November 16, 201510 yr You guys could try running DSR, I use MSAA 2X and DSR 4.0X I get no shimmering and very good percentage. If you have W10 you want even notice because it automatically resizes your desktop for you. I forgot about that approach thanks. Is there any negative impact on a 1920x1200 LCD? I assume this is oversampling to a resolution higher than the screen technically supports? November 17, 201510 yr Well I use a cheap AOL LED monitor. It works just fine. The biggest thing is that I can have my sliders low for the graphics card because I don't need that much smoothing since I am using such a big resolution. It makes it look so natural. P3d really benefits greatly from it. I am extremely happy with it. I forgot about that approach thanks. Is there any negative impact on a 1920x1200 LCD? If you have W10 you want even notice because it automatically resizes your desktop for you. Tried this last night, and found that the Windows 10 scaling also scales the P3D window, so the DSR in fact does nothing (other than blurring the image slightly), unless you turn off the font scaling. Haven´t looked into a possible workaround, although there might be one. Did you find a way around this? Best regards,Kristoffer Løkke-Sørensen
November 17, 201510 yr Did you restart after changing the DSR resolution. If you don't want so much smoothing than change the smoothing option to something less like 2.00 times smoothing. November 18, 201510 yr Well, if I went with MSAA 2X and DSR 4X, that would just kill my GPU in the end, and I will still have poor performance with clouds. It seems there is no way of getting better performance with clouds in P3D unless I eat over $200-$300 for a new GPU. I just can't do that for the same clouds that perform fine in FSX. They're just 2D sprites, for goodness sake. Daniel Moser

Then, after a while....... the problem posts begin again, and off we go until the next big thing. It's like groundhogs day: we keep repeating the same timeline repeatedly. Actually it stopped for me as of 2.3. I don't have the patience to mess around to eek out slightly better performance or cope w/ waiting for installers for the next version--just not worth the time anymore for me. I may do V3 but only if and when installers exist for all my add ons. I use QW757 and I think it's out for V3. I'd be most happy to try to wait it out until 64bit and start over collecting add-ons. One reason I say this is that it's really pretty good as it is currently, as in enough to entertain myself...oh, no sorry I mean enough to keep learning new aspects of flying... HiFlyer you are still here after 5409 posts, things can't be that bad. gb. I forgot about that approach thanks. Is there any negative impact on a 1920x1200 LCD? I assume this is oversampling to a resolution higher than the screen technically supports? The oversampling is done in the video card then down-sampled before output to the monitor. The monitor only ever sees it's native resolution, ie 1920x1200 in your case. gb. YSSY. November 19, 201510 yr HiFlyer you are still here after 5409 posts, things can't be that bad. gb. Hope springs eternal, even when experience knows better. The true story is that FSX is deleted from my HD, and FSX-SE is only there because it was $4 on Steam Even FSX-SE is so unused that I finally let another member here into my Steam family plan, because I figured somebody should at least get some use from it. Meanwhile I have zillions of dollars of FSX sceneries that I never use, and have no intentions of ever using anymore because despite the search for something to make this old program better, nothing ever quite works to hide or make me forget the problems for long. If I could, I would give all that software away in a heartbeat to somebody who could/would honestly use and cherish it. So now I toy with X-Plane, and Dream of what Outerra could be, and wonder what Dovetail is up to, and occasionally I comment (probably a bad idea) when I see people who are still on the merry-go-round, buying into the latest thing(s) because they hear it will make it all better. But underneath it all, FSX is still there, and it's old. I think maybe I'm a bit negative, but I want so much a sim that just works. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... November 19, 201510 yr A friend of mine and I have an ongoing discussion. Does contentment breed happiness or complacency? I say happiness. She says complacency. The truth, of course, is that it could be either or both...but perspective makes a difference and I'll give you one guess as to who's generally in a better mood Always looking for just a little bit more or the next big thing is human nature, I guess...or maybe modern culture. There IS an undocumented setting in every flight sim on the market that makes a HUGE difference in the experience. You have to look very hard for it, though. It is called the "expectation" slider. Adjust that to the left a couple of notches and you'll be amazed what a difference it makes. Chris

November 19, 201510 yr Not just flight sim's! Expect perfection and 100% satisfaction with anything you do and you are sure to come up wanting. Not sure of whether 100% satisfaction even enters into it. More like wanting a car that you don't constantly have to be working under the hood of, and that isn't quite so old and dented.
