August 26, 201411 yr Commercial Member Hi Ed, There's a lot going on with the water development at LM, and we're staying on top of that as well, especially in our next update due out shortly. This is the sort of thing we have all been waiting for. Leading third party development shops that will create innovative content specific to the modernized platform will eventually give us an experience that will take flight Sim to a new level. August 26, 201411 yr Keep this in mind. REX recommends that the mesh resolution be set to 1 m for their wave animations to work properly. See page 11 of the REX 4 Texture Direct Users Guide. I hope they can work around this. Many add-on sceneries, especially OrbX, absolutely requires a mesh resolution of 5m. -

August 26, 201411 yr I hope they can work around this. Many add-on sceneries, especially OrbX, absolutely requires a mesh resolution of 5m. Hmmm...I thought that was a minimum of 5m for ORBX? gb. August 26, 201411 yr Hmmm...I thought that was a minimum of 5m for ORBX? gb. I had my P3D mesh set to 1m, but that resulted in holes in a few Orbx airports (mostly in the runways) . . . including a parking spot where my Cessna was parked in the bottom of a trench. Setting the mesh to 5m fixed these issues. I'm not sure how much of Orbx scenery requires the 5m setting, but I would really like to see them switch to a 1m standard for their P3D compatible scenery. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
August 26, 201411 yr ... That or LM makes the water setting independent.. Or allows ultra in the 5mesh range as well. ..but your suggestion is more ideal.
August 26, 201411 yr I recall ORBX saying that you must have the mesh set to no finer than 5m for several of their payware airports. Or allows ultra in the 5mesh range as well. . The real solution is for ORBX to fix their airports so that using a better mesh setting doesn't reveal defects in the airport scenery.
August 26, 201411 yr I thought that there was something wrong with the water textures in P3D, even after updating with REX Essential Plus. Everything looked static and, well......crap. Then I moved the Special Effects and Advanced Animation sliders from Medium to FULL, and all was revealed  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
August 27, 201411 yr Unfortunately, I have just realised that the wave animation can only be seen at very low altitude with light winds. That's fine, except that the "preset crests and troughs" look of the water texture results in a very static look at higher altitude, and that's because of the lack of white caps to go with it. Animated white caps at altitude would do wonders for the look of the water. August 27, 201411 yr Curious.. with wave animation.. has anyone tried simulating wake turbulence (i think requires ASN).. behind a jet/aircraft that just lands on a strip near water.. in real life, its my understanding, you can see the wake turbulence effect on the water, just before the runway.. it would be very interesting if this can be simulated (via wave animation).. i know it is simulated in general with ASN (again, i think requires ASN to have the effect work in general?).. August 27, 201411 yr None of my aircraft have rear view mirrors, how can I see if this is happening? One way in theory would be by trailing behind a landing aircraft in front of you. Though yea maybe a spot view behind the aircraft would show up(on the water). I'll have to give that a try. Though I doubt they have programmed anything that detailed as of yet. August 28, 201411 yr This is great news. Now I'm curious about what LM has up their sleeves as well, regarding the water. Jazz Water is going to squirt out the speaker ports, and will splash you in the face.... when a wave gets over three feet.... Hmmm...I thought that was a minimum of 5m for ORBX? gb. Nope..go 2m or 1m and you will see craters at some airports....10m and 5m fixes that...
