No xp-11 until 2017 - Stephen Dutton

Recommended Posts

One of the reasons why I decided to go X-Plane 10 again, and actually adopting it as my only sim together with Aerowinx PSX !

I knew for quite a while that the time horizon was around 2017. This supported even more my decision because, among other factors, namely those pertaining to the many updates that 10.40 and some previous versions have brought, it proves the developers are not trying to rush things into yet another new version of the sim, and making as spend money again on it...

This way we can continue enriching the hangar and World and skies of our preferred sim, developers can have more stability, and we can expect a few more updates until the last version is released, which is added value.

For me, and since the day I emailed Austin with some questions to help deciding to buy or not the download version, X-Plane 10 became the right choice, even if I had just spent my money on P3Dv2 one month before, and enjoyed it - I really did and it's a great platform too, but I see a wider and more tempting future, at least for my kind of simming, in XP10!

Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Lenovo TB310FU 9,5" Tablet for Navigraph and some available external FMCs or AVITABs

In other words the features noted on the X-Plane10 release will all have to be completed to the standard required before there is any chance of a new X-Plane version serial change and that will still have to include the ATC and Weather (clouds) that are still in need of more development to achieve the original set goals of X-Plane10. So a few more Beta X-Plane versions are still going to be required to meet those goals, but I always noted that X-Plane10 will be a long development phase anyway, so I still doubt any new X-Plane serial version before at least  2017.

In a private email exchange, Ben Supnik stated that they "are not going to change or tune the clouds at this time."

I don't know if he was referring to the whole v10 run or not, though.

However, the statement that there will be no X-Plane 11 before 2017, seems to be only a personal speculation of Stephen Dutton?

While there is a V3 speculation thread in the P3D forum , we need to catch up and have one about Xplane 11 :-)

The headline can mislead people , it's only a speculation , nothing actually confirmed , and LR don't talk about a new major version for now (they are clearly working on it though...)

If the stuff they talked about in flightsimcon and some other interviews will be in Xplane 11 (new UI , Physically Based rendering , tesselation and more) , this IMO will be a winner.

So, to add to speculation, mine is: procedural seasons + weather for scenery textures, some revisions to the weather engine, and a Q4 2016 initial release.

+1 - I guess that's probably the schedule Murmur !

LOL

But the things I mentioned aren't a bunch of speculations , it's rather things that LR talked about and they are at lest on the radar or maybe already in the coding phase , some of them in the x-plane developer blog.

Physically Based Rednering was mentioned by Ben Supnik in the flighsimcon and more than a year ago here: http://developer.x-plane.com/2014/05/physics-and-magic/

Tesselation is also something mentioned in many posts in the blog , they actually prepared some stuff for it (like a seperate raw files with DSFs)

And the new UI austin himself talked about it in the flighsimcon , it's already in the works (and some of the modern code for it already exists in the mobile version)

You're right mtaxp.

I also hope all default aircrafts will have decent virtual cockpits (like some of the defaults now).

At the time of v10.00 release, IMHO they would have made a better impression with just the few quality default aircrafts, rather than the same few quality + the lot of mediocre (no VC) ones. Customers are almost never rational entities.

Out of that whole article, the part that got my attention was the mention of being able to switch art assets based on a dataref.

(Okay, lots of other things got my attention...)

But seriously, that opens up some pretty cool doors for designing scenery.  I have already implemented dataref based pilot activated lighting in my current project, now I can imagine seasonal vegetation and ground textures too...

Well I think several statements that Philipp and Ben made clearly seem to indicate that some changes will not be as deep in X-Plane 10 as they expect.

The weather for X-Plane 10 as well as seasons seem to be pretty much done for X-Plane 10. Improvements in these areas will happen by third party products , not by Laminar. ATC will get some bug fixes but nothiung major since IVAO, VATSIM and PilotEdge are better solutions.

SWo some of the main features for X-Plane 11 will be: Use tessellation instead of UHD Sceneries, weather with the help of shaders. Weather improvements. Some GUI improvements like the particle engine might still happen in X-Plane 10, as well as improvemnts in the autogen.
