I love your sky lectures, and sky textures.

Cheers! Thanks! :)

I'm copying this fomr the shader pack readme:

---------------------------------
--- GPUTerrain.fx_alternative ---
---------------------------------
Original version. The same as in my version but with less contrast, means 20% less bright terrain and 20% less dark cloud/terrain shadows + added rayleigh scattering.

Copy the file to ...\Prepar3D v3\ShadersHLSL\... and rename it to GPUTerrain.fx, just remove _alternative. Overwrite the file when asked.

------
Which version you will use depends again on your HDR settings, and monitor calibration, and yes, your personal preference.
If you are using less bright HDR values ingame, you will probably go with this alternative version.
Terrain haze hue color will depend on sky texture. I guess you can get different results with various texture sets from REX, HDE, etc.

Now, you can change cloud/terrain shadows intensity manually. Open GPUTerrain.fx to edit in Notepad:
go to the line 859:

const float3 sunAmbient = cb_mLights[sUN_LIGHT].mAmbient.xyz * 0.5f;//*(-0.1f*Input.Radiosity + 0.9); //GEO

In my version the shadows are more intensive so the number is * 0.1f. The lower the number - more intensive shadows are. In alternative version you can find * 0.5f, less intensive shadows.
If you want even less intensive shadows, just change the number to * 0.6f, * 0.7f or more.

Remember, line 859 is in modified version! In original GPUTerrain.fx it's the line 720.

I tried the V1 Shader pack yesterday and was blown away.    Did a flight to Iceland from the UK and Iceland just looked amazing with the haze and fog on arrival.  Cloud shadowing was perfect for me. Can't wait for your updated shader pack.

Great work to all involved.

Is there any possibility to replicate that amazing scattering using the shaders of the old & venerable FSX? Is there any way to translate these shaders to FSX? Until now I've not seen anything such beautiful and realistic with the ENB or similar.

It would have been nice if we had a script like RealTerraHaze for X-Plane where you in-game can tweak the atmospheric effects.

Great niche for Pe11e to release a little third party UI addon  .  It'll sell like hot cakes. :)

All,

I barely know how to find the Shader files.  LOL  I have never attempted to delete or modify them.

Would someone be so kind as to explain to us non-techno types how to install / set up this "Shader Pack"?

Thanks!

Ron

Thanks, guys.  Following this thread closely - the screenies look very tempting!

These are sky textures I will include in the shader pack V1 SP1. Just tested them and I like them the most (more than REX).
Arranged by time of day (predaw, dawn, postdawn, morning, noon, afternoon, presunset, sunset, postsunset).

All screens are taken with HDR on (Bloom 0), ASN with multiple visibility layers on +VolFog on.

Note that you must set maximum upper visibility in ASN at or above 130sm to get rid of that nasty haze line above the horizon introduced with multiple visibility layers enabled.

Which parameter is for changing the light value of the autogen? I am finding my autogen is too bright in shadowed areas. And sorry if I've missed the reference, despite reading the whole thread.
