November 18, 201510 yr This is a very subjective question. For me having no more instant weather changes was worth the price tag alone. If the question was, is the weather injection so much better than NOAA that it is worth the price ? I don't know. However I see it also as an investment in future functions. Atm having a smooth weather transition is enough for me to warrant the price but like i said for some this might not be enough. Thanks for the feedback, I just received an email from the developer stating "No Trial Period" which if you ask me is a mistake. Their product is one of the higher priced addons and there should be an option to "Try before you buy" Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |

November 18, 201510 yr I am sure I read on these forums that somebody got a 3 day trial period recently? It was here, Not anymore ! November 18, 201510 yr Author It was here, Not anymore ! It's very possible that because I knew very little about the add-on and have not bought it yet, he might think that he wasted his time. In his e-mail to me he did state that they normally do not do this. I must be special. I still might buy it bacause Stephan provided me with excellent support, I got FSGRW working, it's the only payware weather generator for XP 10, it worked perfectly in FSX. I found out that it was the plane that was causing CTDs in XP10 and not the weather add-ons. I'm still giving it serious consideration. Here's my e-mail exchange, starting with his last e-mail. _______________________________________________________________________________ When you check the METAR history of KPDX via the NOAA link, http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/metars?station_ids=KPDX&std_trans=standard&chk_m etars=on&hoursStr=past+24+hours&submitmet=Submit you will find, that there are no METAR reports between 1853Z and 2253Z KPDX 122353Z 10008KT 9SM -RA OVC045 09/07 A3022 RMK AO2 SLP232 P0000 60001 T00890072 10089 20067 56027 KPDX 122253Z 12007KT 10SM -RA OVC050 08/07 A3024 RMK AO2 SLP239 P0001 T00830067 KPDX 121853Z 15006KT 10SM FEW008 SCT029 OVC085 07/06 A3035 RMK AO2 SLP275 T00670056 KPDX 121825Z 17006KT 10SM FEW008 SCT029 OVC085 07/06 A3035 RMK AO2 T00670056 You also see, that the weather gets worse during this time. FSGRW uses NOAA data for wx generation. FSGRW we uses the latest available data. ARound 2100Z the latest wx report was from 1853Z, showing good weather. In fact all wx programs use NOAA data, even the XP built in wx feature uses NOAA data. No other wx program would have been able to predict the deterioration of wx at this location. All would have shown this metar. Next issue is XP issue. XP uses only three cloud layers. It can not render better at this stage. So it may miss cloud layers, because they are at altitides, it does not consider. That is an XP issue we are trying to solve with Austin. Just compare with FSX and you will notice. Cheers! November 22, 201510 yr Just purchased and doesn't seem to do anything as far as changing the weather. Tried a few static conditions (rain/snow) and only get a quick cloud refresh and nothing more.
November 22, 201510 yr and only get a quick cloud refresh and nothing more. It depends. I sometimnes observed up to 5 different cloud layers that it hold, but due to the use of the standard interface, there can only be 3 cloud layers visible at the moment. I never had rain above the highest cloud layer (contrary to the default system) and I often had interpolated weather between several distant airports. Karsten Schubert
November 23, 201510 yr My understanding is that FSGRW does all their weather interpretation in their own servers, this is probably why the initial download is quite large. Due to an XP limitation, you can only be shown 3 cloud layers, this is not an FSGRW limitation, as soon as XP improves in this regard, FSGRW will be able to inject the additional layers. What it does do that no other XP weather engine does, is correctly decode the weather between two stations....it adds correct coriolis effects, front logics, etc whereas the default engine in XP simply gives you metar station to metar station. At present, all weather engines in XP are a little restricted by the limitations of the engine, but FSGRW definitely has more features waiting to be unleashed. Here's hoping for some improvements on XP's side soon. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
November 23, 201510 yr The biggest question that I still have is can FSGRW create weather anywhere close to ASN?? The biggest thing I want to see is weather that doesn't just change all around you but rather instead you see weather in the distance and you fly into it. The default weather engine somewhat does this though nowhere near what ASN can do either of course. I have yet to see proof that FSGRW can do much better than default. How come there aren't many videos or anything? Is this due to XP shortcomings? The 3 layers limit? I'm assuming so. So I'm still failing to see a real solid reason to buy this yet given the limitations in XP. Not trying to negative. Trying to see something that proves it's even worth it given the above? November 24, 201510 yr My understanding is that FSGRW does all their weather interpretation in their own servers, this is probably why the initial download is quite large. Due to an XP limitation, you can only be shown 3 cloud layers, this is not an FSGRW limitation, as soon as XP improves in this regard, FSGRW will be able to inject the additional layers. In fact they don't necessarily need improvements in X-Plane itself. Improvements in the communication with SkyMaxx Pro V3 might be the key. Karsten Schubert
November 24, 201510 yr Is there a plug-in needed to get FSGRW to interface with or certain IP (loopback), etc, because I don't get any noticeable indication that it works. Is it not capable of producing rain on the ground?
November 27, 201510 yr Author For me having no more instant weather changes was worth the price tag alone. What mode are you using? Using the Dynamic mode, I get a few second pause. I'm wondering how to avoid this pause. MSFS
November 27, 201510 yr What mode are you using? Using the Dynamic mode, I get a few second pause. I'm wondering how to avoid this pause. the pause is caused by something different than the instant weather change. Are you using SMP ? Usually this is due to loading times of clouds because drawdistance or other settings are too high for your specs. atleast that is what i found out
November 27, 201510 yr Author the pause is caused by something different than the instant weather change. Are you using SMP ? November 27, 201510 yr Thx. I'm using SkyMaxx v3. I would love to confirm this and use recommended settings. for test purposed put the cloud draw distance down significantly to check if it helps. dont forget that the slider is somwhat misleading, since you draw clouds around you the further you push the slider the more area it has to draw.
November 28, 201510 yr Author At this point, and I could be wrong, but the lack of smooth weather transition translates into a "I regret purchasing this add-on." I'm just used to ASN's smooth transitioning. FSGRW is not even smooth in FSX. I get these flashes. This add-on is like if I just went into the menu and asked XP to download the weather. You get a momentary pause and the new weather appears. In all fairness, I do not know if SMP is causing these pauses. I'll continue to look for answers and I hope I find a solution soon. MSFS
