February 12, 201511 yr Just wanted to add, to peakprojects post above. Clean install, no add ons. Default flight im getting 70fps. Close to 60fps with everything maxed out. As soon as I lock fps at 60 it drops to 40ish. Any ideas why this might be? If I lock at 60 to match my screen and lower all settings it still will not reach 60fps. If I unlock it then it jumps back to way above. Makes me not want to limit frames if it is killing fps. Obviously this is before any add ons which will lower fps even more. Once orbx and ifly and opus is back on I know it will drop so that is why I want to get it the best I can in its clean state. Regards Chris Lock your fps by a external Limiter. I use MSI Afterburner/Riva Turner Static Server for that.
February 12, 201511 yr Around 22-23fps for me too with the 777 in v2.5. It's a frame hogger, there's no apparent way round that despite playing with AI and scenery settings.
February 13, 201511 yr Would you care to share your settings, With the default Baron I get amazing performance and silky smooth flight with the settings pretty high. I have the new Airbus series and with this aircraft the FPS does drop which I would expect given the complexity, rarely below 40 but I do seem to get some micro stutters. I have played with every setting and tried some config tweaks but I must say I have a clean config at the moment. I have also found it way better to have Vsync in P3D turned off and frames unlimited unlike FSX I believe this is something to do with the fact that P3D doesn't run in a real full screen enviroment. It would certainly explain alot Don't get me wrong the bus is very flyable I wish I could just get it as smooth as FSX with DX10 Richard Hi richard i just got what you told me. i was flying normally and i got some framedrops one shot to 5-6 fps never got that since install 2.5. they might have something with airbus x cause i did a long haul 9 hours with BBS and didnt got nothing.
February 13, 201511 yr OK So I have been testing the Affinity Mask setting using sysinternals, On a flight from EGKK to CYYZ in the Airbus A319 (i5 3570K @ 4.7) With nothing in the config Core 1 is used pretty much 100 %, core 2 around 30 %, core 3 & 4 around 70% Seeing that core 2 was used the least I decided to try a value of 13 in the Affinity Mask (1101 in binary) This gave me Core 1 90 %, core 2 around 5 %, core 3 & 4 around 60% Is there a way to spread the load evenly across all 4 cores ? At the end of the flight my VAS was around 2.5 gig. To be honest it stayed around that value the whole flight. Is this a good number to be at? Still going to carry on testing, it does seem that at the beginning of the flight the sim is less smooth and after a while things tend to get smoother. Has anyone else noticed this? I want to try the PMDG 777 now it has been relesaed to see ow that performs. I also have the Q400 so may try this weekend RIchard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
February 14, 201511 yr Hi Guys, i'm very frustrated. I have a bad peformance in P3d 2.5. I reinstalled my pc yesterday and installed p3d 2.5 today. I only use the pmdg 777 and a319 as addons. Other addons like orbx or rex i have not yet installed But in the default graphic settings i get only 18 fps in the 777 at the default airport. That's scarry. My system: P3D 2.5 Nvidia 770 GTX 4GB with Driver 347.25 and powermanagement mode "maximum power" i5 2500k 16 GB Ram 500 GB SSD Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit I hope someone has an similar system and can report how the peformance is or has some other tipps. Sorry for my bad english. Greetings peakproject I'm amzed your system does not give you more fps. I do not know whether it's the 777 that keeps your setup slow. I have very good results with P3D 2.5 [also 2.4] and the MJC Q400. Reasonably high settings, some addon airports, Traffic 360 Ai flying about and I set my framerates to 25 wich they stay. Like VC10Man says do not stare at those framerates. P3D can run smoothly with 10-20 frames. The framerate counter of the FS-ses never was any good, If you want to measure fps you should have another program check it for you. Your driver is a driver that was messing up Runway/taxiway lights in P3D 2.4 I have 344.75 and it is doing fine with P3d 2.5 My specs: i7 980 at 4.2 GHz 6GB ram; 1TB at 4 HDD's in RAID10 and P3D on a velociraptor of 500GB; W7-64bit; GTX 750ti -2GB Your system should preform better than mine. Do you use affinity mask? For a quad + HT, I think: [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=63 [mine is 6 core + HT = 1023] This should do the trick= 1st core and 1st HT core off, other cores on including HT. - yeah I know some say HT doesn't work; but a PC does not run a sim only it runs a lot more plus many people don't realise what HT does. Did you turn everything up to full? Roadtraffic is a killer, while the ferries at sea are not. Autogen could be turned up since you have 4GB of ram on your graphics card and P3D is processing a lot of autogen on that card these days. You use powermanagement, is it an ASUS-board? Some Anti virus programms can be a killer. Try a freeware like Avast or Avira antivir just to test that. Are there any anoying programs running in the back ground? Well good luck, happy landings. any thing that moves, moves me
February 21, 201511 yr I benefited from upgrading to latest nvidia driver 347.52 and I set the "Power Management" in the nvidia control panel to "Prefer Maximum Performance" I get 25 - 30 FPS inside the VC and anywhere from 45 - 100 FPS outside (Higher FPS when above 10,000 feet) I have no stutters at all (sometimes I guess around EGLL with ORBX scenery)
February 21, 201511 yr I get fps in the teens when in the VC of the PMDG777 but they are much higher in WingView/SpotView. I was concerned with the fps AND the usage of VAS in P3DV2.5 as my VAS droppped dramatically after loading everything. It immediately would drop from over 3GB's to less than 1GB remaining. Yet it appears this is planned and the way Lockheed developers are managing the VAS. I recently flew several flights in the PMDG777 from FSDT KLAXV2 to FlightBeam's KPHX (Los Angeles to Phoenix, AZ). I enabled California Central and California South plus LosAngeles/San Diego HiRes MSE photoscenery. I also enabled HiRes Phoenix and Arizona and Nevada. I enabled ASN w/REX4 clouds, ProATC-X and MyTrafficX too. One of the things I always do for outside views/wingviews is to change the zoom setting to 40 for each view. That really does help. My fps were very fluid. No stuttering, no blurries, and even though the fps were in the teens, they were still great. Here is the latest flight and the last FSUIPC log for my flight which shows exactly my fps usage and VAS: ********* FSUIPC4, Version 4.939 by Pete Dowson *********Reading options from "K:\Prepar3D February 21, 201511 yr Thanks. I'm going to try out your settings also. The Triple 7 looks fantastic in P3d 2.5.
February 22, 201511 yr Wow, Jim, You practically turned off quite a number of eye candies in P3D. I gotta wonder, if some of eye candies are turned up, then what kind of result will you get? February 22, 201511 yr Very interesting however 14 copies of the same message? Did I make 14 copies of this one too? I thought it was just the other topic I had created and I explained what caused that. In any case it was not done on purpose and when one receives a 503 error Server Down message after you hit the 'post' the topic button, you do not want to lose an extremely long post so you hit the F5 button (website refresh button), to see if the server has been brought back up (there was a major snow storm in the area where the server is located). When I finally discovered the server was not down, I corrected the problem by removing all of the duplicate topics. I hope this time the explanation is satisfactory to you. February 22, 201511 yr I don't need the eye-candy as have plenty of it with my current settings. You meant the settings you showed above? Wow, I never thought of turning of HDR etc. but it works for you and there are still good eye candies then I ought to try that. February 22, 201511 yr There seem to be quite a bit of a performance hit with 2.5 notice it as soon as I loaded before adding anything . 2.4 in the most part run very well . Slider settings make little to no difference with complex planes . Using an i5 4670 o/c to 4.0ghz and GeForce 760 now really struggling in complex scenary areas may well have to go back to 2.4 until I can afford a better cpu fell sure the graphics card is fine anyone know whats changed . February 22, 201511 yr Hi Guys, i'm very frustrated. Greetings peakproject You and I have similar PC specs… With that said, my main stuttering issue was due to addon aircraft. I can get 30+ fps and a smooth stutter free experience with default aircraft and max settings, even with FTX Global, Vector and REX. I put in a GTX 970 (from another gaming machine) to replace my GTX 670 and the performance remained the same…bad stutters with payware aircraft and smooth performance with default aircraft. No amount of slider adjustment and tweaks changed the fact that “P3D performs perfect with default aircraft” (with no glass cockpit) and performs horrible with more complicated aircraft. I would imagine that PMDG aircraft would stress P3D into bad performance much like my Carenado SR22 does. So what are devs doing to optimize the performance of payware (more complicated) aircraft within P3D? Does the internal architecture within P3D allow for seamless integration with more complicated aircraft? I am not sure where either side could start with a solution, but I am convinced that no CPU, GPU, cfg, or tweak can overcome the flaw that exists within running complicated aircraft within P3D.
