No 64-bit P3D coming according to Orbxs' John Venema

I'll take the quotes from LM that Ebs has so kindly posted over JV's statements any day.

big boy, (in sales volume) in THAT sandbox

Is he?  I have no idea and I've been trying to acquire exact sales volume numbers from 3rd party vendors for years and years and years -- it's a well kept secret.

John V. is not salaried by LM...and yet...he would be (I'd think) , one of the first persons to roar out, that the P3D franchise is heading 64 bit...

Actually I would say FlyTampa or FSDT or Aerosoft would be the first to roar out in favor of 64bit ... they're the ones currently using the most VAS with their detailed airports ... if I turn on all the options for FT Toronto it'll OOM before I get to see the airport in the A35.  But ... the good news is Aerosoft are claiming they found a new way to do airports reducing VAS and staying FPS friendly ... we shall see.

I would love to see Orbx do XP10 ... but if 64bit P3D is a challenge for Orbx, why do you think they would start with an all new with XP10?

Cheers, Rob.

Sesquashtoo, I read all of your posts in William Shatner's voice :)

Works for me.  And Rob's voice Is that guy from lifestyles of the rich and famous.  Unless he has a better idea, it's all I got.

All good points, Rob.  Truly the whole thread is subjective, due to the fact that LM is not making recent noise, one way or the other....

Cheers,

Oh Ebs...I'd thought you'd smile if I told you that people even think I look very much like William Shatner...just a less bloated version.

"Spock....you are, and shall always be my friend....but as to your funeral...well...er...I did have that prior engagement in Florida lined up....it's business, you understand, er...right?!?"

Speculation is good.  Even though it seems like fuming, it eventually burns away fog.  I welcome as many lame brained and other brained ideas as people can think of.  Sometimes all that memetic variation gets the people that are cranking out the code their missing links.

And that's the never ending story with XP, everything is coming......

The problem is it never does , Austin thinks the 20 aircraft Ai limit is "perfect" (his words)

The ATC was supposed to be getting worked on but there is little evidence of any progress.

If it gets these two things then I may just look at it again but for now it is an incomplete package with little (relative to FSX/P3D) developer support.

Glad you are enjoying it though, that's all that matters in the end.

with world traffic it gets crowded military etc cheers

Truly the whole thread is subjective

Some of it is ... but I know what I know, and that's not subjective.  LM are good people, very good people and I'm glad we've enjoyed this much of an opportunity to experience and share that world ... it's a VERY rare treat  ... and more treats to come ... and no tricks.

Cheers, Rob.

Now you have me nervous.  They're not going away are they? :(

My two cents.......

Like any organization, I suspect the LM development group has to justify their existence to the "bean counters" periodically, possibly this is a yearly event like where I used to work. So what might be very recent bad news within LM, is that the 64-bit project may have been cancelled, or put on indefinite hold. If it has been cancelled, I would expect we will eventually get a post from LM.

Past quotes from LM my not reflect todays reality because corporate dynamics are always in a state of flux.

But boy, I sure hope I am wrong.........

I have never understood the hate that Avsim members have for John V. I guess I missed the Memo or something and most here seem to believe he is nothing more than a self serving liar. Yet and still he makes one statement and we have like 6 pages of discussion on what is normally a slow weekday. Not sure why he gets so much attention if he is as bad as you all seem to think.

Perhaps you could try it again ,

if all would switch to that great platform , we would nt be here talking ,

chk this out

this is what 64 bit can offer

Until the USA is shown the same level of love by either 3rd party or the modding community and a professional PMDG style quality 737 series is released that is not anything below the 600 series then I'll look again.   The OSM data is incomplete for USA.  The landclass is terrible and while I can spend the rest of my life downloading 50 gigs worth of user created MESH it still will not fix the lack of detailed airports (with buildings please) or the horrible inept AI traffic universe... or rather lack of an AI universe.   I like flying at living airports, not sterile flat waste lands set in an imaginary Earth.   The first time I loaded it up and took off from my home field in Dallas I was extremely disappointed.  I couldn't even tell I was in Dallas/Fort Worth.    That immediately turned me off.   If you can look past their plausible world engine and you love GA flying (which I don't care for) and you fly more in Europe than anywhere else, X-Plane is definitely a winner!   I wish FSX/P3D had X-Planes night lighting engine and sloped runways.    X-Plane and P3D/FSX need to marry and have a Sim baby.

Errr ...no??  You lost me on this statement.

Cheers, Rob.

X-Plane and P3D/FSX need to marry and have a Sim baby.

Indeed, the best of both worlds would be great. Can I name her X3D? PreparPlane sounds terrible.

This is from our very own AVSIM. November 2013 with Prepar3D Program Lead Wes Bard.

http://forum.avsim.n...questions-r1819

We’ve put a lot of thought and research into a 64-bit version of Prepar3D. It is in the roadmap, but I can’t promise you when it will be released.

Also November 2013 (Wes Bard)

http://airdailyx.blo...ley-l-bard.html

The 64-bit question is a great one, and it's kind of tied directly into backwards compatibility. When we do go 64-bit, most of the currently compiled add-ons won't work.

November 2014 (Saul P3D Team Forum Moderator)

http://www.prepar3d....her-x64-thread/

Yes, LM is working on 64bit. No information is available for a release scheduled.

the latest statement from Wes Bard Lockheed Martin's staff is dated  November 2023 . That's more than 2 years ago.

Saul is a Moderator (as is Rob?)and I don't believe he is he is a member of Lockheed Martin staff.
