October 31, 201411 yr Author I'm getting constant 'fatal errors' when going from windowed to full screen, while I'm at higher resolution in the sim ( currently 1.5 x Native ). I'm then dumped back to my desktop, which is now also 1.5 x native, and I have to get back to 1920x1080 using Nvidia Control Panel. At the moment, because this keeps happening, I can't experiment with settings at all Paul, it is hit and miss, going from ALT-ENTER Full Screen to Window, back to Full Screen (can do this all day in FS9) with DSR running the show. Not always, but will expect perhaps a CDT as you describe at any time. I don't have a solution at this time either, but just wanted you know that it is not user-specific to your system. What I do to avoid this...is at the P3D or FSX start-up screen where you can see your saved flight...change your flight..blah, blah..., I have all my add-on (Traffic Manager, etc) on my Start Bar. I wait until either P3D or FSX gets to this screen, and then I run ASN, Traffic Manager, whatever...and then bring up my F.B.0. Doing this...I avoid having to go out of Full Screen...and hence, no CTD's...until I close the show down. Mitch I am a bit confused with this DSR , Geforce Website says supported GPU's GTX 980/ GTX 970 . However lots of people posting thay have installed and their cards are not these two. I run 680GTX over 3 screens and have the 344.48 driver installed (Clean instal) but not installed the 3D driver and the geoforce experience I go to Global settings in the nvidia control panel and have no option listed for DSR. IS my card compatible? Anyone know? if yes what am I doing wrong? Cheers cheers You can run this driver to have DSR for any 500 series and up, nVidia graphics card. Folks are reporting, using a 500 series card...great results!
October 31, 201411 yr Mitch, sounds like a plan. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I switched from windowed to full screen once, and liked what I saw, but since then, CTDs every single time, and so I'm back at native res. Thanks for the advice. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
October 31, 201411 yr Commercial Member Robert, thanks for the Dropbox tip, and will investigate it later, but here are the GLOBAL settings I use for the nVidia Control Panel: Ambient Occlusion: Off Anisotropic filtering: 16 Antialising-FXAA: Off Antialasing-Gamma Correction: On Antialiasing-Mode: Overide any application setting Antialiasing-Setting: 4X Antialiasing-Transparency: 2X (supersample) CUDA-GPU's: All DSR-Factors: 1.5/2.0/4.0 (I use 2.0 as my DSR Default) DSR-Smoothness 33% Maximum pre-rendered frames: Use the 3D application setting Multi-display/misced-GPU acceleration: Single display performance mode Powermanagement mode: Prefer maxium performance Shader Cache: On Texture filtering-anisotropic sample optimization: Off Texture filtering-Negative LOD bias: Clamp Texture Filtering-Quality: High quality Texture filtering-Trilinear optimization: On Threaded optimization: Auto Triple buffering: Off Vertical Sync: Use the 3D applications settings Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames: 1 On the Program Settings tab, under Prepar 3D: The only setting not using my Global Settings as slaved, is the following one: Antialiasing-Transparency: 4X (supersample) to match the setting in P3D -------------------------------------------------------------------- P3D v2.4 settings, All sliders to the full right and checkboxes checked except for the following: 1. I have all water features turned on below the slider except for terrain reflections. 2. I have terrain shadows turned off, as this feature is still broken in v2.4 as is also in v2.3 3. I have the traffic slider at 50 percent, on Commercial, and 0 percent on VFR. DSR is set internally to 2.x in the res box, which on my monitor plays in the sandbox at: (2715x1697) on a native 1920x1200 Samsung 25in wide-screen, single monitor set-up. 16 for ANIS 4X for MultiSample 4. I have Vsync not engaged, and FPS as 'unlimited' I use a 3rd party FPS limiter setting of 33 FPS in the latest Precision 16X Graphics Card controller from EVGA Ltd. Thats it, have the sim full out in all other options, but the aforementioned reductions Are the specs in your profile up to date? Those are some very aggressive settings! What FPS are you averaging with a complicated airplane addon such as the NGX, AS A318, etc? Thanks! Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
October 31, 201411 yr not installed... the geoforce experience I believe that is the issue. I've read numerous posts on the NVidia and DCS forums indicating GeForce Experience install is a necessary enabler. When I did it, I didn't mess around, I just installed it. What I'm curious about is if I can uninstall it now that DSR is enabled. ;-) [email protected] - ROG Strix Z790-E - 2X16Gb G.Skill Trident DDR5 6400 CL32 - MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X - WD SN850X 2 TB M.2 - XPG S70 Blade 2 TB M.2 - MSI A1000G PCIE5 1000 W 80+ Gold PSU - Liam Li 011 Dynamic Razer case - 58" Panasonic TC-58AX800U 4K - Pico 4 VR HMD - WinWing HOTAS Orion2 MAX - ProFlight Pedals - TrackIR 5 - W11 Pro (Passmark:12574, CPU:63110-Single:4785, GPU:50688)

I don't run a commercial cockpit in P3D, but in FSX, I do...iFly 737, and no drops in FPS with DSR.
November 1, 201411 yr Commercial Member Testing update: With GTX 560 and 1680x1050 native resolution I've got best results with 2.00x, 33% smoothness, and without AA in FSX. 10% FPS loss with these settings, but image is much sharper and smoother. There is no need for AA in any case, even with 2.00x. So with mediocre GPU these settings are way to go. I've tested also 4.00x, FPS loss about 30-40%, which is too much really. Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I played with 1.5 and 4.0, but as you have settled the dust at 2.0/33%. It is being left there, and what's so nice about DSR, as you found out, is that I can leave all N.I. settings to default, and just run with DSR across P3D.x,FSX, and FS9. It's sort of set 'n forget.
November 2, 201411 yr My i7-920 stable at 74C. I enabled DSR, with 2x and 33%. November 2, 201411 yr I guess it must be my monitor (40" samsung led) because to me DSR just makes everything look dull and less sharp to me. Smooth yes, but dull and blurry. I dont see the benefit. On final I cant even make out runway markings like I could without DSR because it is blurry.
November 2, 201411 yr The main issue addressed is shimmers and those are really painful on my system whenever the camera viewpoint moves. Anytime the airplane moves, I see shimmers. Perhaps the shimmers weren't so much of an issue for you to start with? On DX9 they weren't for me either, but DX10 is a different story. FSX is full of trade-offs. For me trading shimmers for slightly blurry display and maybe a small performance decrease is a win. It will not be so for everyone. Simon Hi Simon, Yup, I get crazy shimmers in DX10. I've gotten very used to it. I run DX10 without AA or Vsync. I did notice a significant improvement with DSR. I'm going to try again, this time at 2x/33%. I was at 1.5x when I did that short test. I guess I was expecting too much after reading some people's experiences. Let's see how it goes with 2x. On final I cant even make out runway markings like I could without DSR because it is blurry. Did you play around with the smoothing setting? Try running just 2x and very low smoothing. Like you, my first experience was not very good. I'm going to try again with different settings. Nature Boy
November 2, 201411 yr Hey Anobg, I'm also running Samsung TV (32) with P3D. Make sure your TV display mode is in pc mode, otherwise your graphics will look like crap. I found that by giving the PC Mode a name (any name will do), the specific mode will kick in nicely, and your graphics will be displayed exactly like on a normal pc monitor. Furthermore, I'm running DSR 3x native, which I found a good compromise between image quality and FPS loss.
November 2, 201411 yr Most of them (all that I've tried so far) look best with the sharpness set to 0 or somewhere very low. Running a calibration disc confirmed this on the 3 HDTV's I've used. A higher setting will mess with your colors, contrast and brightness. Nature Boy
November 2, 201411 yr 680gtx Confirmed works with 1 monitor, not with surround . Surround looks much better though so sticking with that , Dsr not for me yet 3080rtx on a i7 12700k with 32 Gig ddr5. 2gig Ssd Quest 2 Windows 11

You have control over the soft focus/smoothness effect. I am using it now also at 17 percent, and that seems to put the rubber to the road, as well.
