Hey,

I was looking at getting the 777 and Freighter expansion once they're working with FSX:SE. However I read somewhere (either Steam forums) that you only allow your customers to download the installer once and if that is then lost they have to pay full price again. Can you confirm or deny this as I really want to get the 777 but if I can't download my purchases again then I'll have to give it a miss.

Hi,

First please sign your posts with full names, is a mandatory rule on the PMDG's forum.

Regarding the logic, when you buy an addon, your link is valid for one year. Then if you loose your installer and want another one from PMDG, then you have to submit a ticket and request the extended download service which is at approximately 10% of the price of the addon and is valid for another year.

The best advise is to back up your installer once you have downloaded it but at no time you will have to pay the full price to get another link.

Thanks for the reply, sorry about the signature I thought that was just for customers posting in the support forum, I have fixed that now.

That sounds fine to me, just previously I had spent quite a bit of money on some train sim addons from a certain company (that have now ceased trading), lost them all when my backups failed and was then asked to pay full price for all of them again.

Can't wait for FSX:SE support to be added so I can start flying the 777.

It is valid for 5 days.

It costs $5.00,

Cloud, man. I store all my installers in the cloud, with their license keys nearby, if applicable.

A redownload is a question of three clicks.

Yeah, I had 3 drives fail in a month :( Everything is backed up to NAS and OneDrive now.

If you mean PMDG compatibility with FSX Steam edition, i wouldn't think there would be a problem as it stands today. There are lables on Steam, such as SKYRIM or F1 2014 that have literally thousands of third party mods that are installed by merely locating the application root folder (FSX in this case) and i don't see the difference between an add on a/c and a third party mod.

Just my assumptions.

Ok my fault, because here are the instructions written in the email I received for the -300ER expansion:

"Download Instructions for: PMDG 777-300ER Expansion Package for FSX

Download URL (This URL will expire in 365 days):"

But the link is actually expired well before 365 days now... it is no complying with what is written above. (It is not an issue for me as I have already downloaded and backed up the installer but it may lead to confusion for others, if they receive the same email)

I am sure a lot of people have received emails indicating 365 days. I have received them myself. So yes there is confusion caused by these emails. However, I saw a post several months ago by RSR in which he clearly indicated it was 5 days. I am sorry I can't provide a link but I can't find the post right now.

Maybe it is 365 days to download the first time and then 5 days once the installer has been downloaded once? I never paid attention to that but I'm surprised that PMDG would send emails with such a mistake in them!

I think they allowed for an extended download period for the 77W product to accommodate service pack upgrades. Recall that we downloaded the SP installers for the 77L but an entire new 77W installer from our download links. That's just my guess.

Store all your installers inside your google drive folder, dropbox folder, or skydrive folder. Even if you lose your hard drive they will still be there next time you sync.

The PMDG 777 and 737 NGX are currently not working w/ FSX:SE but PMDG is hard at work fixing this problem.

Correct - it was easier to leave the link open (365 days) than it would have been to re-validate everyone who needed the SP, or to push an update another way. This has caused confusion around here (obviously), but the official text in our support email for EDS is the following:

In the event that you need to re-download a product purchased from PMDG's eCommerce system, the following information is important for you to know:

  • PMDG provides seven (7) days of free access to all digitally delivered products via a unique download link.
  • Beyond this period, Extended Download Service must be purchased in order to re-activate a download link.
  • Extended Download Service will give you access to re-download a product for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of purchase.
  • You can purchase Extended Download Service at any time for any product on your account, it does not need to be purchased on the date of the original product purchase.

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for clearing this up.
