God........X Plane is so ahead of its time and sooooo much better than the rest

Trees trees trees..

I love X-Plane for everything it is... except for those ugly trees.

When X-Plane gets FSX style trees, then it will truly be king.  But for something so important to terrain realism, I cannot understand the lack of resources being put into realistic trees.

Ironically however, I think P3D V3 has actually brought more people to X-Plane.  The thought is, verison 3, basically a few bug fixes and some extra FPS.. and a dude you can walk around??? That's it, and it took a whole version update and that's it?

So it appears P3D is showing FSX's age.  This is the time for X-Plane to take the helm and begin to address these little issues that have turned people off.. specifically... trees.

P3D v3 did it for me. I refused to pay more for bug fixes. At the time, I was about 60% XP (for night) and 40% P3D for (daytime) flying.

But now I am 100% XP...the extended DSF and NI settings to really bring great Anti Aliasing effects in the daytime opened XP up for me.

That was a major usage investment of time, for me as well.  It made all the difference, from there, I was mesmerized, for it looked that good straight out to where sky meets land....that defining horizon.  Throw in Ultra Mesh v3.0...and done, like dinner....

I fly P3D V3 for my PMDG and ORBX fix. But there's something about the GNS430 in a Carenado aircraft on the PilotEdge network that keeps me coming back to XP10. It's so immersive. Props to the XP10 devs who did a massive upgrade on the GPS. It's so functional now for IFR flight!

I use a plug in called X-Camera, I use the hat switch and can program many views with it, and it is donation-ware

Thanks (I'd been trying to use a plugin on xplane.org with bad results). I installed X-Camera and got the hatswitch to do what I want it to, and now I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy XP once and for all. Just one thing: does it usually go on sale on steam around this time or would I need to wait until the christmas sale?

since were right around Black friday i would wait to see if it goes on sale. hopefully it will.

One thing you need to remember about the steam edition of xplane is that you can not opt in for the betas. If you want to test betas make sure to either buy the dvds(which i don't recommend) or buy digital xplane from the website.

most people are ok with waiting for the betas to go final but some people like to opt for betas. this was just an FYI

Not to get into "us versus them" but X-plane needs Active Sky to finish development and a high quality add-on GPS like Flight 1. That being said; those two things and finding groups to do multi with just might get me out of FSX altogether...

IMO, ASN or something like ASN and PMDG is all X-Plane needs to be the best sim out there bar none!  It really won't be a contest any longer once that happens.

Well, FS Global Real Weather runs with X-Plane 10.41 .

And it does a pretty good job, especially when combined with SkyMaXX Pro V3. But the point is that it is comparatively a "bare bones" weather generator when measured against ASN.

Hi guys

Is there much Australian scenery

Not really. While Australia has now a HD3-Mesh ( http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-mesh-scenery-v3/ ) I think there are at least as many New Zealand airports like there are Australian ones.

New Zealand had the Luck that they were in fact one of the first enhanced HD Sceneries ( http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-new-zealand-pro/ ) which meant  a lot of interest and therefore also a lot of interested scenery developers.

Look here:

http://www.bnasroberts.net/XPScenery/Australia/Entries/2013/9/15_Aussie_Scenery_Packages.html.

The AusPacks along with VOZ create a nice environment to fly in.  Couple that with HD Mesh v3 and the Simheaven w2XP Australia files and Australia is pretty complete.

For individual airports I use this to begin my search.

Sadly, I don't think any weather injector is going to change things significantly enough.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore ASN, and I'd love the great team at HiFi to take a stab at bringing it into the XP world.  But in my opinion, it's still going to hit the same limitations regarding layers, cloud draw distance and the heavy load that a lot of clouds put on XP.  I think a lot needs to happen in the core sim before we see any sort of drastic improvement.

If any thing, I fear a port of ASN would lead to a lot of disillusionment, since so many would see how great it is in FSX/P3D, and expect the exact same depiction in XP.

Milviz Person.

X-Plane 10 has come a long way, but it can certainly improve and I believe that it will.

I'd like to see:

1) Payware GA airplanes with the "Realair" or "Milviz" touch. The payware planes I've bought so far, do not cut it for me.

2) An ATC system that allows communication while in VFR ops.

3) Some working AI traffic at all airports.

4) A good weather engine. FS Global could be the one.

5) Seasons.

6) More cities like SFO by MisterX.

7) A user friendly GNS 430/530 unit or F1 GTN 750. The gns units are good, but not as user friendly as my rxp units.

IMO, X-Plane 10 is an excellent simulator with a great community that is passionate about simming. I'm glad that I'm a part of it.
