ORBX is working on a North America landclass product.  It think it was tentatively scheduled for release maybe the end of this year or early '15.  Looking forward to some nice landclass for the US!  I don't know of any others, I have never checked out the ones you mentioned.

I must be really old but been doing this for a long time. Are Scenery Tech and Xclass  not used  anymore? That is why I posted the question.I use Orbx Northwest scenery and like it ,but also like UTX and GEX.Different strokes for different areas.Nice to compare.I just ran UTX 2 with it's landclass without any other and it looked good.I was flying Florida east coast only.Just looking for other opinions. Thanks for the response.Ron

You dont use any landclass with this product as it is landclass I believe - if I am right you should not use any others - I have uninstalled my scenerytech

So if one has GLOBAL and then buys UTX v2...Then I assume that FTX USA Land class (when its available) will not be necessary?

I guess the question is how good is the LC in UTX USA really

ZORAN

Personally I think the landclass in UTX USA is the best there is. It has the most accurate urban and residential data I have seen, plus it has unique landclasses like industrial, shipping yards etc that other landclass products can't provide.

interesting. Im kind of annoyed they dont have Asia as I live in Thailand so, unless there is anything else out there I will have to buy vector

If memory serves... the original UTX only provided landclass in urban areas - that's why we used the "sandwich technique" to combine the UTX landclass with rural landclass from SceneryTech, FSGenesis, etc.  Does UTX v2 really provide a comprehensive landclass update?

The advertised feature set for UTX USA version 2 only mentions urban landclass, not vegetative, which is how version 1 was.

Right now I use Scenery Tech for the USA, which is arguably better than the default landclass.  I don't use UTX, so I need decently accurate urban landclass which Scenery Tech does a pretty good job of.  Its vegetative landclass is marginally better than default, but still pretty inaccurate in many areas.

Like many, I'm anxiously awaiting ORBX openLC North America, which I'm expecting to be released in the Feb-Mar 2015 time frame.

That is a good point - now you have me thinking and if your correct it gets even better - I will post at simforums to get the answer - thanks for the heads up :) actually fsgenesis LC for US is very good - I was using that over ST on last install - get back you on this off to Simforums

I just reinstalled all my legacy UTX products, and they all run great with FSX Global and Vector.  No issues.  All the great UTX features are back in FSX.

Well here is the answer in short yes for now you can use ST or whatever you use but read this - very cool - Orbx LC looks like its not an option as I will stay with this product as it is excellent

=============================================================================

The landclass has not changed in V2.........yet.

In fact, right now we are working on a brand new landclass for UTX Europe V2.0.    This will be a complete landclass and the cities should be very accurate as they will be catagorized based on some new commercial data that we now have access to.

We won't leave the UTX USA V2 customers out.   In the next couple of months we will do the same for the USA and will NOT charge an upgrade.

The new landclass should surpass any other available when it is ready, because of the data accuracy.  IMHO, the only way a developer could release a better product would be to classiify every single square inch by hand.   For reference, there are 66,049 separate landclass definitions for every single LOD5 cell.    UTX Europe has about 700,000 landclass definitions. So, you can imagine the chore to do these all by hand.  That is why having very accurate source data is a must ;)

Here is what I would suggest for users looking for a landclass upgrade.    If you have another product that you prefer for landclass (i.e. SceneryTech), go ahead and use it now.    But, just be aware that we are working on a complete landclass upgrade as we speak and it will not cost you extra.

I am the original poster .Now I see that this has gone full circle and UTX 2.0 does not have new LC?Using just UTX LC looks good without Scenery Tech NA or XClassUS.So back to personal preference, right? Thanks,Ron
