Running fsx I always did to free up resources - took me a bit to realize aero needed to be on - difference was day and night

Good question, I'm not so sure that FSX disables Aero. I always got a message stating somethoing about it wasdnt able to use its or some of it's features and was disabling it. Probably unticked the warning box years ago. ? Or some other older apps will disable it. just went to 100% P3D so its no longer installed

Rich, I believe that the first thing FSX does...is disable Aero....does it not?  Then, when you exit FSX, Aero is returned to the Desktop.

Aero is returned to the Desktop

Or is it? Something disabled mine and it didnt automatically enable it.

No Sir it does not - all manual operation

No it does not. I had it disabled because 'm pretty sure it's part of Nick N's guide when setting up windows initially. It free's up resources when combined with other tweaks.

Can anyone comment on some settings to help reduce shimmer in the default Carenado Bonanza in p3d? I have tried everything, for some reason DSR 1.5 causes bad stutters, but it did clear it up. I can't figure out how to stop the stuttering. It also seems to make things blurrier like runways.

DSR ended my sttuters for good, now runs very smooth :)

Rich, my Aero gets disabled by FSX, and then when I drop to the Desktop, it is enabled again.

I start FSX and anything else that I want running (TrackIr5, Aivlasoft EFB etc.) and start Windows Aero with the enabler which can be downloaded at Softpedia.  I haven't been able to keep Aero running via the Windows "Personalize" UI unless I use the enabler.

You may want to check in  the Computer management\Service and set Desktop Window Management (DWM.exe) and set to Automatic. I had to do this to keep Aero enabled when booting. Dont know how it was disabled.

FSX turning aero off when it starts (assuming aero is on before FSX starts) and FSX turning aero back on when it closes is definitely the default behavior.

If you're talking about enabling Aero right click on the desktop and click personalize then windows Aero theme. If you're talking about DSR then actually read the rest of the thread, especially first page or two.
