Biggest RC Jet In The World?

Featured Replies

I just don't know........

These things look like an absolutely enormous investment in time, passion and money.

I might be afraid to fly it, because if it crashed I might just burst into tears!

But is it really the biggest?

I wonder if Virgin paid them any money for it....good advertising

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

By the way, those are real jet engines. There was an article about this jumbo jet in one of my RC magazines. Which would you rather do, fly RC aircraft or flight sims, maybe both as I do.

I was thinking about that before I posted, and decided that they are probably fairly separate audiences. I'm not sure how the PMDG experience (for a theoretical instance since I don't use their stuff) would translate to interest for an RC flight. The skill sets seem entirely different.

And, honestly ( great for me because I would be ruined if I got into RC as I do into flightsimming ... ) I never feel that no matter how scale and big these models are, they always fly with such a non proportional speed and inertia that they simply feel and look like toys...

The indoor electric flight can sometimes provide more realistic balance between the real thing and the model, at least in as far as relative speeds go...

I flew rc for over 35 years and have flown bigger rc planes than that jet. I am now older and fly only on the pc which saves me a ton of money, time and when I crash I can just start all over again rather than picking up the pieces out of a field somewhere.

Buddy you obviously have never flown a large heavy rc aircraft. Those electric toys do not compare in any way to the thrill of flying a 250 pound C-47 or a 75 pound B-17. The larger RC aircraft do fly scale speeds and mimic the real thing good enough for Hollywood films such as "The Aviator" that used large scale rc models for most of the flight sequences.

Well..... there is a way to combine the two hobbies. I was surprised a long while ago when I first encountered Aerofly, and realized that they had a thriving business with an RC aircraft simulator. It was even more surprising when I realized how involved it all was, with companies selling actual RC controllers that could be used with a PC.

One loses the sense of depth, of course, but with the Oculus rift.............. Hmmmmmmmm.............

It's a good thing that's only an "RC Training Simulator" as that pilot can't fly worth a darn! :LMAO:

The biggest RC jet, as far a recreational RC would most likely be this Qantas 747 or one similar (I know there is a 380 and "was" a B52 out there as well).

But technically, RC, as in "Remote Controlled"..the biggest was probably an actual Boeing 707 (or it may have been a 720, can't recall) Nasa used to crash-test a new fuel additive that was supposed to minimize the fireball and subsequent flames after a survivable crash....it failed miserably.  I'm sure we've all seen the footage.

I wonder if John T would ever consider converting his personal 707 to RC to fly around the local field? :LMAO:

I wouldn't classify real aircraft flown remotely or drones as RC as the difference is one is a hobby funded by ones personal funds and the other is developed by government engineers and funded by government money, big difference.

I would consider this an "RC Class" that are scale models etc, flown as a hobby with blood sweat and tears

This behemoth weighed 400 Pounds.

And as you can see, crashed into a tree.
