April 14, 201511 yr Rob is really: Bill Gates! No, but I did invest heavily in his company in the early days ... and then later on in Gate's nemesis in the later years ... it's just a matter of timing and understanding what people want vs. what developers deliver. Opportunity was there for the taking (for anyone really) ... so I took it. As far as this drivers go ... probably the worst yet out of nVidia. 1. Basic design errors in the Manage 3D applications ... the combo box is too small for the text. 2. Selecting one item in the ComboBox changes two other unrelated items to bold face? 3. Distance LOD is significantly degraded 4. No runway lights 5. AA seems to be problematic, almost as if FXAA is on, but FXAA isn't on This driver was clearly rushed out the door because of a single 3D game. And it looks like Shield is not living up to expectations as nVidia have decided NOT to disclose sale figures ... and that almost always means sales are not good, because if they were good they would be more than happy to disclose the numbers. And I know from my contact at nVidia that resources have been diverted to shield, so I think we're seeing the results of that with poor driver testing. Anyway, when the grass has turned brown there's no downside to see if the grass is greener on the AMD hill. Worst case if the AMD 390X doesn't pan out, it'll go into my Test PC that I operate a base P3D v2.x from. Cheers, Rob.
April 14, 201511 yr I await your tests. Else, I am still planning on ordering a GTX 980 Ti 6GB (or whatever it will be called).
April 14, 201511 yr This is great Rob - making effort to find an alternative which is a good thing for all - good luck Rob - maybe nvidia might wake up Rich Sennett

Seriously, you do us all a tremendous service with your tech posts...and it sure helps when the coin is being counted towards this hobby. I will certainly be interested in what you find out...as we all will. Mitch
April 14, 201511 yr maybe nvidia might wake up 1 million sales in 2 weeks will wake nVidia up ... although these days it's looking more like 2-5 Million sales in 2 weeks as game supported profiles seem to be ONLY the major titles now ... but there again I guess having poor/broken PC drivers might actually help nVidia sell more Shield devices ... maybe? :0 Cheers, Rob.
April 14, 201511 yr "No runway lights" is that in FSX or just Prepar3D ? Cheers 3080rtx on a i7 12700k with 32 Gig ddr5. 2gig Ssd Quest 2 Windows 11
April 15, 201511 yr "No runway lights" is that in FSX or just Prepar3D ? Cheers In the FSX boxed edition the runway lights all seem to be there. gb. YSSY. April 17, 201511 yr Haven't really been paying attention in the last couple of days. As far as this drivers go ... probably the worst yet out of nVidia. That's unfortunate, when I seen Sli mentioned in the Overview of the Driver I thought at least it would give PD3 a little boast in some areas. Seriously, you do us all a tremendous service with your tech posts...and it sure helps when the coin is being counted towards this hobby. I will certainly be interested in what you find out...as we all will. Yes Rob you do, always worth reading your posts.
April 17, 201511 yr Yes Rob you do, always worth reading your posts. More than 2 cents? hehe ... I think SLI (in my case) would help let me run Terrain Shadows which is currently the only setting that seems to cause stutters in certain regions. But technology marches on, maybe some day we'll not need SLi or Crossfire as single GPUs still seem to not be at their limits yet. Cheers, Rob.
April 17, 201511 yr maybe some day we'll not need SLi or Crossfire and 640k ought to be enough for anyone... Careful Rob! Neil Andrews. Fight or Flight - YouTube | Twitter
April 17, 201511 yr and 640k ought to be enough for anyone... Careful Rob! I chose my words carefully ... SLI/Crossfire is a currently the hammer approach to processing graphics functions. It will evolve and I'd be very surprised if 10 years from now the terms SLI/Crossfire are still used ... my reference was not because "it's enough" (it's never enough), but more about the SLI/Crossfire limits architecturally ... it's is going to have to change to move up to that next step. Cheers, Rob.
