The new Flight Simulator X - for XBox 360 (???)

Featured Replies

I proposed this idea many years ago, and sent the idea to MS as well, but of course received no reply. Why not develop an XBOX that could interface with a current Windows PC and could . . .1. Utilize all control devices the PC can use (like you USB flight yoke, flight sticks, rudder, etc.) and . . .2. Output to a PC monitor, with resolutions of 1600x and above perhaps.Limiting XBOX to HD resolution is a very sad state of affairs. I don't like even going to 1280 x 1024, having been spoiled by the 1600x 4x AA I have been at now for years. The benefit of INTEGRATING XBOX and PC is that you could theoretically get the full benefits of a console with the unique benefits of the PC. You could even build a full-height bay version of an internal XBOX console. Simply insert your XBOX game and away your go . . . on your PC. Tell me now, would you have any quibbles about inserting a XBOX 360 into your machine, with its incredible specs, and still be able to park yourself in front of your very high quality PC screen and be able to connect with your flight yoke, etc, and thereby get the benefits of both worlds? You could even share files between XB's drive and your main system drives. A marriage made in heaven. I'd buy one tomorrow.Noel

I dont mean to call out on people but I am thinking of a few users that I remember who were beta testers for FS9 and find the lack of their input on a thread like this promising in the fact that they might be under that agreement thing by and already testing the next version.Kilstormbut I could be wrong.

See what I'm talking about... some other useless theories are being built up whereas there are facts, true facts for godsake!: something is going to be unveiled at the IFC. Why dont we stick to what we re sure of (and this info is as exciting as the other rumors that I read except it's definitely true this time.).Just my 2 cents

Just because they did a survey of PC users does not guarantee a PC version. There are currently no XBox users, so the PC users are the only ones to survey. It does stand to reason, however, that there will be a PC version as well. Might as well keep going an existing franchise. Then again, given how well FS9 is doing, they may start with XBox, concentrate their development resources there first, and then move onto the PC version. The longer they wait, the faster and stronger will be the PCs.Thomas

>IF FS moves to the Xbox, ill be moving to X-Plane.And I'll be right behind you. I run FS in two monitors on my desktop computer, plus various programs on my laptop. I also have my homemade throttle setup. I'd never be able to do that on an x-box. The whole scenerio is very unlikely though, so I'm not too worried about it.

If they try to make FS an XBOX only title, I think it will kill the series honestly. There is no way playing on a TV will be the same as the PC versions of the game and they would totally alienate their biggest fans in our enthusiast group here...The console looks awesome and I do think it's going to be seriously great, but NOT for Flight Sims...

Hmmmm.....XBOX 360 on the 52" HD TV.... Could be cool.Wireless, means my already established network could be used. 20 gb removable HD?, plug it in USB and download stuff or who knows what.Cell Phone Plug-ins, ATI Graphics... Sounds pretty good to me.Of course this means add on developers can charge $100 per add-on now. :-lol :-lolWell, I hope it is dual platform, PC and X-box360. It would open the market to more sim enthusiasts, and that can only be good for our genre.Wait and see, I guess, it is what it is....There better be a Madden release for it though, or I'm not buying it. ;-)Dear Microsoft..... I think you may be referring to the original XBox, in which case I agree. However the X360 (the next XBox) is a totally different beast. The thing has three G5 cores running 3.2GHz each, handling a total of six threads simultaneously. The GPU is an R500 chip, with embedded DRAM (a feature hardly available for mainstream PCs today). The R500 chip is "to have 10 times higher geometry and 4 times higher pixel performance compared to the RADEON X800 XT" and that

Noel,An additional info:According to the same sources I got the specs from, the XBox 360 will feature out-of-the-box connectivity (networking) with any PC running Windows XP, allowing file transfers/exchanging between systems...Emerson

<>There is ZERO chance that MS will not come out with a PC version of FS10 IMHO.What they are doing is BROADENING their market by extending it to a console version.Coke didn't say..."Hey, Diet Coke is the way to go because everyone is diet conscious...and then ELIMINATE the original version. MS will not do so either. The reason I will by the XBOX version is because I travel a lot so I can just pack my sim in my suitcase. I could do the same thing with my laptop but would not get nearly the graphics I imagine XBOX will be capable of.Regards,Jim

It seems many aren't up to date on the console world as of late. Anyone who thinks the XBox 360 can't be a good venue for a flight simulator due to screen resolution has never played a game on the XBox that is out now on a high definition monitor/tv. With the few games out now that support "lower" resolutions on a HD capable tv, there is no problem whatsoever. There are virtually no jaggies, and fine print is quite easy to read. So enough with the "it can't be done because of screen resolution".As far as a good "gamepad" with enough buttons? I use very few buttons as it is now. Besides that, have you ever counted the buttons that are on an XBox controller? Not only that, have you not played a XBox game w/voice recognition yet? Rogue Spy and Tom Clancy's Rainbow series all have voice recognition and it works exceptionally well. Can you imagine voice commands for the landing gear, flaps, reverse thrusters, landing lights, etc.? (which btw would eliminate the need for a lot of buttons). And how about ATC w/ voice recognition. All of these are possible right now w/ the present XBox. Add to all this that you'll be able to basically hook up any PC with the XBox 360 and there are no problems whatsoever. The only people that might be afraid of this are those who make money off of Microsoft through MFS. But even here the possibilities are amazing. In the Official XBox Magazine last month they wrote about the new LIVE! online format coming for XBox 360. They wrote about how you'll be able to make a car for whatever racing game there is and put it up for sale on XBox LIVE! Could you imagine having a user base of several million who could purchase and download an aircraft you made with but a click of a few buttons! I'm tellin y'all...it's absolutely possible and amazing! And no more rip off artists who make a plane or something that is absolute trash what w/MS's policies. You can tell I'm excited. Programming for a system where the programmers know exactly what the limits are and push those limits always yields a better product than developing a sim that has to be watered down due to the majority not being able to afford top end computers.I say "bring it on Microsoft! Yeah baby!"

Yeah, what happens if Flightsim X on the X-Box 360 kicks any Flightsim PCs butt currently available. For those that have to have the best and most realistic flight sim, This could change everything!

(I am a beta tester for Microsoft.) There may be some small development internally but no beta has started yet.-Dan

FS on big HDTV, WOW... :-eek Hmm.. If someone will provide flight controllers for XBOX, if addons will be as widely available as they are now, then I'm all for it.I'm sure that sooner or later we'll see FS on console, with yokes, joysticks, etc. It's just a matter of time. But I'm also sure that MS will release FS10 for PC.

Would this be a console platform flight simulator game, using aircraft, scenery and flight dynamics created only by Microsoft? If so, they would need to improve their previous creative efforts by several orders of magnitude to interest me in such a game. But who am I to judge? I don
