small info after windows 10 upgrade from W7

Featured Replies

It took me a hole day to upgrade to windows 10 mainly because i did not have the luxus of been giving an update from the bar.

So after a lot of trial and error including a very rare ORBX TODO file error that blocked the installation i am finally here with an upgrade.

Now there seems to be alot going on in background processes and so far i cant tell which to turn of but i do still have the rightclick mouse issue and the menu SLI issue with latest drivers 353.62

Also it seems like the network is somehow blocked to server ASN so i have to dig into that.

About FPS its the same but it do feel very smooth panning around.

Why would you upgrade to w10? Currently nothing is supported, most importantly P3D is NOT supported. Just because it doesn't crash when you start it does not mean that all is ok. Obviously ASN and others will have issues and may or not work. Considering that the next update from P3D may very well not run at all in w10, imho you are just asking for trouble.

I think everything after windows 7 is a downgrade, frankly.

Interesting answers. You might be right here.

Got ASN and network up and running as well

Latest update shows an 10% increase in SLI configuration vs W7 but still with the known issues.

Don't get me wrong Michael - W10 may turn out to be a great OS but with no guarantee of compatibility from LM and/or other major developers - it might be fun to run a side by side setup so you can still fly if the w10 platform tanks in P3D, etc.

I gave up trying to migrate, at my home / simming rig...

Spent a few hours trying again, but the same error log messages are always issued ( language incompatibility between my win 7 ( ENG ) and the win 10 upgrade ??? ).

A totally gave up upgrading, although there was always an alternative - installing my copy of win 8, performing a clean install, and then migrating to win 10 from there, when prompted...

But, all of the burden of having to port my P3Dv2 flawless install, ASN, PFPX... No... I'm just good as I am right now :-)

Just FYI, I too had that file blocking my upgrade (it stops the profile being copied to the new location). I deleted it and it upgraded fine in the end luckily...

I must admit having PC for 15 years and never have i had this positive experience so far upgrading a OS. So far everything works out for me including Project Cars GTAV and Trains S 2015. With steam. I also had to move my steamfolder to another drive because my ssd was close to full but no issues so far at least.

The performance is better. I cant explain it other than the smoothneth feels better.

I have everything enabled for now including Windows defender etc etc but will wait a bit disabling anything.

For the record i updated everything possible in Windows 7 first.

Why so pessimistic ? It is a known fact that MS messes 1 of 2 Windows :

I just did the move to W10 (these days you find W7 keys for 20$ which qualifies you for free W10 upgrade)

Everything is perfectly working as of now.

After all...

I just migrated, and am very satisfied....

Had to install Win 8 Pro, and from there migrate to Win 10 Pro.

ASN, P3Dv2.5, PSX all working like a charm!

I too tried upgrading to Win 10 and part from an issue with my Saitek TQ I too can confirm everything is working really good!

Looking at the performance and overall smoothness I find Win 10 clearly better vs Win 7 running the exact same settings.

I still have a Win 7 system image and my plan was to just give Win 10 a quick spin but after having experienced how smooth it is vs Win 7 I think I'll do a clean install of Win10 despite all the work reinstalling P3D including all my addons and stay with Win10. Wouldn't feel fun going back to Win 7 now that I know how good it is in Win 10.

As for LM and looking at future versions of P3D I would be very surprised if they don't make sure it will run fine on a Win 10 computer. Like it or not Win10 is now the most current OS from MS and as far as I'm concerned I think it will turn out to be a very good one.
