What laptop model and specs do you have?

Clevo W230SS, Intel i7-4710MQ, GTX 860M 2GB VRAM, 8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz RAM and a 1080p 13.3" screen. The website says W230SD and 960M, but there's no difference between the S and D except the GPU (and even the GPU is the same GM107 chip, just different clock rates).

My GPU is overclocked both on the core and memory, and over-volted as well. A very powerful laptop for its small size and weight.

Wow you should not OC the CPU/GPU on a laptop.

How much does this model cost ?

When I bought the Lenovo Flex 2 a few months back my biggest blunder was not checking the GPU / RAM. The laptop is good but bad HDD / Battery / Touchpad

The GPU stays consistently at 70 degrees C even at full load and never crashes, so I don't see why not. I also get a 10% boost in performance for free, so even better.

Depends on the reseller (usually XoticPC in the U.S., look for the "Sager NP7339"). I got mine for S$2200, but it's significantly cheaper now.

No HDR here, my 512MB VRAM just will not support it.  Besides, I can't stand the engine exhaust effects with HDR, but I do like RTH effects.

Without HDR my xplane starts to stutter and become a slideshow with 4k

Yes on all the time.  Way too good to not use at night especially.

Since my 980Ti virtually shrugs off anything I throw at it, yes, I have it on all the time.  I love the atmospheric scattering during the day, and the lighting effects at night.  I've played with turning it on and off, and once you get used to it, everything just seems too flat with it off.

BTW does anyone know how to make the 2d cockpit fit on the screen ? I tried using gimp and reduced the panel to 1024 but I still get this huge pit which is not fitting so i need to use the arrow keys to move around which is not great at all.

X-plane really does tend to stick the cockpit right up in your face.

That ain't the default 747 , it is the SSG 747-8 with a 2d pit.

The default one is the 747-4 and it got a 3d pit.

I've found panels in general in X-plane tend to eat up some serious screen-space. Even the 3d ones.

Me too Devon.  It's probably a "perspective" issue. I usually set my field of view to 80º, but never get the same feel / perspective I get in the great majority of 3d cockpits in P3D.

For me the best example of a great perspective simulation among all sims I have used is that of IL2 Battle of Stalingrad. Those guys really captured it in perfection, inside and to the outside of the cockpit, IMO.

Absolutely! It adds so much to the immersive look in XPX! And the night lighting is simply breathtaking with HDR enabled.

I really find it's a plane by plane thing.  I'm using a 32" monitor at 2560x1440, and some aircraft it's very easy to find a comfortable FOV, but in others it never feels right.  However, that's not specific to aircraft in XP10; I've been setting up and getting a feel for the A2A Comanche in FSX, and I've yet to find a comfortable zoom/position.
