The developers know about this; they also know about the broken roll, clouds and weather (not to mention ATC). It just isn't a priority for them. If you want something that badly, why not send in a feature request? He likes to stir the pot and then sit back and watch the drama ! August 26, 201510 yr Author Guys... This is deteriorating into X-Plane vs FSX/P3D - we've had enough of that. It's not my place to say it but we should stick to the topic - the 'Pros and Cons of X-Plane', not 'X-Plane vs FSX'. There is no necessity to compare it to other sims when it would make do to gauge X-Plane only, all by itself plus its various add-ons. +1 Hello pilots, I'm just going ahead and order XPX for $29 from Amazon. Bite the bullet as they say!! I have read so many intresting replys from you guys, it just seems like the right thing to do. Like you say, it does not hurt to have two sims. I do won't to learn all I can about XPX and with your help I know I'll be in good hands. The scenery is what really sold me on XPX. Regards Lamar Wright

Remember to read the X-Plane 10 Desktop Manual beforehand - it was updated for 10.40 which is yet to be released, and contains several new features. Here's hoping you enjoy your new sim. If you're getting the DVD version, make a digital rip (.ISO) of DVD1 and keep it aside for quick mounting (use this tool from M$ to mount the ISO if you are using anything older than Windows 8) instead of having to use the physical disc every time. This would prevent physical wear and tear on your DVD drive, as well as the disc itself.

It may be unimportant and irrelevant to you, but you are not the OP and I am not writing to you. The developers have known about all of this for about 3 versions now and they don't need the million and first feature request on this. JSkorna has never been interested at all in X-Plane So you really DO want my screen shots of my XP folder. The OP has made his decision and I wish him the best of luck!!
August 26, 201510 yr A definite con for me is the lack or oculus rift support that they did talk about some time ago. The other popular flight sims (three others anyway) have got some form of oculus rift support and it works very well. For a while xplane was the only civ sim I was using and I wasnt using it a lot because I am a convert to VR. Since the other sims have it I have not been on xplane much at all. I wish they would look at it again.

Due to that, X-Plane has to rely on the only cross-platform graphics library that's widely used: OpenGL. Oculus have not mentioned anything about OGL support and they have been focusing on DirectX mostly, which is a Windows-exclusive graphics library. The dev blog has several posts about this.

I do remember something like that, unfortunately for me that makes it a long term con that wont have me flying in xplane :( I have had it for a few years now but I do everything in VR and flight sims are so suited to it.
August 26, 201510 yr Where can I get that scenery? Also the rain on windscreen effect,,,is that xplane or Corenado? You can find the scenery here. The guy who made it is making SCEL next. The rain effect is Carenado's, but many other payware aircraft also have a rain effect. For you, Henry, and anyone else starting X-Plane, I recommend to look at this thread for some freeware addon advice. Finally, make an account at X-plane.org as that is where most addons are hosted. P.s Almost forgot, welcome to X-Plane.

I wish they would look at it again. In the twitch launch stream of the 732, Phillip Münzel talked abit about this. The short story is, Occulus Rift OpenGL support is a big hot mess and that is nicely put. Three times they completely reworked the compability with every new release from occulus before the last release broke everything. So atm they are waiting what direction the OpenGl Support is going aswell as what other 3D Technologies manage to establish themselves on the market. You can find the scenery here. However Phillip mentioned that x-plane mobile has a particle system in place and that it will eventually be ported to desktop. So in the future we probably have much more possiblities.
August 26, 201510 yr [Another Con Example] Yet another feature I would really like to have would be the chance to design aircraft with asymmetric lifting surfaces. Being a more flexible platform in terms of object design, it would be great to be able to model such things as an aircraft with one of it's wings bigger than the other, or with a different shape. Recently, as a consequence of having shifted my attention to combat flightsims like DCS and IL2 BoS, I was positively surprised by details like the recently released C.200 Machi for IL2 BoS having, just like it's RW counterpart, the left wing a few centimeters longer than it's right wing, as an ingenious solution to counter some of the torque from it's powerful engine. Things like this, or other asymmetries in the design aren't possible in X-Plane. ( I completely forgot about the chance to define "misc wings".... - Thx Murmur ! ) [Another Pro Example] Murmur has identified in one of it's posts at the .ORG the modeling of such details like the asymmetric propwash over the downwind wing of an aircraft, particularly if stopped or starting it's takeoff run, when under strong crosswind situations, something that is modeled in a rather peculiar way in DCS ( I find it overdone in that sim ), and looks better modeled ( to me ) in X-Plane. [Yet Another Pro Example] The modeling of many variants of air and space craft, not only fixed and rotary wings. And in particular the modeling of rotary wings, that when well designed, and albeit some problems created by XP10, are far superior in their aerodynamic modeling than whatever you can get for FSX / P3D, unless an external flight dynamics model is used ( and yes, I have used all variants from Hovercontrol, and the DODOSIM creations too... ). [Yet Another Con Example] To alternate :-) here's something I really do not like in X-Plane 10, and that is the way "virtual" control forces can be modeled, or simply not modeled at all. Most aircraft ( without sophisticated FBW systems ) present to their pilots increasing levels of force required to move their controls as dynamic pressure / G increase. In X-Plane, unless you're using a FF controller which I never owned, you will have full authority over your control axis no matter what dynamic pressure or Gs are being exerted. There is a possibility of modeling control efficiency based on limiting the max available deflection, acting more as protection system than as a model for control stiffness. Now, being the focus of X-Plane primarily in the flight dynamics, aspects like this should, IMO, be modeled, and even FSX / P3D offer more plausible workarounds. It's been possible from ages thanks to the "misc wings" feature (with control surfaces if needed): I don't know FSX enough to know if and how it's possible to model such a feature, though.
