the PMDG 737 NGX apart from the obvious one of weather radar? If the 737NGX is the best selling product for PMDG then I think an update could be encouraged from the masses? (has it been that?) If the I am in the minority then I will do a disappearing act like Major Major Major of Catch 22 fame?

Do you mean Maj. Major Major Major?

Different movie, but that kinda reminded me of this:

That's nice to know. I was thinking it might be in SP2,but never checked the forums for this in particular.

@Kyle

I wasn't asking for a release date but why isn't PMDG telling their costumers that they are working on SP2 (if they are???) or that they made progress etc. That is communicating! So far I can't find anything yet in all the PMDG forums. So instead of using big words like defending etc you could also answer in a normal way like my message and it has nothing to do with not listening.

I would like to remind the above average simmer that there is no rain in FS. It is a virtual (imaginary) representation. So all any program can do is generate random colors as rain, turbulance, hail, whatever so you can pretend it is real. So you see Kyle, the showers are in your head. Now Kyle, tell us true. Did you rat out your neighbors and have their cars towed? For some reason this would not surprise me in the least.

This is actually false because of the way ASN has implemented its rain feature.  This is what allows them to create a realistic weather radar.  While you're right that the rain isn't actually there in the sim far ahead of you, ASN triggers the effects to coincide with the rain cells it creates in its own rendering, which is tied to the radar (that's my understanding of it, anyway).

Regardless, the main point is this:

When there's a return on your radar, there's rain in the sim with ASN.  This is not true for other developers, which means that they haven't created a radar - they've created trash eye candy.

Nice shot at me, too, but you should really try harder.  I actually consider towing to be a backwards legal form of theft, so I would never have someone towed.  In fact, people mistakenly park in my spot all the time and I just take a visitor spot until they move.  I might be somewhat of a jerk here on the forum, but being a jerk here isn't costing someone $150 + storage fees.  Constantly being on people's cases for being information leeches, or propagating false information is one thing.  Smacking someone with financial loss is quite another.  One encourages people to do better (in an admittedly rough way), while the other is just being evil...

Sorry Kyle. That was uncalled for. When it comes to aviation and simming I guess I try to leech information where ever I can learn. You seem a knowledeable young man. I might just add IFLY uses ASN on their WX radar. I have both but primarily use NGX and use the ASN panel for WX radar. God Bless and watch where  you park.
